I made Roger Wilco pin on buttons years ago when I worked menial labor. One with him pushing a vacuum and one of the vacuum itself from SQ6. I remember during the whole 5 years I had those pinned to my work uniform that only one random person I ran into knew who Roger Wilco was while I was on the job; that was a good day.

Roger wasn't napping in a closet.
He was "resting up for the big battle" as Roger said in his interview for Space Pistons magazine vol. 4 (which I still have my original copy of).

This is still one of my favourite Sierra Adventure games ever, despite the archaic nature of it, and I prefer it over the VGA version. Mostly because I didn't like what they did with Kerona. In the original, it's this yellow desert planet with lots of cliffs, and it was really charming and beautiful. In VGA however, it's pitch-red and you walk on a huge skeleton. It just kind of took away a lot of the charm. But that doesn't matter, the point is that I love the AGI version of it, and it's my second favourite of the bunch!

    • @spacequesthistorian

The VGA version was also made behind The Two Guys' backs, and Scott Murphy is still very bitter about that.

It got trickier as the series went on, but I did manage to cover all of the games in under 10 minutes. Apart from SQ6, which is *just over* 10 minutes (10:13), and that's only because I mention the fan games at the end.

I knew that about the flatulence wordplay, and I didn't even speak intermediate english back then. But it took me a long time to find out the Blues Brothers were no singers, just actors. All their best known songs are covers of classics, and they were called Blues because those were their last names in the movie.

I think I hit the jackpot! I found your channel after finding a backup of your Space Quest Geocities page while browsing on oocities.org. I decided to see what you were up to nowadays and found the channel and now I’m being educated about Space Quest, which I had admittedly never played. You’ve got a new fan, though! It makes me happy to see that you’re still doing what you love all these years later.

I remember I got stuck in this game because I couldn't pick up the translator in the Arcada. I saw it was there in the closet, but I couldn't figure out what word to use. I think it's officially a TRANSLATOR GADGET but neither word came to me as a kid while playing. Luckily my parents bought me one of those nice "strategy" books in which you could reveal the answers to only the select parts that you needed, by using a special highlighting pen. I really wanted to figure out the rest on my own.

I don't know why but I didn't realise you could kill both the spider droid and Orat in the cave in the original release. I thought it was added as an alternative solution in the VGA remake (like how they added the magnet to cheat at the slot machine)

    • @jhhoward

    • @spacequesthistorian

Ah, yeah... The code is on the cartridge, and if you never got that (perhaps by not going back into the datacart library and having the encounter with the scientist), then you have no idea where you're even supposed to find it. In hindsight, having the scientist dude show up after you've already been in the room once is kind of a dick move.

4:08 Crushing the spider didn't seem so terribly hard. I think I used save/restore to get to a state where the spider was almost there (when he starts walking southwest) then used F7 a bunch of times from that state to quickly try again.

@@spacequesthistorian This mix is actually pretty cool.
Not all songs/mixes are gonna be the best but I will say this is better than those old crappy mixes I made back on Ejay software.
The simple synth and bass is pretty enjoyable, it sounds serious but pretty relaxing at the same time. Not exactly like chillhop but a more ominous sci-fi chill mix.

@@xRocketzFighterx Thank you! I pretty much wrote them to teach myself to play bass. I had borrowed a friend's bass and had this idea for an electronic group where the only "real" instrument was an electric bass (for some reason). I actually found a dude who was a proper bass player to play on the tunes, but we never got around to recording him, so that's me playing bass for the first time on those tracks.

Depending on the version, you can get 205, 207, or 254 points. It involves getting the emergency kit twice; traveling in the trunk and then entering the vent system; and getting the second grenade. 254 points is via a bug where you keep shooting Sariens and losing points past zero.
