    I will be interested to see how you mount the tail box. I bought the Harbor freight equivalent and am overall happy with it. I just wish it was easily removeable. Maybe watching the video you put out can help.

      We added a mount from SW Motech to the bottom of the case. Unfortunately the one we used is discontinued. It was the adapter plate for the Sys Bag 15: sw-motech.us/en/products/luggage/SysBags/adapter/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwq86wBhDiARIsAJhuphmSG3jVfnuvVhNCOuAz_UA4ZQzUqNmbuRMgsQ9ucu6h2q5_k2XMe80aAjnpEALw_wcB
      The alignment was perfect for mounting to the stock rack. Only one hole needed to be drilled for mounting the metal holding peg at the back of the rack.

      Thank you so much. We’ve learned a lot from our travels in Europe so it was nice to have the winter season to dial these KLRs in. Happy adventures back to you.

    Great choice, very reliable motorcycle.

    I hope your 2023 models do not have the over tightened steering head bearing issue like my 2023. It’s an easy fix but if you’re not aware of the issue look it up. Because the feeling you get at low speed is disconcerting. I thought I had a flat my first time. At 200 Kms. Best of luck. Just subscribed.

      Mine did have the overtightened steering head bearing problem. Fortunately resolved after buying a 30mm socket to remove the steering stem nut under the handlebars and removing the upper fork brace to get access to the overtightened lock nut. Backed it off a 1/4 turn and reassembled. Thanks for the best of luck and subscribing. A lot more mods to come…

    N-joy reading about your forays in UpShift - will be interesting to see how the KLR compares to the Beemers? Considering that you’re headed south they’ll probably be great in Central and So America. Highway miles in the states might suck tho? Had a gen 2 that treated us well, cost something like $4,200 then put another 6k in upgrades. 😂

      The BMW/Rotax engine is better all around: Less vibration, better fuel mileage, more horsepower. Similar torque on both. The choice on the Kawi came down to budget and support for South America. I too wonder how much we’ve put into the Kawi - perhaps a final video on the mods and costs once I finish this series of mod videos…

    Travis, your beard looks awesome! When are you coming to the central coast? You know you have a place to stay.

      Thanks so much! We may make it out to the central coast sometime late April - We’ll see how things go, but we’ll stay in touch.

    Big congratulation for stepping away from the herd mentality with the Kwacker - good luck with your onward travels

      Thanks. So far the KLRs are a great overland bike. They can be a bit heavy when loaded, but the budget price and ability to load ‘em up with gear is a great selling point.

    Are you going to complete the "doohickey" mod that so many KLR owners talk about?

    • @viajarMOTO
      @viajarMOTO  5 місяців тому +1

      Still on the fence about the doohickey - We don’t feel it’s something we need to do immediately since it’s a new bike. If we do decide to “do the doo” we’ll be sharing the process here on our channel.

      @@viajarMOTO I did mine and found a perfectly good OEM spring and lever. Mine was done around 7k miles with LOTS of highway time as I rode to both Key West and the Black Hills in the same year.
      For me, the must do mod is the Thermobob by Wattman. I have zero oil burning issues after all those miles above 5k RPM. It's s solid mod, easy to do, and not very expensive at all.

    • @viajarMOTO
      @viajarMOTO  5 місяців тому

      @@dw5523Good to hear. I imagine most of the springs are going to be okay. I may just do it after this riding season for some peace of mind since we plan to keep these mules well past 100,000 miles.

      @@viajarMOTO yeah, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I did it. I know more about my bike now. I just don’t think it’s the five alarm fire the internet makes it out to be. Good luck on your travels. I look forward to seeing you two progress along the journey.
