We can always pause and replay when we need to, but we can also just sit back, and watch the whole video to get the general idea. The way you zoom in to see the controls as you edit the expressions lets. us focus exactly on what we need to and I also like how you sometimes show just a portion of the controls and the resulting rectangle, so we see how editing values affect the end result. Thank you!!!

Thank-you so much and we appreciate having you here. We're so glad it's been helpful. Chadwick makes great videos. We love his channel. What do you mean by deep compositing?
@@team2films in Nuke there is a camera based depth system known as Deep. It's similar to depth maps, except it works with real world units provided by cameras that capture the depth information from a scene. This allows interaction between CG and real wold elements of a comp far more effectively than with something like a depth map. The modern Planet of the Apes movies are prime examples of Deep compositing.
@@team2filmsDeep compositing is a bit like deep Pixel compositing (which Fusion supports), just more advanced. Only Nuke supports deep compositing. I think they have a patent on it. @@team2films Except it's hard to go slow when you don't include the video to begin with. For example, the Minimum, Maximum, and Actual values, it would have been nice to include a quick shot of the final Control values in the Edit Controls dialogue before cutting to the next subject. I get the idea behind the controls, but it would have been nice to see the values you set for at least one of them.
@@fuzzyLizardStudios Our apologies! We missed that one. I think we used 0-500 for the range and 0-1000 for the allowed. They all have the same settings.
Great video so far! At 4:29 you say "1 to 20" and then "1 to 100", but you type 0 instead of 1 both times. Is that a minor mistake? Or does that mean that the range/allowed values are exclusive of the given numbers?
FOR FREE? GOOD GOD. Nice video. I will give my thoughts after I finished Edit1: I find it hilarious that you aren't using the shapes nodes (sNodes) cause its just so god awful with customizing it. The Edit Controls is a game changer with making custom graphics. the 1 by 1 explanation also helps with math for how many bars you can keep in a frame. So if you make the width .1, then you can get 10 to make up the size of 1. Like if you want to take a certain portion of the screen you can just type in 1/X. It will convert it to the portion of the screen you want to take up. Good god, I do padding manually by using fractions and math. Q: Can't you use the "+" icon to drag in the variable that you are wanting in the expression? This video just showed me how primitive i am with my usage of Davinci
Yes, the plus icon is a pick whip. Shape nodes have their use. In this instance, rectangle was more appropriate. Yes, the relative coordinates system is really awesome once you understand it! So glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful, thanks for watching
It can be whatever you want. Think about the data you will be entering and set minimum and maximum allowable values that are appropriate for the data you are working with. Does that make sense?
Great in depth Tutorial 🤩 Im having an issue with the Expression @ 21.40 ish Have checked the Text Layout Center expression code but cant seem to find an error. The Macro doesnt seem to show the expressions unless i'm missing something?
Thanks so much. It's hard to diagnose your issue with so little information. I'd recommend removing components from the expression, and adding them back in one by one until you work out which expression causes the issue.
I make documentary and short films on Science & Technology in DaVinci Resolve Studio. Node based compositing is very difficult, specially Expressions and Macros. I am familiar with basics of Fusion Nodes and I want to learn advanced fusion compositing like Graph Bar composition. Can you please share the link of tutorials that helps me with advanced Fusion Compositing.
I think we mentioned putting the same values for minimum and maximum that you put for the value tool. Those values are shown on screen when making the value control. Hope that helps.
In the end you like the different nodes via expressions, i want to do the same by using instances, but they dont work as expected. I think davinci is linking "background" controls not visible in the inspector together and therefore instances dont work like expected. Do you know how to fix this or do i have to use expression or do it manually?
Yes, for some reason instances do not work well with macro tools. We'll investigate if there are any solutions. Publishing and connecting was not working properly either. Hence we used expressions.
Hello, sorry you are having problems with that expression. Can you provide any more information on the problem you are having? i.e. what expression you are typing. What problem you are experiencing, etc.
Holy cow! This is like brain surgery… I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. There’s a lot to be learned before we get to his stage. Fusion… Or as I like to call it- confusion is like doing brain surgery. This would be so easy to do an after effects.

Thanks so much. And hey... it might be simpler than you think. It just takes a little time.
Another excellent video -- thanks
Great video, thank you. The math part was a little fast, so I can't wait to be able to download the macro so I can inspect it and learn more. Once again, great job on putting this together. Just wish I could afford your training course.
Thanks so much. The download is now available. If we ever move too fast on something slowing the playback speed can help sometimes. By the way, There’s a January Sale on the course currently.
@ Perfect, thanks
Awesome video!
Great stuff
Thanks for watching.
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
Felt like I was learning coding rather than motion graphics.
Hahah, yeah for sure! It can be like that sometimes.
You've just convinced me to get an Envato subscription and download assets with gratitude. *laughs
Hehehe! Now you know how the sausage gets made!
May I ask which monitor you use? Thank you
In this video, it’s an LG Ultrafine 4K
thanks
You're welcome!
💯❤💫 Thank you,
Thank you!
You bet!
Si pudieran ponerlo en los vídeos más antiguos sería genial hay mucha información muy valiosa para los que hablamos español tendrían más vistas.
Gracias por poner el idioma español esto me emociona mucho….
I would've loved to see how we can add a custom easing to the macro so we don't have to go to the Fusion page to change it.
Oooo, that's a good one. What aspect of the bar are you looking to ease?
@@team2films the length
@@Lokmansouhail Do you mean when the value is changed? And are you talking about a tool that you've made with exposed controls in the edit page?
I have an issue where my text does not fit in the rectangles ^^' Can you add in description the formulas you use ?
You can download the finished tool from our website. You can find the expressions inside the tool. Does that help?
this what we need perfect tutorial in davinci resolve 2025
Happy to hear. Welcome to 2025!
too much efforts thanks
Thanks for liking
God!!!
So glad it has helped.
I wish I could have an elder sister like you who teaches me fusion like this 😭😭
Don't worry, there are plenty more videos to come! Thanks for watching
Great video so far! At 4:29 you say "1 to 20" and then "1 to 100", but you type 0 instead of 1 both times. Is that a minor mistake? Or does that mean that the range/allowed values are exclusive of the given numbers?
Sorry I answered my own question. It's inclusive of 0.
It was a mistake. There’s not point having a graph with 0 rows. 1 is the correct value. Thanks for watching and spotting that.
❤❤
❤️❤️ Back at ya! Thanks for watching.
FOR FREE? GOOD GOD. Nice video. I will give my thoughts after I finished
Edit1:
I find it hilarious that you aren't using the shapes nodes (sNodes) cause its just so god awful with customizing it.
So glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful, thanks for watching
you would make our lives so much easier if you-ll put this macro for sale.
This macro will be available for free soon. There will be a link in the description.
Ah Saoirse's Blackmagic. The crush is real
Thank-you!
What are the Minimum Maximum and Value Constrols configuration???
It can be whatever you want. Think about the data you will be entering and set minimum and maximum allowable values that are appropriate for the data you are working with. Does that make sense?
Hy, I’m following along and fusion won’t let me change the range, allowed and default values under edit controls for some reason 3:03
Hello, sorry you are having problems. It's hard to diagnose without more information though. Have you managed to resolve the issue yet?
Great in depth Tutorial 🤩 Im having an issue with the Expression @ 21.40 ish Have checked the Text Layout Center expression code but cant seem to find an error.
The Macro doesnt seem to show the expressions unless i'm missing something?
Thanks so much. It's hard to diagnose your issue with so little information. I'd recommend removing components from the expression, and adding them back in one by one until you work out which expression causes the issue.
Point(Rectangle1.LeftMargin+Rectangle1.Width-Rectangle1.Height*Rectangle1.Padding*comp:GetPrefs(“Comp.FrameFormat.Height”)/comp:GetPrefs(“Comp.FrameFormat.Width”), Rectangle1.Center.Y)
TEM COMO COLOCAR ESTE VIDEO EM PORTUGUES BRAZIL?
I make documentary and short films on Science & Technology in DaVinci Resolve Studio. Node based compositing is very difficult, specially Expressions and Macros. I am familiar with basics of Fusion Nodes and I want to learn advanced fusion compositing like Graph Bar composition. Can you please share the link of tutorials that helps me with advanced Fusion Compositing.
That’s awesome! Please watch through our fusion videos, you’ll love them! Casey Faris is also excellent. You’ll love him too!
Can we install this preset on ipad dr
No, this preset is made for the Fusion page and the Fusion page is not on the iPad version of DR. Sorry!
I couldn't do the Minimum, Maximum and value controls because I don't know what values to put in the controls Default, Range and Allowed
I think we mentioned putting the same values for minimum and maximum that you put for the value tool. Those values are shown on screen when making the value control. Hope that helps.
@@team2films thanks for the help
() - parentheses
😂🤣 Thats the theme of the video!!!
Hence we used expressions.
mailing list link is broken! :(
Fixed. Thank-you.
When i doing expression in height its not happening why ?? And also all the nodes get deselected ??
Hello, sorry you are having problems with that expression. Can you provide any more information on the problem you are having? i.e. what expression you are typing. What problem you are experiencing, etc.
CASSA MARCELLO
Expressions not working at a time ipad don't know much about it
The iPad version of Resolve currently only supports the Cut and Colour page. Sorry!
Holy cow! This is like brain surgery… I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. There’s a lot to be learned before we get to his stage. Fusion… Or as I like to call it- confusion is like doing brain surgery. This would be so easy to do an after effects.
The process would be fairly similar in After Effects. You'd actually need to do the same thing, create custom controls and then link them using expressions. Thanks for watching.
But after effect is good in this stuff why you don't use it nobody will use fusion to build motion graphic template
Because I would have to pay for AE
After effects is great. So is Fusion. If you are editing in Resolve, you should definitely do your animation in Fusion!
You guys are really doing Gods work! Thanks so much for what you do 🫶🏽✨🥺
Thanks, we appreciate having you here.
