As time goes by, this record, like Marquee Moon, just gets better! Few bands ever create such a perfectly crafted, conceptually tight album, that continues to hold up, 40 years after its release!
Actually, lots of bands do. Television's other album Adventure, the Pop Group's Y and For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder, Love's Forever Changes, the Incredible String Band's The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter and Wee Tam, Pere Ubu's Modern Dance, Big Star's Third Album, The Teardrop Explodes' Kilimanjaro, The New Age Steppers' s/t 1st, Ruts with The Crack, Young Marble Giants with Colossal Youth..... there are so many.... (fixed my reply because it included albums not quite 40 y/o)
One day in the very early 80s I was looking through records in a record store and saw this, thought to give it a chance. I liked the simple cover and some of the song titles. Heck, (back then) it was only $5. I liked it right away and told some friends. The Feelies became one of my favorites bands.
Was trippin on acid blasting music and this shit came on and hooked me so I started dancing all weird n shit and after the song was over It really wasn’t over
There are many astonishing facts about this LP. The producer (the band itself?) did a great job: Take the sound of the drums throughout, for example the wonderful tribal drumming on this. Anton Fier lateron also turned out to be a masterful jazz drummer with the Lounge Lizards. He really was the Jaki Liebezeit of the 80s.
Amazing album from a band of honest-to-goodnesss geeks. More than any other band I can think of, or any other album, that description sums it up. Please let me reiterate the positive: this album is REALLY GOOD!!!!!!
Little Tony was sitting on a park bench munching on one candy bar after another. After the 6th candy bar, a man on the bench across from him said, “Son, you know eating all that candy isn’t good for you. It will give you acne, rot your teeth, and make you fat.” Little Tony replied, “My grandfather lived to be 107 years old.” The man asked, “Did your grandfather eat 6 candy bars at a time?” Little Tony answered, “No, he minded his own fucking business.” --Robert Anton Wilson

Listened to this because someone said Cherub Rock by the Smashing Pumpkins stole the riff. They are nothing alike, if anything the riff from this song sounds exactly like the Danmed's, 'Neat Neat Neat.'
Yeah, it seems like the Femmes and a lot of other 80's jangle pop bands got their sound from this record. Shame that it doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Silver Snail14 yet it somehow sticks around, finding those “heads” that immediately get it and fall in love with it. They weren’t necessarily a household name, in their prime, either!

The perfect background song for the story of tweek's composure at Summit 3. Thanks GRtr4sh
Didnt know the song b4 that video, grtr4sh always uses insanely good music, got so much from him
This might as well be his theme song now

"Adventure" and the Third Album from Big Star I never tire of hearing.
Another great album. I honestly go all the back to pet sounds or london calling but love this obscure gem.
@@tinycreature1749 Adventure is way underrated.
true except the lyrics are so bad they're distracting, embarrassing blink 182 level.
First time I heard this song was in the movie, Smithereens. Perfect!
Those drums are hypnotic. Just found this song on Spotify 1980s alternative lol. Never heard it before.

Seen them play 4 times since the late 80's- always good- a great band that is perpetually underrated.
AMAZING!!! I don't know how I have never heard of these guys before but holy shit, I'm in love!
Anybody recall the movie
"Smithereens?"
This was the opening song to the picture.
Instrumental in content,
In more ways than one
You are right...the girl stealing the sunglasses in the subway.
The Feelies had tracks all through "Smithereens". A perfect backdrop for that small budget gem of a film.
"Something Wild" was elevated by The Feelies too.
I bought the DVD on eBay recently just watched it
That movie was how I learned about these guys.
Oh and Richard Hell was why I watched the movie....

Came here to agree on the occasion of Anton Fier's untimely passing.
I was lucky to live in Hoboken, NJ in the late 80s and early 90s and saw these guys at least 10 times at Maxwells and other places in the area.
