How to survive the Kiss of Death in Space Quest II

- Space Quest II has a particularly nasty d*** move involving a xenomorph with big, juicy, red lips and... you know what I'm talking about. (If not, I'll explain in this video.) But did you know you can actually make it off the asteroid, even if you've been caught by the alien? I'll show you!

I can't help imagining how cool it would've been, if they'd made it possible to lure the xenomorph over to the cell with the big burly guy and have him pound the xenomorph's head in.
This is so incredibly nerdy and I absolutely love it. I also love that in this video and the last that you've apparently found a way to use every file in your "Funny Pain Sound Effects" folder.
I never knew about the running around the asteroid to avoid the robot! I've always completed the game by typing the command to push the button in on the previous screen and then typing 'get in pod' real real fast...
Me too, I thought that was the intended way.
I played this off of 5.25" floppies back in the day and honestly? That's how I thought you beat it. I never knew you could loop around to the other side until today XD
Ha, I never knew that you had to do the full chase lap around the station. I always did it via the semi-cheesy strat (they've got text for it, so it's clearly intended, heh) of just hitting the button and diving in.
I got in the pod that way once, just to see if I could, but I had know idea you could avoid the unplanned pregnancy going into labor, though I have wondered.
...
How great would it be if space quest 2 had a hidden character export if you were still carrying the alien at the end, and the SQ3 installer would scan the computer for that file and let you play all the way to where you ask Ken Williams for a job, only for the lethal birth to go down right then and there with Ken looking horrified and the Two Guys high five each other as the ultimate trolls? And all through the game you were wondering how it knew to keep calling you the character name you chose in SQ2.
That'd be great. Yeah.
I'd play an alternate version of Space Quest III where Roger is accompanied by his alien love child lol
The facehugger shows up in SQ5 and is always VERY friendly...
It never occurred to me to try running the full lap to get away from the robot, always did it this shorter way. Guess I'm not alone on that one reading through the comments. I didn't know this would avoid the alien death though, thanks for your effort on the thorough explanation 👍
I was right about it. I was able to beat the timer on Normal speed. Took a lot of effort but I was able to do it

I did this, kek. I was hoping for the burster scene when in the pod (part of the fun of SQ2 was holding out for special death scenes) but it didn't happen.
Thanks for this vid!!
Simple way to cheese it - avoid the fucker in the first place :D When you get off the shuttle, head to the right elevator. This puts you on the left side of Level 3. Head to the right and go down to L4. Head back to the left and then down to L5. Go to the closet and get whatever the fuck is in that closet (I never remember what is in what closet) and do not go any further. Go back to the left and back up to L1.
yeah, my brother did this on one of our playthrus
I didn't know you could loop to avoid the robot - I thought you had to dart back into the vacuum tube tunnel to get past the robot.
That's how I played it as well. Did the "push button", ran back to the vacuum tube, and then went back and "enter pod".
Even though I always got into the pod ASAP I never thought you could escape without a chest-burst, makes you wonder what SQIII could have been...
🤣

Sorry, you're dead. (L)oad, (R)estart, (Q)uit"
@@spacequesthistorian LOL omgosh that would be the ultimate SQ2 way to have its final (eggplant) move
Nice. Never played SQ2. Played a little 1, which was annoying, but absolutely loved Space Quest 3.
In Stargate SG-1 it's established cyrogenic sleep will kill alien parasites. So import that headcanon here and there you go.
The end music is pretty rad.
Thank you! Me and my pal JPS did that tune for the SQ3 3D remake. If you want an mp3, it's free: error47.bandcamp.com/album/space-quest-iii-3d-remastered-and-expanded-soundtrack
Love the intro!
Had no idea u were supposed to run a lap to escape robot. I always pre typed and playedbthat part in slow.
I was thinking it would be triggered by crossing a control line and skipping it would be because there was a gap you could get through,
That would also have been a very valid assumption. But it turns out they did shit the tough way.
Wait. People go all the way around to dodge the robot? I've always just gone back out to the glass tube, waited a moment, then gone back into the hallway and legged it.
I'm looking through your playlists and kinda squinting at a wall of stuff struggling to find a playlist with retrospectives for each Space Quest game...I didn't have luck finding it
Here you go! ua-cam.com/play/PLeuPHRWonRSRtxG3vCJ6Stngp6cSw20Iz.html
@@spacequesthistorian I already found that playlist and watched some of them but your editing was so tight that I assumed those ones must not be the retrospectives. Maybe you know so much about Space Quest that you're sharing us your wisdom that Space Quest games actually only need/deserve 8 minutes of retrospective, and that's part of the irony of the greatness of Space Quest. I'm not an expert in Space Quest so I can only guess.
