The Feelies - What Goes On

- The Feelies are a rock band from Haledon, New Jersey. They formed in 1976 and disbanded in 1992 after having released four albums. The band reunited in 2008.
The Feelies rarely worked with outside producers and created shimmering soundscapes with multiple guitar layers that set them apart from most of the punk/new wave bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s. They frequently played at Maxwell's, a live music venue and bar restaurant in Hoboken during the 1980s, often on national holidays.
Although the Feelies never sold a great number of records, their influence was felt on the indie rock scene. Their first album, Crazy Rhythms (Stiff Records, 1980) was cited by R.E.M. as a major influence.[citation needed] The novelist Rick Moody has also cited the band as one of his influences (and allegedly based the punk band in his first book Garden State on them).[citation needed]
The Feelies may be the ultimate example of the best ever obscure band . Some of the most hypnotic rock music in 80s came from this band and they are still active.
Another great band with a few good, hypnotic songs was Dream Syndicate, like "Still Holding to You."
A different genre, but Rain Parade were very good also!
LOVE Rain Parade! And Dream Syndicate are still making great music.
Of course this hypnotic music came from the Velvet Underground. I LOVE the Feelies
The Feelies were great when I saw them open for REM at a Halloween Evening concert during the late 80s at the University of Vermont. I had one album and it was amazing! They had a sort of folk punk feel that complimented REMs music. Probably one of the most underrated bands of the decade!
RIP Lou Reed. Thanks for the amazing music and for influencing so much coolness such as this band.
The Feelies. What a great band! Still listening to them some 40+ years on...
Wow..they really nailed 'the ostrich' guitar sound! A truly worthy cover of one of Lou's greatest early songs. Fab.
Im new to discover The Feelies.. Imagine my delight to find they've covered one of my favourite songs.
One of the best covers ever. My second favorite band doing a song by my first!
Masterpiece...
I saw them play in Tucson in 1988. I like their tune “Away”
First time listen.. Good song.
Saw them at the Roxy in 1987 or 1988. Was 18. Loved the show. Caught the drumstick thrown into the audience. Such a great band.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the Feelies were not exactly a great band, but they made some GREAT music, including one of my favorite albums ever. How is it possible that I never heard these guys until my adult son turned me on to them? When is this world coming to?
What a great track!
Marie Pike :)
An example of where a cover is so much more than "just a cover"
Very much looking forward to a new album by The Feelies in 2017. See them live. Best band ever.
It did not disappoint.
I love the velvet underground, but the feelies is so good, too
one of my favorite college bands....
God Bless the Feelies :)
And all who sail with them
Tsugaheterophylla, Mo Tucker would stand whilst playing the drums so her beat was deliberately offbeat or "out of balance." This is a good cover and if you're loooking for other VU type bands then check out The Dream Syndicates Days of Wine and Roses
Saw them open for Lou Reed New York tour. Whadda show!!
Saw them so many times in Hoboken and NYC in the 90s...
Luv
FEELIES!
this was the first of their record I bought... listened to it for weeks over and over. Afterwards discovered the others. I hope they will tour europe any time soon...
Real and raw. Great Stuff!!! Hard to find in modern-day music. New music often sound like "plastic". Very unreal.
I just turned the volume to 11. i highly recomend it.
Awesome cover; respectful toward the original, but imbuing the song with the band's own spirit.....
Great band! Saw them live at Hurrah's in NYC, back in 1979. Thanks for posting.
excellent cover ....they do a great Dancing Barefoot cover too...and a PAINT IT BLACK cover
this is nice but I still prefer the original. Velvelt underground !!
goddamn it, this makes me want to start on my album all over again
yes! that rules! best cover!
So good.
Saw them last Summer. Super fun.
At time... (80s..) that band was a surprise to me.
Today i try to have all records that i find.
Its.....☺
That's great news about the re-releases and about time too!
awesome cover!
Great cover!
Yes, not bad--It sounds more like Foggy Notion (music) merged with What Goes On (lyrics)
i wish this song was on Classic Rock radio stations
Amazing
I just ordered them and have tickets to see them in Hoboken too
BON SANG!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, they've just re-released The Feelies first three albums, including their 1980 classic, "Crazy Rhythms". They're all terrific albums and trying to find them until now has been almost impossible. Thank God they're out!
Nice Lou Reed imitation. If I hadn't known it was by The Feelies I would have thought it was actually a demo by the Velvet Underground.
Bravo!
Thought it was a Beatles cover though.
I think i'm always falling down!
😎 🚬
@tjchicago
Blast from the past!
I have seen them several times, but at least 20 years ago.So they still perform?
BELLA canción.
Pleasant punk
Mercer and Million, literally unrecognizable in the pic at the start.
At the risk of anathema, I still maintain that this cover eclipses the original
June Hose I agree with you
I missed the reunion, where did they play?
They were awesome in concert back in the day
I can't believe I've got to my advanced years and only recently discovered this excellent band!? Always loved the Velvets and this is the 2nd band I've heard doing an excellent job of covering one of their tracks this week, The other being a f**king wonderful version of 'Pale Blue Eyes' by The Kills, which if you've not heard, I would strongly suggest doing so!Huge thanks for sharing this Guyitho, really like it a lot.
Can we not just lump The Feelies in as another Velvets. Sure, VU had a tremendous influence on them, but they evolved into so much more.
TheFizz40 v
They sound more like Television than Velvets to me
i was most disappointed with their '90/ or '91 release. Sorry if it's your kind of thing, but it didn't work for me. The vigour they had in previous incarnations isn't present (for me, anyway). Cconsidering they were such a great band, I'm open to re-experiencing their sound. Any suggestions ?
BON SANG!!!!
This a velvet underground cover. And a pretty damn good one at that
BON SANG
This is a Velvet Underground's cover, unlikely the one by Screaming Trees....
i love screaming trees
Tight. Methadone Velvet .
@DjangoMozart they continued to be awesome. look it up.
Miss Them*
Velvet's best version
+Margarito Pilots...YEP, this is a great cover.... I am going to see the Feelies in concert at the 9:30 club in washington DC tonight.....I've seen them perform live 2 others times
dork rock but good.
Kinda sounds like the Bongos...!
digital music age annoying sometimes. guess there's a rights issue cuz this has never been on shitty spotify (sorry musicians but unpopular opinion: my general comfort is more important than royalty disagreements and maybe musicians were making too much money before)
that last part was to the spotify triggered folks
snatcheroo kazoonheight 24
he sings like lou
Three people in youtube should get some musical education.
how? how is this good?
I'd hafta go w the YU original, but outside of the overly-repititious percussion it's another great track from a decade of mostly rubbish. WTF happened to them in '90 ?
Can't go wrong with a VU cover, but this is kind of weak. The backbeat is out of balance with the rest of the band, it's just annoying. Vocals are weak too. Overall it's colorless.
Tsugaheterophylla I kind of love it as always with the feelies theguitar solo is sublime
I'm thinking your ears are weak
Weak? Seriously? Oy vey.
one of mi fav new wave guitar bands
