Warranty voided for many reasons. Incorrect amount of nails, no underlayment, improper stagger of joints. Each course should be stepped like a staircase.
I would say that he is going to cut the stagger later, because that's how a lot of roofers do it. But I really dont think he will. This roof has so much wrong with it, it's baffling.

Lots of homes here in Canada don't have Underlayment installed just 3ft of Ice&Water. I'm more concerned about his poor nail placement. All these guys care about is being fast but to be fast means a quality install is non existent. In my opinion he is a dogshit roofer.
It isn't required in Canada that I know about at least not where I've roofed. The blokes that give a shit 100% cover with an underlay before the shingles though lol.
The problem is the staircase. I will garuntee a roof for lifetime of shingle with no underlayment. Fixed roofs because underlayment traps moisture between plywood and underlayment.

Underpayment is overrated if you do good work, it was designed for bad companies that don’t install according to manufacturer recommendations and this guy is prime example of what not to do. This guys racking architecturel shingles.

That is super correct. The bag the shingles come in spec exactly where the nails go. Most times its 4,5 or 6 nails. I do think there is a storm rated 7 or 8 for these types of shingles. Either way improper placement and bad nail location can cause shingle damaged. Which is why you will find a lot of roofers do it all by hand rather than a nail gun.
Just go to a local hardware store, preferably like Harbor Freight and put a cheap, thin and permanent blue tarp on it from day 1 to keep that wood dry from moisture 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Underlay helps a ton, making sure no nails are in the seams between shingles helps a bit too, but a lot of the roofs I rip (I'm in Canada) tend to have no tar paper or ice and water except on the lower leave. It seems to be OK on straight 2 side roofs but when it comes to chimneys, dormers and walls ice and water and some tar is standard with my company, rarely have callbacks

I'm a roofer and I see no titanium and he's nailing more then 5 nails on those shingles and he hit nails anywhere on the shingles last nail landed on a sheen that roofing will be leaking a lot
@@rein3684 I have a high suspicion you’re not supposed to layer the shingles up and down. It’s supposed to be offset in a stairs pattern. I remember watching some other contractor explaining that installing it this way voids the warranty.. you just turned that 30 year roof into a 7-10 years…. Also no ice and water underlayment on there…. I’m reading in UK or Canada it ain’t needed but if you’re gonna be spending 20-25k on a 30 year roof, it’s probably best you fork over a few hundred more for the extra layer protection

@hotbam37 we call it shot gunning here, it's where you run the shingles straight up the roof instead of using a stair step pattern,it won't leak but you can definitely see it from the ground and doesn't look as good as stair stepped,way more common with 3 tab shingles then architectural shingles

Like my uncle said when he did roofing in the 80s and all the Hispanic crews came in and stole large chunks of business, my uncle said that's when he would make more money because he would get to go and fix the problems they left behind, which usually included a full tear off and redo. Tear off was easier because it was only a few years old.

As a carpenter I see a lot of issues with this roof. First of all no roofing felt to prevent water damage due to a leaking roof. Secondly where are the chalk lines to keep straight shingle placement rows. Third too many nails are used to fasten some of the shingles.

The reason it’s sounds fast it’s cuz the pressure on the gun is rlly high so a slight touch make it go of but the nails will blow through the the shingle and cause a ton of future problems

Like my uncle said when he did roofing in the 80s and all the Hispanic crews came in and stole large chunks of business, my uncle said that's when he would make more money because he would get to go and fix the problems they left behind, which usually included a full tear off and redo. Tear off was easier because it was only a few years old.
I'm pretty sure they need the underlayment that goes before the shingles 😜

Let me guess, you put in 20 nails, just plastering holes in the roof? We get heavy snow and shingles stay up fine without peppering the shlt out of them.
@@skipads5141 You misunderstood my comment First he didn’t install felt or synthetic underlayment next I counted at least 6 nails per shingle. 4 nails is fine unless it’s over 6^12 then 5 nails per shingle

I guess they changed the Windstorm code from 6 nails to 30 per shingle.
As a carpenter I see a lot of issues with this roof. First of all no roofing felt to prevent water damage due to a leaking roof. Secondly where are the chalk lines to keep straight shingle placement rows. Third too many nails are used to fasten some of the shingles.
