    I ran that thing 3 years ago but I'm not 100 percent if that was me or not. Lol. Oiled for a few years on nightshift first. Some days everything felt smooth and went well other days hell on earth. 😂

      How reliable is that excavator? Is there a lot of downtime and maintenance? How many tons per bucket?

    Certainly interesting video. My gramps bootleged hard coal in Northumberland County. He would drag me along to the "strippins" while on summer break. Good times. Thanks for the cool videos 👍

    It's interesting to see older technology like rope shovels still out there and killing it in mines. Are they still around because of lower costs compared to a hydraulic front shovel, or are there other reasons?

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +11

      Electric shovels in general are designed to last for decades and are meant for long-term mining projects. These machines are simple in design and manufactures offer numerous electrical and computer upgrades for the machines as they get older.

      And, they are bought and paid for. Lol why we still occasionally run Dart 600D wheel loaders. Because they are paid for and can only make money

    what an odd cab for an shovel of that type sort of small for that size shovel
    keep up the great work my friend thanks for getting back to me about the diorama so quick

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +9

      The cab is actually of age with the base machine. That's how the P&H Cabs from the 1970s looked. Thanks!

    Good shovel man. Doesn't kill the trucks, unlike the nitwit we had. And looks like Komatsu bought out the Corn Poppers. Hear a hammer pecking away in the background. Good one, pal!

    Does the shovel have a train horn on it?

  • @RaptorGP

    Mmm... Classic rope shovels are the best!

  • @Jzcmnbk
    @Jzcmnbk 3 роки тому +3

    When hydraulics arnt enough and flexible steel wire rope is required to haul arse lifting the bucket up n down. Those drums must move to see that bucket move so quick. Powerful. There would a stupid amount of torque on the drum reels. I know those trucks load 300 tone so the buckets probably 100 tonne capacity.

    Is a rope-shovel turn around faster than a hydraulic version? Looks it!

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +14

      With the right operator and in well blasted material, a rope shovel is always faster than a hydraulic shovel

    Welded plus 10 tons of metal to the ladle, and then they are surprised that the parameters of the electric motors fall and the cable often breaks)))

    That thing has to be lifting at least 80 tons a bucket or 90. 830s are probably 300 ton trucks or close to it. We use to have 2 730s at the mine I worked at and alot of cat 789s.

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  7 років тому +2

      Easily, it's amazing the raw power these machines have. The 830s are 240 ton.

      The 830e is indeed a 240t truck... we blue skied this design in 1986 and 87 in Peoria.

    • @gordboyko769

      One man operates the shovel . I’ve never run one myself, but I’ve been on board and watched from directly behind the operator.
      Awesome machines . Over 100 tons per scoop .

      1 person to run it. Several to keep it running.
      I wonder if people do maintenance on it in the back while it is working ? Probably too much movement.

    So I guess the silver spade would make this big guy look kinda small? And I'm guessing that the spades shovel could, in theory, pick up that hauling dump truck? Yes?

    • @jjMcCartan9686
      @jjMcCartan9686 4 місяці тому

      Well it probably could but the silver spade was cut up & scrapped after a history group couldn't raise enough money to buy it & the land it was on .
