Unless they simply don't need the additional storage space, they should have gone to the OUTSIDE of the containers instead of the inside with the arches of the Quonset roof. That would do TWO major things. 1. Provides additional storage on top of the containers. 2. Puts rain runoff further to the outside and makes for less possibility of rain incursion / puddling on the top of the containers.
That's a great idea.
Smart
Its a trade off but yes, unless I absolutely had to have the floor space, I think I would have put the containers on the inside as well.
Exactly. That's what i would do, go to the outside and raise it a little bit to use the additional storage space like water tanks, fire wood or generators.
Also in high snow load It could keep the container from collapsing.
Yes the container is structurally strong enough when new. However when it gets old and rusty from all the water and snow sitting up there then the structural strength is compromised.
You’re Back! I’ve been missing you Justin. I hope all is well.
Yea, Hi Cuz!
I'm envious, Justin! I need that building!...Great vid, brother!!!
Lol you all are just like my coworkers and I. Its hilarious. Having good people you can get along with working with you makes work so much more enjoyable.
Nice build. Looks like an improved Diesel Creek.
When you said it's up there, all I could do was laugh. I would have went two shipping containers high with the hut on top. Imagine the walkway/loft you could have up there.
Steven…… 🤣🤣🤣👍
So straight… faced and can take a joke, returning them just as well. Good value crew.
SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK BROTHER!!!! And this video was hysterical 😂😂😂
This has to be one of the most beautiful projects I have ever seen. You are a genius and an artist. I can't wait to see the follow-ups on this project.
Thanks! Just so hammers that the second video is up now on the channel.
We build the shipping container apartment.
I thought about doing the same thing but I was gonna bring the roof out to the outside of the containers. That would minimize the rain pooling up on top of the containers and give me a lot more dry storage.
How much would this building cost to complete?
Not sure yet, I will make a video with a total.
Yup that’s what I did with mine, made a big difference. I included mine to the top of containers all the way across. I have two 14x14’ roll up doors on the front. Overhang really helps.
Should say “inclosed”
Looks like a huge project. Going to be nice once it’s done. Might require hearing protection during a hail storm..
He’s alive!!! This build is awesome!
I like your idea but for sunny hot Florida I would move the containers 20ft closer so the arch would cover the containers and I would seal off the back with a 3rd 40' container with another 10' of arches to cover the 3rd container. For desert you could make the center/back container a water cistern tank.
People like you are awesome to present these types of shipping container ideas! Thx4sharing 😊
Thank u for filming this, if u can pls film when u are also putting on the end to end walls, i would like to see the finished product, i know its a lot of effort to film while u are working, it makes good content and educational at the same time too for people like me.
Crown Steel sells quality stuff and all the stuff you need comes with it. Had about 500 extra nuts and bolts. Built mine three years ago.
I have missed out on a lot of your video uploads, due to well due to a lot that I care not to talk about. Just very busy. But glad to see the ALL FAMOUS "MR. STEPHEN COX"! And I say that as a COMPLMENT. Well go back today and get caught up on the videos I have missed. And Mr. Cox's also.
I made up a cradle and added a 30'x40'x16' building like this on the end of my 24'x24' garage for more storage very nice ordered it off Ebay came from Canada
Where have you been! Missed your videos and learning from you
Done same thing 20 yrs ago smaller span and used tin on roof cool
GBU later
Glad to see you back on here! (Stephen too!)
I like it. But.... have you calculated the spreading effect of the weight of that corrugated arch? How about with a snow load? Shipping container aren't very heavy compared to their bulk. It only takes a thousand lb or so to scoot them on smooth concrete. I strongly suggest bolting them to the slab.
Not much snow in Texas
@@dreambuilderkmg Maybe not much snow in Texas but you have viewers all over the country, many in snow states.
But you get wind in Texas too. Bolt it down anyway. You can run but you can't hide from thinking projects thorough where failure hazards human life.
Idk what part of TX they’re in but I’m thinking from the looks of the trees, they’re probably north so away from the windstorm zones, but any wind is going to give that thing a helluva lift. Id be far more concerned about that than scooting containers apart. That roof should load pretty vertical to transfer weight straight down the wall to the foundation. I would have wet set some bigass tie downs in the concrete to tie into the twist locks run up the corners of the containers to try n keep the whole thing from taking off like a bigass parachute. But I’m guessing the manufacturer has some kind of engineering guidance for customers.
I hope you put seals between all pieces, they didn't offer it until after we bought ours. Leaked in so many spots, ended up having tons of issues with company we used including pieces n bolts.
Steel Master is the company you should have gone with.
VMac makes amazing compressors!
Made close to my house…..
You guys are genuine, ha, ha, good skills, good tools especially the ones on wheels. Great engineering, great design, you got my stamp of approval. My experience on some that i built that were similar is that rain and snow blows sideways, so you need to cover anything you dont want to get wet. Sun shade👍
I agree
First time seeing it, Yes! If I build this my neighbor would be calling DEA, FAA, and HOA which is a hangar that is big enough for a small plane. Haha, Go Thu, to see what it looks like in Sept 2022? It's great to have good friends!
It is good to see you and Stephen back Stephen don't hump a dent in it lol
So how much for the roof? Conex containers are no problem but the roof is what interests me
Enjoyed the playful video. Definitely lightens the work load mode😉👍🏽
Always wondering what folks with these do about standing water on the containers. Sure, they are "weather tight" but corrosion will always happen eventually. Might be less of an issue in some places but here in the PNW the rain and moss will come.
Is there any debate to whether the arch goes to the inside edge of the container or the outer edge? Sure would give you some interior horizontal storage and solve the water issue, at the expense of some floor space.
The water issue is a big problem. I will show how to deal with it in an upcoming video, but you are correct. As for the placement of the containers, it's totally up to you. Either configuration will work!
the top of the containers have a slight arch on them to shed water,
Hmm, do I look like Walter White?
You look like Heisenberg to me; but where's the hat?
Hey don’t you have your own channel, riding coat tails as always. 😂 lol
YES 😂
Jugg head??
I seen you putting mayonnaise on the tip of that sausage
Great to see you back, and what a great project.
Nice to see you and Stephen working on something again.
Watch the roof on the shipping containers, seems they start to leak after a certain number of years.
Great crew, very entertaining, thank you
People need to understand more about the containers themselves.. they are made with Cor-Ten steel.. they are designed to last quite some time while being exposed to Salt water spray and rough handling.. where they rust out tends to be where they have existing damage or have been poorly repaired.. this is why you need to pay for the best possible container up front.. in this case, they are grinding through the corrosion protection in order to weld to them.. this is not optimum, but they are mitigating the risk by treating the exposed raw steel. I have seen shipping containers that looked almost new after 30 years of rainwater exposure and constant use inland from the shore..
I probably would have used the base plate and bolted them on but that is just how I like things. 😎
good to see y'all man been missing y'all
Love that purdy yellow engine!!
Randy Andy: "Do you need a gentle Tug? Hey...I say that to everybody! There's nothing wrong with that!!!"
Nice video, i loved the idea. I would like to see the whole thing finished.
Love the hat! I have a dozen of those and I'm from Minnesota. I like their spotted holstein hat the best.
Wow that roof looks really beautiful. Thanks for the video!
Could you build this "cheaper" by using two containers on top of each other and then just straight beams across the gap? Presumably that requires much more material to be stiff enough and that increases weight requiring again more material. Or use of girders. I guess those curved roof panels are a smart thing to use.
I'd also be curious about yellowing of the fiberglass. But since you always have a "mold" you could always make new ones haha.
Shipping Containers are just their side show.
Men, no matter how old we get, our jokes never age.
Very cool project. I’m looking to the rest of the build. Great job guys.
I don't know where this is. But imagining a snow load of 4 or so feet, and opening all four doors of one (or both) containers, would flatten everything.
The doors are the gussets to the whole thing.
Texas..... 1 inch of snow every 20 years.
I think they are in Florida.
Wayne Alan...Im not sure why they didn't do that but Im sure it was nice being able to install all of those panels while standing on top of the Conex instead of a ladder
Justin, you need to do an Acappella version of Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers - What a fool believes... would be hilarious! - Been watching a long time from the corners, great content all around.
Ha! Keep watching, it may happen! Thanks Brother! Glad you are here!
Awesome job.
Great video, Glad that you are back.
Are you going to have The Good of The Land Fest this year?
Wow. That's a huge shop.
Spray on cooking oil works as nozzle gel and it helps keeps spatter from sticking. Way cheaper than nozzle gel.
WD 40 works well also. Always sprayed on the gun when running flux core. Kept nozzle and gun clean.
Are the bolts then tightened up after the fact?
glad to see you making videos
Possibly the 1st time I have seen Americans using grinders with the guards on, mind blown :0)
A nosy question. Whats the rough cost of this project? Ballpark.
Hey Justin, it's great that you're using a respirator but you've got the wrong cartridges loaded into it. The pink disks are only for particulates. You need the bigger plastic ones for all the fumes from welding gallium (galvanized)
Welding that roof to the containers may well create a taxable building for property tax purposes. It might have been better to just build the shed roof and put the containers under it since the containers wouldn't be taxable.
Texoma Tinker
Taxes are going away.
Geweldig gedaan top job ✅ Groetjes uit Holland 👋🏼🌹🌹
Are those golf tees? How many dB do they reduce the noise?
I am so grateful for this video. I am just starting this exact project with the "minor" difference that I am stacking two containers on each end, so my roof will start out at 18'. The total shop hight will be 35'. Also my roof will be going to the outside edge of the container. I'll sent pctures when I'm finished.
If you have any questions shoot me an email at thegoodoftheland22@gmail.com
First time I've ever seen someone wear a respirator to weld outdoors.
Recreating the gateway to the west.
I need to built something like that one day 👍
SUPER IDEA . SUPER POMYSŁ . POZDRAWIAM .
Fulcrum point that is what you're using the bucket like..
Does the roof use weather sealent for each panel also what about every nut and bolt is there some type of sealant that has to be applied or gas getting under every Bolt
Spray anti-spatter is easier to use than dip in my opinion
Reminds me of the time I put together a metal shed for my landlord. All those nuts and bolts made me swear that I'd never do another one. I'll pay someone else or I'm going to build with wood.
Any snow load will push those containers right off the concrete
Won't water run off from that roof run into the shop? If you seal it at the base of the arch it will pool there since the shipping container roof has a slight arch to direct run off from the middle to both sides.
Love your 7.3 vids Stephen
Please recommend diesel creek this video, his shop would love to look like this
Long time no see. lol looks like its going to be a real nice shop!
I could use one of those thanks to hurricane Micheal, I lost 5 barns to it.
Fantastic job guys. We can get the shipping containers in my area but was the roof customer designed just for this build?
Question.....did you tilt your containers so water will run off away from the building?
Why not connect the roof to the outside edge of the containers? Are the containers level or do you have them set at an angle they drain. It looks like lots of water could come down off the roof on to the top of the containers
Yup, you are correct. There is a solution. I will include it in the video when we enclose the shop.
15:56. That’s hate speech !!! 😂😄😅 rockin out to I can’t fight this feeling any longer
Carry on my underwear!!!
Cool beans. I may have to do this.
Eye protection you only get two. Always I've care for two many in emergence who lost one or both doing simple stuff.
Shouldn’t the anchors be mounted to the edge of the con ex boxes where the strength is? Just asking.
NICE ! Any plans for a mezzanine or maybe some of those big multi level pallet racks to use the height in middle for storage ? Will the containers get an EPDM sheet covering the flat roof, or some other covering to shed water so you don't create a mosquito filled shop facility ? Looking forward to more on this build !
You should pay attention when editing to make sure none of the footage is mirrored. A good amount of this video is mirrored.
My question is, why not have the roof extend the full width of the containers?
Think of the extra inside storage on top of the containers.
As for the metal arch roof, im not really impressed with that.
A wood scissor type truss would have advantages in my opinion, and would have had less labor involved as well, not to mention machine time cost.
How do you secure an entire metal building against possible lightning hitting it? Will reg lightning rods even be of any use with so much area to cover?
How is the run off water going to go on top of the containers . ? Great video.
Wow! You just REINVENTED the fuckin wheel!
Nice to be super rich.
Nice Job !!!
What's the thing about music in the background and UA-cam just curious
IF THATS SNOW COUNTRY, WHY DID YOU TAKE THE COVER TO THE 'BACKSIDE' OF THE CONTAINERS?
Steel Master's have a cargo container cover. Prices seem ok but no welding if I remember. Where are you guys located? I'm in SC and would consider hiring you all for two 40' HC Containers build a Steel Masters Cover.
👍👍 3 months from now you have to go back and re tighten all of the nuts. 🙈
Nice, very cool!
Love that truck
I really wish you provided info of the roof. like, cost and availability.
Background music shouldn't matter since it definitely falls under fair use. As long as you are talking over it occasionally it shouldn't matter. Just look at all the reaction videos to music.
ANCHOR YOUR CONEX, SNOW OR ICE WILL PUSH THEM OFF THE SLAB AND COLLAPSE,
