Repairing the John Deere JS40 (Part 3)

This was a mower that I recently received. It sat in the previous owner's garage for quite some time. In this series, I go over how I repair a mower after sitting for a few seasons, and some of the tips and tricks I use when repairing equipment.

Thank you, JD I will be watching the rest. I got the same JS 40 purchased new 2007 runs great had to replace mostly rear wheels mowing on a slope. Also traction cables.

I just started flipping mowers. Dont know much of brands and models yet. Any ways. I seen the js 40 listed for 40 bucks. It has two high wheels in the back, and two little ones in front. Definitely craftsman mowers wheels. But i didnt put that together until I got home. I took the cover off the transmission area. Completly missing everything. Transmission, the hubs, the wheel adjusters, gears everything. Then the prices of parts are unrealistic for profit to be made. I have a Toro personal pace mower deck everything's there. I got the engine mounted to the deck and belt actually lines up good with the trans. Only thing though, is I believe the john deere is a 21 inch, while the toro has a 22inch cut. So I might just throw it all in the parts shed, and let a scrapper have it at the end of the season. Win some lose some I guess.

After 12 years mine still starts up every time. I need to do an oil change and spark plug replace.
