      Actually sushi is not the best for you, white refined rice turns easily into glucose, aka sugar which is easily processed and absorbed, which might cause you sugar levels to spike and then crash later. Depending where you buy it or what type, fish might be as little as 15% of the total roll, so not exactly a protein feast. Depending on how much soy sauce you like or crunchy bits that are fried in canola oil, your sugar, salt, calorie number might be lower if you eat a Big Mac.

    Traditionally the Japanese palate prefers a more mild flavor and tends to favor more umami (savory), salty foods with maybe a splash of acidity over things that are super spicy. so for those wondering why the curry and chicken are not spicy that is the reason. also when it comes to the curry its usually more thick than other curries as it sticks to rice easier since that's their main source of carbs and starches. The Thai and Indians often eat their food with a mix of rice accompanied with a traditional bread such as naan or roti which soaks up the curry. Japanese didn't really have a bread to go with it at the time it spread to them so it was adapted to be more thick so that it would stick to rice and food and then they made it more mild to agree more with the average Japanese palate.

    Glad you enjoyed Japanese food! Japanese food isn’t normally spicy. As many Japanese people don’t do too well with spicy food. Therefore it tends to be mild. That being said however, there is some spicy food in Japan though not as much as Korean or Thai cuisine.

    Growing up eating home cooked Japanese food, I agree with Justine. The katsudon and ramen are definitely foundations to build upon and usually are. My family always added roasted veggies to Japanese curry especially (we'd cook big pots of it and that'd be dinner for days). There are whole cookbooks on what to add to ramen to spice it up (literally and otherwise). Love that y'all love it either way.
    I will say that, as an Asian person, I was dying watching y'all eat it with a fork. Especially the sushi! OMG LOL

      Some of the more western influenced food might have been neat to have them try too, as it has a degree of familiarity, yet is also not the typical way the food is used in the west, and also isn't the first thing that would normally come to mind when thinking of Japanese cuisine.

    Just some information, japanese food, though flavorful, is not spicy. Most japanese stuff is actually a little bland if you're used to really bold flavors. But it can be good when you just want to slow down and actually enjoy the flavors of the ingredients themselves and not the seasonings and aromatics.

    • @hotsauce5745
      @hotsauce5745 2 роки тому

      I'm a bit confused. You say it's flavorful but also a little bland. I'm pretty sure one would cancel out the other.

      @@hotsauce5745 hmmm, I'm Indian and for most people around me that's very easy to understand.
      I'll try harder.
      Basically it doesn't really have explosive flavors like heat and sweet and sour. It's more about depth of the flavour, the umami flavours.
      So basically people I know would say, thoda phika hai but bada swaad hai. Which translates to, it's a little bland but it's very tasty.

    • @Illjwamh

    • @thebigmystery7841
      @thebigmystery7841 Рік тому +1

      @@hotsauce5745 a better way to explain it, dishes in japan tend to try and bring out the flavors of what your cooking or making rather than tons of spices of seasonings. A good example is sushi. Master sushi chefs in Japan make sushi in ways to specifically bring out the flavor of the fish being served. To the point of, some sauces and things like wasabi are discouraged because it would 'tarnish the flavor of tbe fish' thus not be what they wanted to present for the meal. Almost like art. Another example of sushi is if you have shashimi or nigiri, (where the rice is exposed rather than a roll wrapped in nori) its polite to dip the fish side in soysauce so you dont soak it all up with the rice, thus throwinf off the flavor of the rice itself. The fish isnt the same so you can control the amount of sauce on it.

    Oh, and as an aside, Japanese food generally doesn't have a lot of spice. Korean food has much spicier fare than Japanese food does.
