- Each of the lenses of the Xreal Air AR glasses features a 1080p display, and the glasses can act as a second monitor for any USB-C or HDMI device.
During the making of this video Nreal changed their company name to Xreal. The Xreal Air/Nreal Air products are the exact same but this is why you'll hear me using the old name throughout the video.

You guys did a better job reviewing these than tech youtubers did in videos twice as long. Thanks!
I love my pair. I mostly use them with my BT headphones to get a personal theater experience for Netflix when I'm on a plane.
You forgot to mention that most people with a Samsung phone don't realize that their USBC port is also Display Port capable and anytime they plug a monitor into that port, it launches a full blown windows-like operating system called DEX. Pair that with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you have a full blown computing environment. You can also buy a handheld trackball mouse called Elecom Relacon that has built in back/fwd, and media controls, and it's the perfect companion for your ultra mobile Samsung/Xreal setup.
thank you for showing what you can see through the glasses when you put them on the camera!
Thanks for the unbiased review!
However, given when this video is coming out, I would have loved to see how things change with the xreal beam add on. It's $110 more but addresses a few concerns like the multiple adapters needed for the switch as well as holding the screen in place when the head is rotated. Would love to see a follow up when the beam is available to review!
I tried my friend's Beam, it drops the fps of Switch like crazy.... Viture is a much better choice if you are switch gamer
There is no way for me to get the vitures to be remotely clear on the edges. For me the xreal airs were much easier to use. A bit of a bummer since viture has an awesome suite of companion devices
Great review. Much appreciated that you also talked about some difficulties that you found.
This is why I love technology; it’s like magic with endless possibilities to be done! I could definitely see how having an air screen would benefit in a lot of ways. It’s basically a monitor/display that’s no bigger than a couple of inches on your eyes projecting to give the wearer a much larger display for work and recreation. Once the tech is more commonplace and it’s been developed a bit more, I will be getting a pair most definitely.
Great video
Looks like a future "Standard" office gadget. The MINIMUM if you catch my drift
eye strain and motion sickness enter the chat
@@jensenraylight8011maybe not so bad! The focal distance is what causes eye strain but this puts it a couple feel away from you so you shouldn’t have much eye strain, maybe less than a normal monitor. And also wouldn’t cause motion sickness since you’re not virtually moving around in a vr game with this.
@@asherrfacee LTT linus and other literally got motion sickness when reviewing this type AR glasses
I've tried them, and they are the future, they are light, they have an open field of view and look cool. Of course, the software still needs a lot of work, but they are getting there. Also in terms of hardware, they have introduced Beam, which helps with both battery and connectivity. I'm amazed none of the big tech manufacturers haven't bought them yet.
i am really interested with Xreal Air + Beam, my main concern is that they can't display better than a 1080p screen.
so 1920x1080
That's the resolution i used 10y ago, then i needed more, 2650x1440, and then i needed even more.
Actually, i work on a 32" at 3008x1692 and it's perfect, and if i could have a bigger screen, i would be happy to work on a 40" at native 4K (3840x2160)
It's possible in real life but the size of the monitor would need lot of space on my desk. Space that i don't have.
BUT ... This could be possible with Xreal Air if they would have 2 head-mounted screen at 4K, and not 1080p
Maybe in a future version of the product ?
I asked them and no answer (obviously).
so i'm waiting
@@alexandrevery The Beam allows you to increase your screen size or zoom in. If you have the Xreal Air and Beam you can experiment with this. Play a 1080p video, then zoom or scale it with the Beam, you will notice the pixels. Now switch it to 4k and do the same thing, quality scales when you zoom! There's also a trick you can do with PCs or laptops where you're connect to 4K TV or monitor... now just connect or swap over to your Xreal Airs with Beam. The same zooming and scaling test will apply.
In 2D it doesn't matter because it's 4K on a 1080p screen. But in 3DoF that the Beam provides, you are exploring 4K resolution in 1080p. It's hard to explain, you have to try it!
@@sdmods619 that’s a $500 test
A few years wait and we'll be good to go, I'm hoping
@@alexandrevery Its never cheap to use the latest and greatest tech. Take it from a tech aficionado, it will take a couple years to even do 1080p well w/ light glasses. 4K prob at least 4-5. Its not just about the tech being good enough, its about it being sellable to consumers ie low-enough cost
I'm delighted I watched before placing an order! 😄
I love the design on the adapter, genius
Amazing review a lot more detailed then other videos I have watched. Keep it up
I discovered this device on Apple WWDC when the vision was introduced and i was dismayed by the $3499 price tag. I had the XReal Air’s at my house by the end of the week.
The Air’s are a compliment to your phone the same way AirPods Pro’s are.
The angle for this device to me is that you can have a 120 inch screen for whatever device you go and not attract the type of attention that the Apple Vision Pro will.
If you’re a student in a dorm when paired with your phone and headphones these glasses turn into a 120 screen to watch your movies and not disturb your roommate while studying.
Or if someone else is watching TV and you still wanted to view your content on a movie like screen.
At $379 this is an ecosystem I can support and wouldn’t mind upgrading when they come out with new hardware.
I’ve personally never considered mobile gaming until this, but it turns your phone into a decent game system on the go.
I think Apple is missing out in millions by not making an affordable device like this that augments the user experience on the devices they already produce 🤷🏾♂️.
This is a great testimonial. Thanks.
Apple has no interest in releasing inexpensive products. They want the cache that comes with being an expensive premium thing.
Take the AirPods Max and their competitor headphones that all cost about 33% less (a good hundred dollars).
I work in tech. Every director level engineer I work with has a pair of the AirPod Max.
"I think Apple is missing out in millions by not making an affordable device like this that augments the user experience on the devices they already produce 🤷🏾♂."
I think you are missing Apple strategy.
The Vision Pro is NOT a product designed to be sold. And they won't sold it. They will sell some to a bunch of developpers, content creators and some happy few, but this is not the main point.
The VisionPro is here to be the first step to "spacial computing", and the "big money" will come later, with affordable products
Apple makes tons of money every quarters with AFFORDABLE products : iPhone, iPad, Airpods, Apple Watch and ... the Macbook Air. Forget the rest (Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, etc), the real money comes from that simple list of affordable products. They are affordable, but above all they offer a great experience, and that's why people buy it.
Next Apple's AR/VR product will be the same : priced between $500 and $1500, so affordable, and offering the same (or better) experience than Vision Pro initiated.
@@alexandrevery I think you’re losing sight of what affordable is.
You’re pointing at the lower priced items they offer. Those items are still upper end to mid tier for the type of item they are.
It’s easy to get a competent, cheaper phone, basic laptop, smart watch, or Bluetooth headphones than what Apple offers.
They certainly are missing out on units sold with their pricing policy. They’re not priced to be affordable. They’re digital Gucci. That’s their plan. Gucci has less expensive things, but even those are on the more expensive side and it’s still easy to find alternatives that are cheaper.
@@alexandrevery hey, we all have our thoughts, opinions and theories on the matter. Time will tell.
@@zero11010 what you are talking about is "low cost" products, and as far i as know, Apple never wanted to do low-cost products. That's it.
If you think it exists products that are cheaper to Apple's ones, you are right
if you think theses products equals or are better to Apple ones, think again.
These glasses look really cool i might be considering buying a pair of them
It's a big step in the right direction. To analogize, it's like we're in the 80's of PC where things are more of a cool novelty but not practical enough for everyone to replace their day's workflow with yet.
But in the next 10 years, AR will be like the 90's computers where everyone will start using it but it won't yet be fully refined. Only after the 2nd decade will it be so refined that it becomes now seemlessly integrate into society.
So that's around 2040's.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Nreal glasses. I take them everywhere!
I changed my idea about the device because the Xreal Beam. Looking forward for your review.
I mean, we gotta start somewhere, right? Meta might want to combine this tech with their new Ray-Ban smart glasses, for their third gen smart glasses and optimalize it as well. I think you're better off waiting for the fourth or fifth gen before getting any type of smart glasses. Great job on the review of this thing
Excellent review!
AR glasses are my dream come true, the only thing I need now is higher resolution and pixel density, can't wait for the future of AR glasses.
I'm more interested in the quality. I think this setup (glass just displays) is the best solution, and it's the other devices that are the issue. It would be nice to have an option for battery pass-through that would change both devices, though! I'm sure if something like this becomes popular, that would happen. It's all about the quality? Is there a screen door effect? What is it like with the front panel on. I care more about travelling than I do the fixed positions. Steam deck and Phone seem like the win. I wonder if DEX can work?
The xreal and steam deck subreddit already widely use either the RedMagic or Viture charge and play adapter that powers the glasses and charges the device at the same time.
I forsee many companies bringing similar products like this. This is fantastic for the price. I feel products like these will significantly reduce the demand for the Apple Vision pro.
There already are- Viture, Rokid, TCL, and others.
Thank for bejng the only one to talk ab it as a work device
I want to get one to plug into my laptop to do work on it. I am not clear, is the battery life depending on the device you're plugging it in? For example, if it is plug into a laptop, and laptop plug into an outlet. That mean you will never run out of juice correct?
i could stay in bed all day and have this on my face and watch movies a whole sunday lol
The idea and functionality looks great. And as much as it solves quite a few of my problems at the moment, it looks kinda goofy when worn. Like I’m wearing it, but it’s floating. I may just wait until something more slim or something to actually get. But this review is helpful.
They aren't AR glasses (AR means Augmented reality and they don't have any Augmented Reality features). They are glasses that offers a screen, without any fancy VR tech. And as such, the concept has it's uses. But the screens are too small. And the block-out should be attached to the glasses, so it is more a case of just flipping it up for the few occasions when you might need to grab that gaming controller, or remote to control playback... sure you could just take them off, if it was possible to design them to be easier to take off, and we are probably a couple of years away from that.
I would really love to have a pair of glasses that just offers a big screen. And at this point, the Vision Pro, still seems to be the best for that, in terms of image quality, and with the potential of playback of 3D films, but they are unnecessarily complex, with the sensors, the fake eyes and all of that, which makes sense for some VR functionality and for use in an office or similar. But as just something to watch media on to replace a large TV/Projector, or for portable media playback when travelling or to take with you, to make sure you have access to a big screen no matter where you go on holiday or for work, the Vision Pros are too complex. And I'm unsure if any non-pro version would just drop those features, to just work as media glasses. And I would not expect a non pro version to come with the same quality of screens... But perhaps they could do a Apple TV Glasses Pro, for that.
Apple is definitely going to steal this concept. If that's your main concern. They just never jump first when a new tech trend happens.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 steal this concept ??? 🙄
How big does the screen "feel"? For example, like a 65" tv at 6' away, like a cinema screen?
Cool tech idea. I hope the technology progresses to be better with less cables needed.
One question I have is can someone with vision issues use it. I am nearsighted and wear glasses every day. VR headsets are iffy for me because of the screen door effect and the weight on my glasses so the XReal/NReal glasses should be better.
Do you think the xbox and ps5 controllers will throw in video output on the usbc that way we can plug in the AR glasses portably?
The thing that intregs me the most is the large screen. This seems to be the only one that talks about headphones, plus it will connect to both Apple products and Windows. I am interested.
4:06 - I'm a bit confused about when you need the adapter. If your phone or tablet already supports video out via usb-c, do you still need this adapter?
He shows the size of the virtual screen. And, to my eyes it looks to be about 16 inches. But, it’s taking up nearly all of his field of view so it would appear to be huge. But, as far as demonstrating how big the screen is, that is very unclear.
Also, when Xreal talks about this they always talk about the virtual screen size (it’s something like 107 inches or whatever though this changes based on what you’ve got it connected to.
There's going to be an optional "Beam" device sold separately. This device will act as the smart brains for the glasses for resizing/reorienting the screens, as well as easier 3rd party device connection and additional battery. Field of view is 54° or something close. So the produced image could be that large, but when using my meta quest 2 to do similar tasks it's fairly comfortable to make the simulated screen roughly 50". These would be far more comfortable than the meta quest tho seeing as they're only 2oz.
Hello, I'm a Brazilian man and I really liked your video. The explanation you give us about these glasses is very good. Congratulations! Could you answer me a question? Is it possible to watch 3D movies with these glasses? If the answer is positive, how to do this? Thank you and once again, congratulations!
What happens if you use glasses to see? Can you put these over ur regular glasses or is it like the oculas that you have to buy 3rd party prescription lens
This video has bad timing. It also seems like it was reviewed, but the product itself wasn’t researched.
This is like reviewing and critiquing the PS5/XBOX for the first time when the Pro version comes out at the end of the month.
This month Xreal is releasing the Beam which allows users to enlarge the screen at will up to 330 inches as well as make it stationary so it doesn’t move when the glasses move.
It also makes connecting to the Switch a one cable affair as opposed to the dongle mess you saw on this video. It also it has Airplay if you want to use that as an option to display IPhones.
It’s been available to pre-order for at least 6 weeks now.
The switch doesn't need the dock- though it still is a bit cumbersome - If you have USB-C to HDMI cable, you can put it through the HDMI adapter. it isn't perfect, but it works.
I was curious about that, I’m not sure how he thinks you connect the switch to a tv if the only port on the device doesn’t have video output capabilities.
I do music production at home, I have a 32 inch monitor on my desk, but I would actually like to have another monitor, these glasses look like they would help with that if I wanted to open up another window from the software I use.
Surprised you didn't mention the 3D stereoscopic functionality as they're great for watching 3D movies and playing 3D games.
There are very few 3D content out there and since he is not used to have a 3d capable device he probabily don't even know of this possibility.
These are amazing but I’m really curious how this could affect our vision from long term use.
Better than flat screens for sure. Focal distance is several feet, not several inches. Yes it's technically millimeters away from the eyes but it's the focal distance that your brain interprets which affects eyestrain.
After about 70 years you die
@@PavlovVRGameplay How about the blue light or something because it is very close to your eyes?
not good. lots of shortsightedness im sure.
@@5cenpersec there's low blue light mode. Personally I had more eye issues gaming on a computer monitor.
The biggest issue is the field of view isn’t big enough. So if your face isn’t a certain parameter it will be very uncomfortable and you won’t get a clear screen. They really need to increase the size of the screen to fix the issue. The nose piece does help but it only put pressure on your nose and that isn’t idea. Also my glasses have already got a crack in the side from normal wear. I did finally get in contact with support and they seem to be willing to fix them. But the quality needs to be addressed or make the parts easily replaceable.
But with all that said. I do love them and recommend them. The plane ride and passing time at work have really helped. Just some tweaking and this thing will be gold.
That's what the Beam is for. The ability to pin, zoom, and resize the display eliminates all edge visibility issues for those that experience it.
Matter would be great addition to SmartGlasses
does nebula let me look at pdf files
or do i have to connect phone, if dconect the phone, can i scroll down the pdf with the glasses or gotta use the phone to do that
Hello, I would like to know if this glasses works fine with Samsung Dex or Ready for from Motorola, I will apreciate any information about, thanks in advance
Can i put clear lenses in it, i want to use this at work inside, also how close does it sit to your face compared to normal glasses
I sure wish he had spent more than 5 seconds on what the glasses are like to work on. How are they after 2-4 hours? How are they after 6-10 hours? Is this a realistic monitor replacement.
thanks sound good for your techology. are you sure it compatible with Windows Mixed Reality from PC ?
Is that is? If the phone or tablet support usb type c? You mean any? Even the chipset is exynos from mid range phone it work finely?
I think the technology needs a lot of work but this is definitely better than using a screen in VR headsets. Also it would be good for xr/mr.
Wonder if you can make the lenses prescription lenses
7:27 This was just 6 months ago, and it's a nice start... Not long before all this won't need a external device and be just as light at 70grams...🤩😍🤤
It's impossible to find the USB C TO HDMI adapter in my country, sadly.
Fyi i'm using these right now on MacOS because they have an app which allows AR multi monitor setup.. it's amazing, i'm a professional software engineer too so coding can absolutely be done.. just need to bump up the size a bit. Love these glasses especially that my wife and I can watch two different things while still being next to eachother lol (me using the glasses her using the tv)
review rokid air max comparisons
I need a 120" Sean.
be great if a pair of glasses could be a camera monitor. just be really cool
I'd give it bone conduction speakers for one thing. That's just common sense. They are tiny, no one else can hear the sound, and they don't block your ears. 2nd, I'd use smart-tint so that you can control the tint of the glasses...that's another easy one to do. Then the software can control the tint instead of putting a cover over them to black them out and look like a blind person. It could even be programmed to automatically adjust to how bright it is outside...again pretty simple to do. There's a TON of other stuff I would do, also have a brilliant idea for a very simple handheld device that would act as a mouse / touchpad and make the input like 100x better. I had written all these ideas out like 8 years ago for the perfect smart glasses. I had all the ideas and it was glorious, just didn't have the resources to actually make the things. Also appearance is another big part of it...they made these things so unaesthetic. With the hardware they are using they could have made them far more stylish. If they did this right this would be HUGE. Imagine if Steve Jobs were alive and created these things. They would be the hottest product right now. They wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. Finally people would start getting rid of their hunchbacks and messed up necks. I really hope they make improvements to these. TBH though they are already pretty damn cool for that price point.
So say you are watching a movie on a iPhone are you watching it on a iPhones screen just right in front of you? Or is it like a tv screen
Is there any reason why the optical lens couldn't be the same size as the glasses lens so that there isn't the bottom of the lens in the middle of your vision? They're probably just getting enough sales and not changing anything.
I returned mine.I got them from Amazon.I could not get any customer service.I bought all the adapters, they didn’t work. What was I doing wrong?
What about connecting multiple glasses for a movie night or to listen to music???
Nice review... but if it doesn't work with the Nintendo switch... I guess I need a portable steam deck.
I bought these last night, after disappointment with the Rokid glasses, which require all sorts of gymnastics and various third party screen mirroring apps to see anything from iPhone or Android. Worse, I cannot watch downloaded Netflix with them from a phone. My entire motivation was to be able to have several movies available for 14 hour flights. From what I've read, Nreal may resolve all of these gripes.
And finally...?
You should update with the beam which solves many of your issues mrntionef
if i put my phone in the pocket and block screen can i still use the glasses?
Damn I came for the glasses but stayed for the hunk 😍😍😍 He might be to sexy for tech
When is the rayneo coming out. That's all I wanna know
Nice video
What advantages does it have compearing to Viture XR? They sell for about the same price and seem to be very similiar.
Viture has the mobile dock which is capable of two Viture One glasses at once! Viture also has better color accuracy.
Thx
Traveling with a console is wild to me. I deff am not a big enough gamer for that to make sense to me
What about when im walking like if im going for a walk and want to watch UA-cam how good is it?
Is there a way to use these with the steam deck and charge the deck at the same time? Thats the million dollar question for me. Otherwise its useless, I dont want to have my play time limited by the battery.
I got them, usfortunatly your head has to stay still, which is imposible since we are use to move our head all the time to see better the corners of a screen, now, I pre-order the beam device, that is going to be revolutionary,.
This actually seems like something useful ...
Only 1080P? Wake me when a 4k product comes out.
Have you guys seen that meta and mediatek have joined hands to make some Ar glasses?
The glasses are pretty cool but the host is crazy hot!
Questions to the users, do you continue using this glasses after the novelty has worn off? Or is this sort of like VR headsets?
AR glasses are much lighter than VR and far easier to put on and take off. Also, my Quest 2 sits unused because I'm too lazy to wash my oily face first before I use it. I don't have to worry about that with AR glasses. I use my Xreals as a mobile display, which is what most people use it for. It dwarfs my TV and and hand held screens and I can lay completely flat on my bed or recliner in a relaxed state.
Can your AR screen stay on a certain wall or is it front of your eyes anywhere you look?
If you are using it through the phone software, the screens stay in place when you move your head (not sure how placeable the windows/screens are, though). Maintaining a relative position has to be done by the external source (but can use the glasses' internal gyros), so simple video sources are displayed in a fixed position that stays in front of you when you move your head. A new accessory called the Beam is being released that will pass-through video, adding the spatial processing. That might be enough to get these to use with my Steam Deck when travelling.
I heard that with the steam deck you can't "fix" the screen. I mean if you move your head the screen stay in front of you.
To me it's a limitation. I prefere having the screen simulated like it was somewhere fixed in the room with a "switch button" to navigate between fixe screen and moving screen.
Xreal Beam allows this and it works with Steam Deck.
work with ipad pro with usb-c port?
What if you make a pair of glasses like in those two movies. They live and Thirteen Ghost. You change the frequency in see through different dimensions.
Is has camera? And the lens is always darker?
The issues regarding the cables feel like more of the output device problems as everything nowadays should be able to output to USB c
And how can you connect it to a PC if it only have USB c port??
The Question is when will there be a next Version of XREAL?
Plus they need to ship Worldwide and not only the USA
i asked them (a 4K version). They answered they don't know. But it's like asking to Apple what are the spec of the next Macbook Pro ... don't expect an answer 🙂
Qualcomm Snapdragon AR2 processor is out and all AR glasses manufacturers are already working on the next big thing. As a lightweight mobile display, you can't go wrong jumping in on this early.
I'm confused, the description states that this is a review for XREAL AR glasses but you keep saying NREAL, is there a difference?
The company changed their name from NREAL to XREAL during the recording and publishing of this video.
@ChudDin I see, thanks for clarifying 👍
This seems like the title should be “review for a new charging game” led with a lot of frustrating wait times.
No battery in the glasses is actually the reason I want a pair of it.
No battery is by design. it makes it way way lighter, and the battery won't degrade
How’s the response time?
You're using the wrong adapter for all that. Go look up the Nubia RedMagic Adapter. It's DP over USB-C with USB-C charging.
Can you wear them with prescription glasses?
Google it and you'll find a lot of options.
see i liked the glasses got myself the Nreal AIr as well but my problem is i got the glassless and few months later they got Air 2 now, i paid $700CAD plus tax for the Xreal Air but now its down to around $400 worth not great
Usb c ipads don’t have to have an adapter. I am disappointed that this review the beam, but I think this will fix a lot of the complaints in this review and in real life.
You failed to mention it has NO motion sensor, so the image moves whenever you move your head instead of remaining in the same spot.
The Beam solves this. It's another product XReal will be offering that enhances it to act more like a wireless smart display. Resizeable stable 3dof displays, easier connection control.
why does he say and its written Nreal when it the title says Xreal?
I just wish it were a 4k display, the 1080p doesn’t always cut it
If they can find away to add a battery and Bluetooth 🔥🔥🔥
