  • In this episode, we're not so much furthering the story as we are just exploring all the fun easter eggs there are to find in the time pod. Including one that was supposed to be in the game, but was taken out (and put back in by NewRisingSun).

    In case you didn't catch the reference from American culture, the "this is Roger on Ortega" is a reference to an anti-drug commercial from the 90s "this is your brain on drugs."

    The "Room removed for Legal Purposes" is from King's Quest VI. It's the back part of the Castle of the Crown outside of Cassima's room towards the end of the game. The music that plays in the background in that room is also from the King's Quest VI soundtrack. Looking forward to more!!!

    Hmm the Room from KQ6 was interesting. From completing QFG1/HQ1 I can guess that the one thing on the North Wall above the ZZ top guys that was Earl Sinclair from the TV Show Dinosaurs could have been an Easter Egg enemy based off of the Enemy from QFG1/HQ1 VGA called a Sarus and they removed it due the fear of being sued by the IP of who ever owned the show. Considering the VGA remake of QFG1 was released during Dinosaurs TV show run on TV.
    Edit: Correction it seems like the Earl Sinclair Easter Egg in QFG1 seems like a random event just like the Batmobile in KQ2.

  • @orinokonx01
    @orinokonx01 5 років тому +1

    Also, another comment.
    I love how you know so little about the other Sierra franchises. I am exactly the same. My Dad installed Kings Quest 1 (EGA... was there ever a VGA remake? I presume so?) on a couple of our machines when I was a kid, but honestly it never caught on with me. Space Quest is all I've ever loved from Sierra, honestly. It's like... I only think Sierra existed so they could produce Space Quest and all that it contains. Is that weird? Probably. I mean, so many people praise the Kings Quest series, and the Leisure Suit Larry franchise got a recentish addition (I think? I heard something...) but I think I am absolutely obsessed with Space Quest. It was such an important part of my childhood, I don't think I would be the same person if it didn't exist. SQ1 EGA was the first computer game I ever played, and I owe so much of my life to it...
    Anyway, I am rambling again. On a public forum no less. That's fun! Back to the playthrough (and 3D modelling...)

    • @spacequesthistorian
      @spacequesthistorian  5 років тому +1

      Yeah, Estros and the Galaxy Galleria may seem like reprieves. If you wait around too long on Estros, though, a pair of Sequel Policemen show up. It is possible to avoid them, but really tricky. Maybe I should show that in the wrap-up video. As for the Galaxy Galleria, you're relatively safe unless you trigger the Sequel Policemen's arrival in the arcade too soon, or if you try to leave the way you came in.

    There will come a time, when you will long for more of the Sierra Adventure Experience, (SAE) and you will want to continue it. Space Quest may no longer be enough, when that time comes. I recommend the other Sierra games, like King's Quest. They may not be your chalice of Keronian Ale, but they will do the trick, I assure you. Don't forget the remakes, which are awfully good, too. In fact, because of the remakes, I went back to the KQ series. So, I speak a bit from experience. You might like Police Quest, as well. PQ II was my introduction to Sierra. Then, my friend, a BBS enthusiast at the time, introduced me to Space Quest. I have no idea where he found the disk he used to play it with.

    • @spacequesthistorian
      @spacequesthistorian  4 роки тому

      I appreciate the sentiment, but I very much doubt I will. King's Quest is not fun for me - I've tried all of them, and I can't stand the high-and-mighty fantasy shit. The same kinda goes for Police Quest. I'm not opposed to doing videos on them, but I would end up making a lot of fun of them and probably offend a lot of their fanbases. I think it's better if I stay away. 😊

      @@spacequesthistorian Completely understandable. If you can't get into the stories, then it would be fruitless. Also, it wouldn't make sense on this channel, since the channel fits a particular niche, and the other games would just cause confusion - unless you made an X-Quest historian alter ego. A hostile take might be interesting, though. Perhaps there could be an "Angry Sierra Game Nerd".
      Of course, I was thinking more for personal enjoyment, than necessarily review material.

      @@jeremygeorgia4943 I have played many other games on this channel, so consistency or sticking to brand is not something I'm good at. 😏 I did in fact play bits of all the King's Quest games a while back for charity. Even had King Graham himself, Josh Mandel, in the voice chat with me. But I honestly couldn't see myself sitting down and playing through a King's Quest game for my own enjoyment. I made a mistake once of playing Anna's Quest on this channel and the abject bitterness I felt towards the game comes across very sharply, especially in the later episodes. That felt a bit unfair to the creators of the game who obviously put a lot of time and effort into making it.

    Great video friend... as for the robot it can be wiring or some sort of oil going out of him instead of blood? I don't know I like to think like that when it is like this. Anyway came when danny played III (since the start of this series) and have been enjoying it so far. Please do keep up. Pura Vida!

      Earl Sinclair was in the QfG1 remake as a random Easter Egg encounter, but I don't think they were forced to remove it - I'd like to think Jim Henson wouldn't do that sort of thing - strange that it's in that room.

    • @spacequesthistorian
      @spacequesthistorian  7 років тому

      A quick look at UA-cam would suggest that Earl is still in QFG1. So I have no idea what he's doing in the Room Removed For Legal Reasons. Maybe, at the time of SQ4, they *thought* they would have to take him out, but left him in anyway?

      I try to keep the vids under 30 minutes, if possible. It seems like a happy medium between too short and overlong. I do make exceptions for first and last episodes of a series. I guess that was a roundabout way of saying "no, not really, but thanks for asking." :P

    as for the room removed for legal reasons: the dinosaur in the shirt is Earl from the "Dinosaurs" sitcom which ran in the early 90s. its as odd as the premise sounds. Droids is a word copyrighted by Lucasfilm (maybe Disney by now). and the red/white checkerboard pattern on the slime chow bags is/was the dog food Purina's copyrighted logo. probably why those 3 were taken out of the games

    • @notsyzagts7967
      @notsyzagts7967 Рік тому

      You're wrong on the droids one. The copyright in question was from the "Toys 'R Us" store chain which was still quite big at the time.

      Cyborgs can have blood and they can enjoy gum - although these mouths look fully robotic so I dunno. Apparently they can still forget time codes too, even with the "upgrades".

      +Magus Marquillin I would imagine gum would cause all sorts of havoc if they "ingest" it and it gets stuck in their circuitry. But we're just speculating at this point. We'd need to get ol' Sludgy-boy to release his schematics.
