All IT cares about is collabs. Expand, expand, expand, expand. It feels like there's just no substance to Bape anymore. Even after Nigo left, you could say Bape still had tons of potential. But they just dropped the ball time and time again. It's safe to say it's probably irreparable at this point. Whoever is in charge is out of touch artistically, or like you said, just doesn't care. With all the lackluster collabs and minimal evolution in design, they are simply milking the brand based off it's history and flex status at this point. I wonder how long they can keep it up.

To be honest Bape will never be what it was back in mid 2000s. The company clearly only cares about money and nothing else. It’s not what many of us signed up for. It will never have more iconic collabs with big artists like Kaws because who wants to work with a sellout brand? Nobody I’m still left scratching my head to why would Nigo do such a thing? But ever since the mastermind behind it all, Nigo left and the company bought by I.T Group, its pretty much an ubiquitous brand found at numerous big cities, with random collabs like Jaws? Don't get me wrong I like Jaws but it feels like Bape is running out of ideas, and collaborating with any brand or company that they can think off, in an effort to ensure they're on top of the streetwear chart. Basically, I just miss the old Bape that used to be rare and exclusive. This just my opinion so please don't roast or hate me lmao
Just bought a few T-shirts from the Shibuya store but they still had some heat. The collabs have been weak but I can’t fully agree with everything. Their Jackets/Hoodie game is still on point.
I’ve been wearing Bape for about 15years now. Got an OG shark hoodie, OG M65, various college tees. I still hunt for early pieces cus I love the idea behind them and how original and unique they were at the time. Comparing the Bape of today negatively to what it was is only a testament to Nigo’s early vision. It was so dope then that it still has a deep roots for many.
I went to Bape in Shibuya and what Reggie said is true. The whole store is full of Chinese mainlanders being loud and clearing the shelves. I bought a shirt just to say i went there, but the whole experience just turned me off the brand.

I agree with what you’re saying, but a part of me still likes what Bape does. I’m a kid at heart,I like crazy wacky stuff, and collaborations have gotten so popular across all brands. I like collaborations like Dragon Ball and Predator, because those give me nostalgia.
I hadn't given Bape a second thought until the UB's dropped at the beginning of the year - the last time I saw a Bape sneaker before that, it was on a clearance rack for 80% off next about 20 other pairs of those goofy looking pastel and neon ones they used to put out with the big star logo on the side.
I really like the way you explain your point of view. You really have done some great research. I'm glad my mate Shaun have introduced your Channel to me. He also said you took him on a fashion tour in Harajuku as Airbnb experiences. I would love to do that with you one day if I am in Japan. Sub'ed & keep up the great work mate!
I'm a bape fan , I own a few pieces and I'm adding to my collection. I like the Adidas trainers and the reebok ones too . The reebok are the most expensive footwear I own .
Aight I’m going to comment because it popped up as my recommended video. Bape died the moment it became hyped in the US. Hip hop made it cool for a short short minute but bape was soooooo much doper when it was British mob style mixed with the Japanese sensitivity. When nigo was hand printing these tees and rocking clarks with his Beatles hair cut. But then again, it made so much more money after it “died” to me. So this Barbie thing? I don’t think it’ll kill the brand. Fashion cycles come and go. I wouldn’t be surprised if bape collabs with supreme again in the next few years.
It’s sad to see how over saturated Bape is now. Growing up in the city and going to bape in 2010 and stuff was a lot of fun. It used to be a special sighting to see a bape hoodie, they would sell out, they were hard to get. The quality was way ahead of a lot of street wear brands, it was a really fun store to go check out down in SoHo. All the novelty from bape is gone. It’s just sad to see something I loved so much turn into a trash brand every little lame wears now-a-days. Wearing a bape hoodie is a sure way to let everyone around you know that you have no fashion sense and you’re a trend riding sheepish little hypebeast, even if you’ve been following the brand for over a decade, and appreciate the nostalgia of the brand and are just happy to be able to wear something you used to dream about being able to afford. (Btw it’s Jean Paul Goatee-yay. That’s how it’s pronounced)
I collect OG bape from around 2006 and earlier. I use to buy newer bape too, but I have to agree, bape is not anywhere near where it use to be back in those Nigo days, it’s a shame really.
I was let down with the DC Comics collab. They just went with the most barebones design and slap a Batman/Superman Logo on it. The best item in the group was the basic shirt logos in my opinion.
bape was one of the only hype brand i liked in fact bape was the only hype/streetwear brand that i would buy now i dont have the same love and there really aren't any other hype brands i like rather stick to the normal clothing brand e.g. adidas, nike ect
Fr it’s a Japanese brand😂 expect them to do different things, straight up there’s different ways to market in each country. They drop fire even if they’re underground or not, on god
Let's not forget that 5 years ago being called a hype beast was an insult. Today it's a compliment. Truthfully the nature of our culture is self defeating, Supreme is next to fall, the day they made a brick and sold it with great success was the point our culture began it's irreversible decline. Street wear was supposed to be a counter culture movement the hype beast movement killed it.
Bape sold to a Chinese company. They want to get max profit. Youre talking about sneaker culture stuff. When Babe sold, just consider it dead, or pre-post sale stuff. Nigo is a culture expert, so the expertise and discernment isnt there anymore. Easy as that.
I dont mind collabs with everyone, as long as you are taking it and making it unique and stamping your mark on it. If its just boring designs and stamping your brand.... its a waste.
U know u made it when u collab w Barbie Lol, I don’t collect Barbies but if I did this would be a must have. Barbie looks good in that Bape and it will also encourage females to wear it. This collab makes perfect sense to me, I don’t know why you’re hating on it? This will sell out and be a collectors item for Barbie & Bape fans. Bape has always been a little carefree and about bringing out your inner child so really nothing unexpected here. Not so much resale on Bape cause it’s so expensive but they still make some nice pieces.
The bastardization of bape reminds me on mastermind who do some of the same thing (with constant collars with everyone). The difference is that mastermind doesn’t shove its past in your face, reusing old and tired tropes and making us all tired of seeing the skull and crossbones. It’s gone from being a niche brand for those in the know and passionate about the culture to a brand that’s wanted due to its name only. Also, you know grown men gonna line up and reselling Bathing Barbies like Bearbricks.
But still, like yeezys that are also “dead”, they aren’t cheap. They aren’t going for thousands, but if you’re going to buy a shark hoodie or pair of yeezys, you’re gonna spend a few hundred bucks...far from being cheap. Until the stuff they release goes for retail (yes I know some does, but not all), I wouldn’t consider it “dead”, at least not yet.
Barbie as a brand is iconic as shit to be honest. This video is kinda wack. Nigo bape was lit but it's all still the same shit. They've been doing collabs for forever. The mario collab is trash but some people like it. Bape is heat and the barbie collab is dope and Bape is literally a collector's brand. The bapestas are the start of collectible footwear.

At least we will be able to look at Bape in the future as a good case study as to how to self destruct your popular celebrated international business
I agree with what you’re saying, but a part of me still likes what Bape does. I’m a kid at heart,I like crazy wacky stuff, and collaborations have gotten so popular across all brands. I like collaborations like Dragon Ball and Predator, because those give me nostalgia.
I wear the older collection or OG Bape I never bought the newer stuff.
the NBA babe was da best🤷♂️
I hadn't given Bape a second thought until the UB's dropped at the beginning of the year - the last time I saw a Bape sneaker before that, it was on a clearance rack for 80% off next about 20 other pairs of those goofy looking pastel and neon ones they used to put out with the big star logo on the side.
"super small text that nobody will read but it makes the image look way cooler." lol
Hot damn, that new intro is 🔥
Next video: Brands that are killing this era
Supreme
Stussy
Off white
Balenciaga
Gucci
Supreme did a porcelain baby, Don't act like they don't act a fool the way bape does
Supreme know how to pull it off though.
I really like Bape, they’re pissing me off
I'm a bape fan , I own a few pieces and I'm adding to my collection.
I like the Adidas trainers and the reebok ones too .
The reebok are the most expensive footwear I own .
They got a good marketing team if anything
The Bape x Audi collaboration was fire af
Aight I’m going to comment because it popped up as my recommended video. Bape died the moment it became hyped in the US. Hip hop made it cool for a short short minute but bape was soooooo much doper when it was British mob style mixed with the Japanese sensitivity. When nigo was hand printing these tees and rocking clarks with his Beatles hair cut.
But then again, it made so much more money after it “died” to me. So this Barbie thing? I don’t think it’ll kill the brand. Fashion cycles come and go. I wouldn’t be surprised if bape collabs with supreme again in the next few years.
Bapesta shoes(road, skull, crepestas) , Bapesta clothes, and early baby milk gear is really the only good shit I’ll buy
Skooty Hotsauce you like it more because common people couldn't afford it? Ok, I don't like you at all.
I still like it and I’m trying to save up for a hoodie atm but cmon, a wreck it Ralph Collaboration??? Wtf
I collect OG bape from around 2006 and earlier. I use to buy newer bape too, but I have to agree, bape is not anywhere near where it use to be back in those Nigo days, it’s a shame really.
new intro is clean
I was let down with the DC Comics collab. They just went with the most barebones design and slap a Batman/Superman Logo on it. The best item in the group was the basic shirt logos in my opinion.
Barbie lookin fresh
bape was one of the only hype brand i liked in fact bape was the only hype/streetwear brand that i would buy now i dont have the same love and there really aren't any other hype brands i like rather stick to the normal clothing brand e.g. adidas, nike ect
I like the Barbie x bape thing. It’s unique and has a cool contrast.
Love yo channel btw bro
Fr it’s a Japanese brand😂 expect them to do different things, straight up there’s different ways to market in each country. They drop fire even if they’re underground or not, on god
Dont see a difference between Supreme x Hotwheels and Bape x Barbie.
Only Bape I have ever had is a pair of Footsoldiers from 2000. Still have them but never wear them
Let's not forget that 5 years ago being called a hype beast was an insult.
I love your intro ❤
somehow thought reggie did this kinda topic bout bape be4
BAPE is, and will alwas be fire. My opinion. Ill be 70 years old in a shark hoodie. =)
A WTH on bape 10 years vs today is a very different video.
^
Not so much resale on Bape cause it’s so expensive but they still make some nice pieces.
what video program do you use?
The bastardization of bape reminds me on mastermind who do some of the same thing (with constant collars with everyone). The difference is that mastermind doesn’t shove its past in your face, reusing old and tired tropes and making us all tired of seeing the skull and crossbones.
It’s gone from being a niche brand for those in the know and passionate about the culture to a brand that’s wanted due to its name only.
Also, you know grown men gonna line up and reselling Bathing Barbies like Bearbricks.
How many vids did you do on bape
Bape pretty much hits or misses at this point, some are good, and some are pretty trash tbh 😬
What happened to Yums?
