Have been mega busy with the day job so fitting in the filming and the editing has had to take a back seat but I’ll try (but can’t promise) to get part two out next weekend!
The shape of the holding tank outlet looks guaranteed to block with solids. Unless manual disimpaction is a job the owner enjoys, a straight down outlet is less likely to block. Some way to poke the outlet clear from the deck pump out helps. A diverter bypassing the tank is essential for when blockage inevitably occurs (which usually means another seacock or a clever combimation of diverters).
The removal of waste from the bowl ti the tabk is via a diaphragm pump so that would break up any large solids, the one way valves in the pump only open so much so it “should” be ok as long a people are not flushing sanitary towel or kitchen tissue in there. I generally say no loo roll goes into the tank on my boat and I have never had a blockage.
@@waterboy8999 depends on the loo roll, the expensive quilted “posh” stuff that some people (mostly women) like to buy doesn’t break down easily like the cheap stuff I prefer to use on a boat. So as with all things in life … it depends 😁
Perfect timing, I am doing exactly this to mu 1982 Westerly Konsort! Specifically the holding tank mounting, as my Jabsco is fine. You are giving me a lot of confidence to do the job the right way. Thanks 👍
Really enjoy the channel and your work. When you built the stringers behind the heads you didn’t fillet or roundover the plywood former. I know glass doesn’t love to go over sharp edges. How do you decide when to fillet, etc? Not questioning your work, just trying to understand.
Mine is a 1978 so it has the GRP molded liner with the fixed sink. My holding tank is in the exactly the same place and it was cool to see how it must've been installed.
George, I'm curious ... it looks like you didn't put thickened resin between the ends of the stringers and bulkheads. Just wondering if there was a reason for this other than saving on resin & time. I would think that filling the gaps would make installing the fiberglass easier.
i was thinking of doing this for my boat, but i think the cheaper and easier way to do it is have a cassette toilet to show the fuzz and my normal head that i can use at other times
The more I learn of fibreglass the more confused I get! From what I see you epoxied the ply to the hull, which I get. However then you used CSM which I understand to be a no no with epoxy. So is it OK to mix them?
I wasn’t using epoxy…. Plywood was bonded to the hull using a polyester based bonding paste, it was then glasses over using a polyester laminating resin and the polyester flowcoat over that. All compatible products. Nothing wrong with using epoxy in much the same way but as you say, most CSM is not compatible with epoxy beciae it needs the styrene in the polyester to breakdown the binder that holds the csm together. Hope this helps 😁
Thanks for another great video. I’m interested to know if a composting option was considered and if there are any reasons why that would not be suitable.
Composting loo was, I think, very briefly considered and then discounted. Neither the owner or I really like the idea of having a composting loo on a small boat. No one wants to pump waste into the sea where you may want to swim so a holding tank is a good solution and pumping out offshore is perfectly acceptable. After all, there is a huge amount of sealife that poops in the sea and their poops must massively outweigh what comes from pleasure boats.
Always a lovely day when the Solent boat butler posts a video!! Thank you For being awesome. Also. Please do less off camera. We love seeing EVERYTHING
So what’s it to be…. More talk or less talk? I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and it varies with how I feel and what mood I’m in. 😁. Always up for feedback and comments, keep em coming !
Great stuff. Super descriptions of the work you're doing. It's very helpful
Very neat glass work. Love the high standards.
Thank you very much!
Regarding teak veneers - an instructional vid on teak veneer spot repairs / re veneering whole panels would be fantastic.
At last! Another video!

@@RefitandSailsurely loo roll I'd OK, it's designed to fall apart, try using it to clean up some luiquid.

@@RefitandSail I've not encountered posh loo roll yet, not on my boat at least.....

Great, best of luck with the project. If weight is not an issue you could use corian (or similar).
very good work 👌
Thanks 🙏
Love it! Thanks for your effort

You have my preferred heads arrangement, the new one has a pull out sink like the older/original style and it’s not so nice to use IMO

Great stuff, again george. Did you get back to the sailing donkey regarding his cracked gelcoat deck?
Thanks. Don’t recall if I was contacts about that or not, I get a huge number of emails/messages so don’t remember them all.
@RefitandSail it's on his channel, I was just wondering. :-) he seems a decent guy.

thanks very much for the nice comment, its really appreciated!
The tank is very small.
It’s only for occasional/emergency use and there is limited space to fit a larger tank
Good channel, nice work and informative. Maybe less talking?
There's a few silent movies on UA-cam, cheeky bugger.
