  • I completed the Iron butt saddle sore challenge and it was - EASY ! I share with you some of the tips and ideas I used to complete this challenge of 1000 Miles in only 18 hours !! Good rest before the ride, packing my own food , fuel stops planning and proper clothing selection are some of the ideas I talk about in this video. All in all I enjoyed the journey from North New Jersey all the way down south to Daytona Florida on my 1989 Honda Goldwing Gl1500.

Glad you had a safe trip, Sandy. I had a Honda CB750 I bought in 1986 (it was 12 years old then) and rode it for 20 years. Those Hondas last forever. Reliability is fantastic. Smooth, quiet, and comfortable. Ride safe.🙏🏾👍🏾

Thanks for posting your video. I liked the fact that your ride was a classic Goldwing. These bikes, if taken care of, will last a long time. I completed my saddle sore 1000 on a Goldwing as well. It required some effort for sure, despite being on a comfortable motorcycle. All the best.

for hot riding here in ca i pore room temp water down inside my jacket on my clothing. as the water evaporates it pulls away the heat . inna couple-three hrs i am dry. comfortable. ready for many more miles. ( temps here get way over 110 F very low humidity. like below 13%) at sea level up to 1000 feet. but the passes above 8,000 feet are great in the summer-iced over in the winter.

Congratulation on doing your first 1000 miles Iron Butt ride. Back in 2022, I did 3 Iron Butt rides on my 2012 GL1800, one 1600km and two 2000km, in Aug and Sept. It is not everyone that will take the time to ride that far, but it feels so WOW when we do it. I'm off for 2500km (1500miles) Iron Butt this year, but will have to do some smaller rides before trying that.

Started taking 1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar with mothers in it with a 1/2 of glass of water twice a day, now off of meds an no heart burn anymore. 4 yrs heart burn free. I love riding down to Daytona from my place here on the NJ-PA boarder. My mother lives down there and it’s exactly 1004 miles to get down there. I ride there every year for Bike week and I try to go during the summer/early fall if possible. For some reason, this years Bike week ride home was bitterly cold once I got above Virginia. It always is but there was something about it. Even though I’ve ridden in colder temps, it was just miserable. I think I’m getting old. 45 currently.

If you're interested there's an IBA convention that usually takes place around mid-March in Jacksonville, FL. You can log a SS1000 on the way down and they have scheduled SS1000's and BBGold's (1500 miles in 24 hrs).
When I do an Iron Butt ride, I carry all the food and drink I'm going to have on the ride (unless it's multi-day). Nothing burns more time than screwing around at a rest-stop.
I always calculate my average speed AFTER leaving the latest gas stop, to see how I'm tracking to my average speed goal. Let's me know if I have to push the speed a bit or if I've banked some time.
Leaving at 3am is a good practice. Your normal sleep-wake cycle works to your advantage.
    Good job with the ride.

Riding down thru Baltimore-Washington can get ya turned around & Never get on a DC Exit ,,,, you can end up losing everything
you rode in with, including your life? I know b/c I lived in the DC Metro area for 12 yrs(Northern Va.). If I took a trip down the
eastern seaboard I know I'd be planning how to hit each larger city outside their rush hours..... hard to do if you've got to get
1,000 miles in 24 hours but planning around rush hour commuters makes any trip better. IronButt is a new concept for me!
Just heard of it. peace, be safe out there !
