This made no difference at all in Japan built 2021 RAV4 Hybrid Limited AWD. Measured the decibel before and after in same conditions, no change at all (only doors needed more slamming to get shut properly). The big side mirrors are probably the reason for the wind noise. If the car had smaller mirrors or perhaps double-pane glass, there wouldn't be that issue. I found that best workaround for that wind noise is to crank up the JBL sound system.
Decibels are a bad way to measure this. It lacks tone or pitch measurement, which can really change the perceived "loudness" to the ear. If it cuts the wind howl tone, that's pretty good. Go by the ear on this one.
Yo, another RAV4’20 owner here. I’m bothered big time with the engine noise. Ordered some noise absorbing materials and will insulate the engine compartment and the hood. Will keep you all posted. Thanks for the vid!
@@SuperMan-uj7dh Yes I did, it's much better now with the noise insulation, you still hear the engine but it doesn't sound so thrashy anymore. It took a lot of figuring out to do and improvisation though.
@@2t_mxrider thank you for replying! May I know what material you used under the hood? I was thinking of adding the dynamat hoodliner but it's... quite expensive
@@SuperMan-uj7dh Ok, here's the thing. Dynamat is not absorbing the noise but merely reflecting it and it's heavy. I used inexpensive materials, foil covered, like a high temperature felt. I simply used various size pieces of those materials, THE-14130 in the vicinity of the exhaust manifold heatshield and SFT-INSUL1 in the less heated areas and joined all those cut and fit pieces with the high temp golden reflective tape. You can add more layers as needed - I had up to 3 layers of SFT-INSUL1 on the firewall and a two layered blanket above the engine.
I used the Taco weather strip and the size fits perfectly with my 2020 RAV4. The door can be closed as normally directly after installation. I just finished the installation today and I will keep you all posted about the effects
Thanks, wind noise is a bit of a problem and stops me hearing what my wife is muttering, although I'm old and going a bit deaf anyway. Maybe that's a good thing. This looks relatively easy to do and I'm sure it would be an improvement. Very useful thanks I'll give it a go.
DO NOT DO THIS. The location of where you’ve added the gasket material will compromise the existing oem gasketing material. Those oem gasket seals are very efficient. By adding your own gasket material, overtime you will permanently deform the shape of the oem gasket rendering it useless as a noise/humidity shield. If you are going to add any of your own gaskets, put it in locations where an existing seal won’t make contact with it
@@bryanoliveira9513 I used high quality weather strip on my 3rd Gen TRD and I removed it in a very short time for all the reasons above. Though it reduced wind noise, it wasn't enough to warrant the damage and hassle the extra stripping caused. It's not that bad to begin.

just look at lexus analog, and do the rubber stripes on the same places as lexus did. this helps best, as you reuse the esiting know how. so quick and effective result.

Toyota is awful. Nobody believes me. Cheaply made poorly designed vehicles. They're getting by selling this crap based on their reputation of selling reliable vehicles in the past.

I dont know why people want less noise, the point of the Rav4 is to be an adventure vehicle, it is not meant for luxury in anyway. Even from it conception that was the direction of Rav4. If you want Luxury and less noise, you get a Lexus. I hate quiet cars, this is why i choose the RAV4.

Something i thought was interesting is the venza which is basically the rav4 has extra material on the pull out cargo tray for sound.

Does it gonna damage the factory window seal? Hope no impact on the warranty?

Any particular reason for using a D Shape weather strip? Market has flat ones, grooved and B shape but trying to understand the logic. Thanks
I feel the road noise is an issue. Plan on having the doors deadened to see if it helps
Yeap. That is also a problem and sound deadening does help. You hear that more when you have wind noise reduced too. Always something.
