Andy, don't forget the Julie B was ballasted down to fit under section 6 as it hung from the VB. After section 6 is on and welded, and pulled from under the VB, they will pump tons of water out of her ballast tanks and "re-float" her to a different draft. Thanks for the videos, and kudos to the tug crews. Jon

I watched the marinelogcom chopper video from the 5th & in it u can really see the lines holding the VB10000. Good visual of why those tugs on the sides can’t get in too close.

Thank so much for sharing that there is chopper video. I looked them up and you are so right those lines make it very difficult for them for sure! It is really incredible to see the site from above.

I wouldn't be shocked if the final section were placed on the Julie B. for the trip to Louisiana also. As far as those tug boat skippers I've watched them move things around Port of Fouchion for years and they are some of the best.

Capt Andy, it was my good fortune to bump into you yesterday at Demere Grill and to be able to thank you in person for your amazing video work. It motivated me to head down to GA St after lunch at low tide to see if anything was going on. Boy, did I get an amazing show!!! Those tug captains made putting the loaded Julie B under the VB 10,000 look so easy. I was clapping from shore as you were clapping from your boat. Awesome video - thanks again!

Great job of coordination to slip the Julie B with all of the tugs and crew of the VB! Will they lower section 6 to the Julie B as she sits in the water? Will they wait to raise the water lever of the Julie B once section 6 is load and it's cleared the VB? Curious as to how the dance will continue. Amazing to watch. Thanks Capt Andy! Looking forward to the next video :).

all drama on them there high seas - loving it !
'a lot of sail on the Julie B', them there tug boyz will just handbrake turn it into position
cant' be easy to control when the barge has none of it own driving force other then the wind
    hats off to them tugs
Hey Captain Andy, what you going to do when this is all over
will you do a re-enactment of the whole thing, maybe sink a kayak (full of 4000+ dinky cars) on its side along the shore, build your own version of the VB and take two years to cut it up and shift it - haha i'll watch it (must include plenty of hairy ass scratching/thinking)

Prior to sailing the Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) will review the Julie B's stability calculations and inspect the seafastenings to ensure they are secure. The MWS will also have reviewed and approved the calculations for the design of the seafastenings, and inspected and approved all welding on the seafastenings. The MWS will also set the weather conditions that the tow can depart in. On tows of this nature, suitable ports along the route of travel are identified as "ports of refuge" that the tow can divert to if extremely adverse weather is forecast.

@@1rembo69 Even if it is top heavy, so long as the buoyancy calculations are in order, it won't be able to roll enough to capsize. Ocean liners are top heavy but they don't capsize very often! Have a "google" on ships' center of buoyancy and center of gravity for an explanation

Hopefully (fingers crossed) they will ask you to go out on the tug with them for the last section to come into port. It is only what you deserve after the Sterling effort you have put in to documenting the salvage of this vessel from the morning she went over to 24 months down the line where it is finally all off to scrap.

You know what worries me watching this is the tug Caitlin? Next to the barge and under that section of GR. What-ifs come to mind. What is something gave way and that section fell on that beautiful tugboat? I can only suppose and assume these guys know their jobs and that HS Risk was considered.

Get a little excited there bud? Bet they weren't expecting a cheering section. Yea after punching a hole in that barge they had better get it right the second go round. That looked like a BIG hole too. I just hope those sections are secured but good. If they are going to fall off I would hope it would be in the open ocean and not in the sound. Can't wait to see the whole mess sail off into the sunset...
