    That machine had a very interesting sounding back up alarm. What makes it so different is that the pitch is lower than you would hear normally on a machine of this type.

      Its the Doppler effect, it is moving away from you so fast that it changes the sound.

    I’ve watched videos of a number of these hydraulic shovel fronts in various sizes, and the cable machines seem to be faster and more powerful. What is your take on this,being deeply imbedded in the industry? Thanks for the videos and take care.

      Boffus Laddie! HI Danny! 80 and 180D's and such or maybe a 95. Nothing like a cable rig against a hydraulic. We were born too early.

    Demag is , for me, the best Deutch excavator, strong, no so much sophisticated as Liebherr and O & K - Cat.Is the same concept from years, and Komtasu, a part the engine, has modified nothing of the genuins Demang project and machine conceptGood

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +1

      I would agree. They were a very simple designed and well engineered machine.

      Demag, mounts only Rexroth components, with Cummins and now Komatsu engines.
      The best hyd components with a strong structure.
      The best for mining

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +2

      The engines are still built by Cummins, just marketed as a Komatsu engine.

    Another awesome (and appreciated!) video, Justin- many thanks. Honest question from an non-mining professional who enjoys your vids- are the cycle times a bit slow on this machine, or are they about right because of the size of the bucket? Many thanks- keep 'em coming!

    • @coalminer1553
      @coalminer1553 7 років тому

      To me it doesn't look like the shot isn't shot very well making it hard to dig

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +2

      Sure. Everything on this machine is still mostly original and it has almost 40,000 hours I think. With no major rebuild and due to its age, there's likely to be a lot of fluid bypassing. Of course, a rebuild done right is a few million dollars. Sometimes it's cheaper to repair as things break as long as the machine is still moving material. The other factor at play here is that he's digging in a poor shot which also slows the machine down. In well shot material, an H185S can cycle a 100 ton truck in about 1:30-1:45 seconds. The third factor here is truck size. The H185S was designed to load up to 150 ton trucks, however the load time drops due to the number of passes required.

Been stoppin in a little store in hazard ky on our way to work that has some killer strip mine photos of the 995, ok340, lots of 11s..upright and turned over..and the gem is the 8050 ran by starfire coal horizon ent at that time...whoever took them done it right like yourself..lotta memories workin long nasty hrs on weekends

    Tough digging. Looked like shale. Good operator. Was that a piece of rebar hooked on that tooth? Just axing. Good video, Pal! A-PLUS!

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +3

      It was a poor shot in sandstone. And yes, that is rebar. This job is actually on the site of an old underground mine facility (you can see the old coal breaker in the background from the 1940s off to the right) They run into lot's of old concrete foundations and structures here. Thanks!
