Yes, Yes, Yes, Add the windows and drawers to the staircase wall. It adds your touch and will be very satisfying for both of you every time you look at it. 👁💗 this UA-cam channel!
a suggestion only: take one of those plastic bags, put a current newspaper in side of it, and write a note from the two of you about what you are doing, when, what problems you encounter, and what surprises you find. Include that in the bag, tape it shut as well as you can, and bury it for the next renovators to find! In my friend's house, we found a newspaper from 1946 in the wall, along with a note from the then owners. It was really neat to see what they were doing, and thinking. The newspaper was a real eye opener as well. We learned that the Marshall plan was not at all popular, even though or education told us differently. (Letters to the editor section.). Besides, in 70 to 100 years, what will they know or think of Covid? Keep up the great work!
What the didn't tell us in history class is that the US made the Marshall help depend on all kinds of political demands. So it was a trade off. For The Netherlands f.i. it implied the decolonization of Indonesia, while breaking it's promise made to the Moluccans for independence. That has caused significant issues later, until this day. On the whole Germany was off better than many of its victims.
It´s not only for us to see the hard work. In a few years, when everything is (mostly) done, you will appreciate that you filmed so much because I regret having not taken any pictures when we made our home from scratch.
Even now, when I come back to the videos a year ago, I enjoy watching how much has changed already. And sometimes ask myself: "Did we do that ourselves?!" Congratulations on your home! How long are you living there already?
I love the new idea for the staircase, especially the built-in shelf. At least that way you save yourselves the work of having to rebuild the brick wall and all of the previously unused space under the staircase can be put to good use. Also I love your idea of reusing the old windows for more lighting. I think it would look really cool and give the space some more character. Love from Spain
I like the window in the staircase idea. I don't like dark, narrow places, especially going up and down stairs. Those windows will be a huge benefit. I also like the idea about the storage and wardrobe. Very nice and no wasted spaces.
Very creative way to 1) add light, and 2) preserve and display some vintage windows from the original structures on the farm and/or from the Era. Good luck! 👍🥰
I just bought one of your T shirts. I LOVE the "Why not?" message! Also, your inspector must be very knowledgeable by now about construction techniques and codes. Perhaps there's a lucrative career out there for her in the building industry. Her inspections seem very thorough.

You both are doing a fabulous job my hat is off to you 😊 much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖 Lol 😂 your husband saying, (Why bricks lol 😂) the plans for the staircase with the windows absolutely brilliant and what a beautiful decor it will make 😊
As soon as your husband opened a small space from the wall there was so much light that came through. I like the idea of a closet under the stairs or a display cabinet. Maybe keep it open so there is a hand rail on one side. I guess those two nobs a today's treasure and wallpaper. I was hoping for something more for you. Great idea taking that wall out. Love what you're doing. Thank you for sharing your house with us.👍👍👍😊✨🌟
Illia, in Australia we call the stuff you found in the corner "RUBBLE'. It fills the hole to prevent too much dampness or water, but in reality t needs special treatment - ie water barrier etc to prevent the water creeping into your home and causing rising damp over time. You are doing such an amazing job- well done to both of you. Your channel is so interesting and you both work so hard. you should be proud of your achievements and progress! i LOVE YOUR IDEA ABOUT THE DIFFERENT WINDOWS TO LET LIGHT IN ABOVE THE STAIRCASE! SO UNIQUE AND SPECIAL AND VERY ARTISTIC - LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING IT COME TO FRUITION! Love from Australia!! xxxx
Awesome idea to put the windows where the old wall was and utilize the storage under the staircase. My husband put in hidden storage in one of our homes under the stairs.
Thank you Robin! I really love the idea of having them in all different shapes and from different buildins - farms, castles, sheds.... Each one telling it's own story.
I am addicted to your videos! I searched your channels and posts to see if I could find a sketch of the original floor plan of the house, and your new floor plan, but no luck. I would love it if you posted your sketches in a searchable way. You are both so courageous to take on these huge tasks, learning as you go, and filming it all for the world to review and criticize. But your viewers also give you advice and support. I personally cannot wait to see you on move in day!
I must get some De Hoeve wear! My home was built in 1908 so it will be particularly meaningful for me and my own Inspector Cat. Also, I always have a wheelbarrow in my front yard.
I like the idea of the many different windows in the wall. That will be awesome. It has been a lot of work, but your home will be beautiful when you have finished.
I love the amazing history in the home you are rebuilding - you are a hard working inspirational family thank you so much for sharing your journey, we look forward to seeing what you will create.
I love love love that idea of a window wall❣️❣️❣️ As you were taking down the old wall I was hoping you would not hide the space behind the stairs again. It’s really a lovely space to include into the room. Thank you for picking up on all the commenters thoughts and changing your plans on the fly. It will be a show case wall that you will love for many more years. 💛
2 fabulous ideas. Merchandise selections are very practical and attractive. I really love the wall design, using both form and function. Your guests are in for a real treat.
I like that idea. When the wall came down I thought it was interesting that the space wasn’t used for storage. I know you have other plans, but I always thought that room would make a really nice kitchen,
I can’t wait to see how you handle the stairs..! OOPS…. I didn’t expect that..!! LOL Now, I will just watch to the end..!! You have the patience of a saint..! God bless you. You never seem to be defeated..! Keep up the good work..!
Ingenious, the demolition of the wall opens up new worlds in interior design. Build in a beautiful staircase ... I call that a stroke of luck in house renovation!
I love the idea of making sure the space under the stairs will be not only useful but also have an interesting antique touch by saving the old windows.💗 It will definitely brighten the area! That ground was sooooo squishy when you were trying to get the clay flattened down!😮
I’m pleased that the catspector is still keeping his eye on your work. It’s incredible by the way! You’re making sure that everything is perfect. Well done 👍
I really enjoy the use of the antique windows as a wall. Their art will be on display for all to see. Great idea, thank you for taking us on this journey.
Oh, I love the design of the wallpaper! It looks very Japanese ... like cherry or plum blossom. 😍 I love love love the idea to use the old windows in the staircase! I love old windows. Just this past summer I glazed and restored my sister's Diamond Mission windows in her home. It was a lot of work but so satisfying to see them happy and strong again. ☺ Right now I'm fixing old double-hung rope and weight windows for a friend's home. It's not a skill I trained for or intended to develop. Old windows became a passion of mine at some point. They deserve to be cared for. And it turns out, I'm pretty good at it.
Yes!! The windows will be perfect! Earlier in this video I was admiring the softness of the natural light in the house, and the mellowness of the earth-tones. The windows will let in more of the magnificent light that has inspired so many Belgian painters.
Marina, your idea about putting in windows is wonderful! The most important concern is to know which walls are “load bearing” because they support the weight of the whole house and the roof. Also, when you’re adding windows, you need structural support from a lintel over the top. I’m sure there are many UA-cam videos that discuss such things - I call it the University of UA-cam. I love watching Anneke - she is the star of your channel! And I continue to admire Illia’s strength - I wish I could work like him.

Agree with adding the storage for sure. If the wall can handle adding windows without compromising the structure then absolutely add the beautiful windows. So much work! Great job! 😊👍

@@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm what might be interesting is use some of the old building materials and make it look like a outside of small buildings. Had a friend do that it was beautiful 😊.
Even if it is a non-bearing wall, every hole in a wall is a weakness so be certain to build a nice, wooden frame(jamb) for each window to strengthen and support the weight of the entire structure. It would be nice to have some tiny LED lights on a dimmer switch to enhance the effect at night. Perhaps, a few window sills for plants and the cat inspector on the higher windows.
Wow, talk about having your hands full with demolition. Good thing you found that wall when you did. Needed to come down something awful. Sometimes the work in such situations is not fun, but when it's all done, the final outcome will have been worth all the hard work and effort. Wishing you the best in your endeavors.
