I live in NZ Sometime in the early 2000s I bought a book from a guy who lives in Maine US in the book were 3 kayak plans I build the Guillemot double . Thanks Nick............. Without doubt the most interesting and beautiful thing i have ever made. Doesn't get enough use it the moment, but in the meantime it hangs on The wall in the garage looking beautiful. I have people wanting to buy it , but no way, they really have no idea of the work involved in one of these beautiful boats.
Good choice for the seat......for a rest when glassing the seat you can cut up some of your seat foam into a shape (2 pieces if that is thick enough) and glue together. I use a similar set up when sanding motorcycle fenders and such.
There’s a new cloth that mixes Carbon and Spectra. Spectra comes up optically clear when wetted out. It’s stronger the Kevlar as well. Wonder how that would look as the interior cockpit layer. Could be a cool look to see wood grain and carbon.
I bet it could look great. Part of the appeal of the Carbon/Kevlar is the yellow of the Kevlar. I like the contrast it has with the wood grain. The CF/Spectra hybrid cloth I have seen has the Spectra in the warp and CF if weft. I've used a similar CF/S-Glass hybrid. In that case the glass disappeared, and all you saw was the CF. The space between the CF yarns was not enough to show much wood. As a result it just looked like CF.
Great choice on the seat Nick!

How do you make a seat without a cnc machine?
Does the seat get fixed in place, or is it able to move in the boat?
My current plan is to fix it in place. But I may go for heavy duty velcro.
Do you offer the seat for sale?
yes, contact me directly for pricing.
Laik. :-)
