    Excellent video. I really enjoy your work. I bought the pdf version. I love spreadsheets so I built one to run parts of the game. In combat, I only have to type in two figures. One for the hit location and one for the damage. On the combat tracker, I only need to choose the monster from a drop down menu and it will fill in the rest of the tracker. The trickiest part was developing the correct formulas to take monster abilities into account. The Adventurer sheet is also largely automated and I also have incorporated the mapping so don't need to draw a map. I thought about uploading the spreadsheet to BGG but not sure many would want to use it. I still roll the dice and your video, has reminded me there is particular satisfaction in playing with physical components. Didn't mean to turn a comment into a saga. Thanks again for the pleasure your hard work gives to we gamers.

      @mdcs1992 Thanks for the comment and explanation of all you’ve done for the game. Personally I don’t like any technology with my gaming but I see why people do and this game in particular does have a lot of micromanagement that would be nice sometimes not to have to do.

    Thank you. After watching this and Rob Tabletop's recent play through, I've downloaded the v2.2 rules to give this a go. I don't have the dungeon mapping stuff so I'm going to houserule using some Atmar's decks and use a percentile to detetmine to the room colour

      Cool. One thing he does which isn't great is to spread out new rules into other books... There may be a place online that collects the rules that aren't in the base game and if so, you might want to look that up so you can use some--but not all--of them in the base game. Even without them, it's a neat system, one that I've enjoyed more than Four Against Darkness (to name one game to which it has been compared).

    A bit late to the party on this video, but as an ex-D&D DM and now board game collector, I'm drawn to the physical tiles and counters of the Mapping add-on.
    I'm wondering how much this limits the randomness of the gameplay, as the physical tiles will only contain a fixed number for room colours and have each will have only a set number of exits.
    I wonder if it's possible on a large dungeon to use up all of one colour tile ( say red). so for the rest of the adventure, will have no further fixed encounters?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  3 роки тому +1

      I suppose that could happen but the game itself is both programmed (in the sense of you're doing quests and are likely to end the quest before running out of those tiles) as well as very open-ended so if you were just playing a random mega dungeon you could do what you wanted regardless of the tile color. Make your own table, for example, to dictate whether there is an encounter or not.

    when you're not drawing the map, how does one "save" their game if they need to stop playing mid-dungeon?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  2 роки тому +1

      Not sure exactly what you are asking when you say “drawing the map”- do you mean just when you are playing? I presume the same way you would “save” a board game-by leaving it out. If you didn’t have the space or the time between sessions was too long, you could always photograph the map and keep the tiles used in their own baggie for easier restoration.

    • @aarongelb9793
      @aarongelb9793 2 роки тому +1

      @@GeekGamers01 I meant that if you don't play with the mapping game components, and are simply drawing the map out on the paper map grid, its seems easy to "save" if you have to put the game away, because everything is written on paper with pencil and you can just pick back up. With the mapping cards, like you said, it seems you have to keep it set up or take a picture? I was wondering if there was an official way to save a game mid delve when using the board game components to this game. Sorry for the confusion.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  2 роки тому +1

      It’s like a board game in that way. Leave it out. Photograph it if you need to put it awa my. I’m not sure what else you’d do.

  • @TheDungeonDive
    @TheDungeonDive 5 років тому +1

    What would you suggest buying to have the most pleasant experience with his game?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  5 років тому +4

      Hmmm. Really depends on what “pleasant” is to you. I’ve really enjoyed the tiles and tokens BUT (as you know) I’m not a minis person. For someone who is, the absence of them would be more pronounced than with just pen and paper.
      I’d start with the free download and see how you like it. My only advice on that would be to house rule the early training missions so you aren’t always encountering the same monsters, as that gets boring. Playing a few encounters will give you the sense of whether adding physical components would be a benefit to you.
      The “choose your own adventure” module is also great for getting a ready-made narrative that has more of an RPG feel than any other printed material in the CYOA genre as far as I know.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  5 років тому +2

      And... if you are going to purchase something I would consider the main book plus the adventurer’s companion, as the rules in that for quick starting a character with experience are quite useful-allowing you to skip the 5 training quests if you wish. (Tho even if you use quick start character creation I would do a sample lower level room exploration just so you know how things work.)

    You’re not the only one with bad luck. My character completely died on the very first training dungeon. Due to a combination of poor armour. Extremely high rolls for enemy encounters, low damage rolls when I was able to hit enemies. (Which I seemed to have very little luck with) and high power attacks from enemies (and of course failing to escape).
    Thankfully so far my 2nd hero has been doing much better.
    I did find it better to slightly modify the initial character creation by rolling for weapons and armour first before selecting the experience scores. (Probably not supposed to but i didn’t want another hero to die)

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  4 роки тому

      Yes some modifications to the rules are in order. It was fun, maybe, initially to struggle with a character like that but it doesn’t make the prospect of going back to the game with a different character as enticing

    Isn't it better using card then rolling? I have this idea in my head but by this way you can't encounter a room twice or more just one time by game as like you roll for room... The same thing for the other stuff like geographic feature, monster and so on....

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  5 років тому

      Pierre Abou Naoum You could encounter a monster as much as you wanted if you put the tokens back. Personally I like the fact that I won’t see duplicates but to each his own. It’s true you can’t go through rooms more than once, however. The geographic tile overlays have two of each so you can get those more than once.
      Personal preference obviously on whether or not this way of playing the game feels like an enhancement. To me it definitely does.

    • @pierreabounaoum3713

      @@GeekGamers01 actually for me too but when I thought about this I mean make tiles. I think the publisher do this in purpose by making us roll for duplicate rooms and so on. When I see your video I confused ... That's all. If this what he want from the beginning he can just say oh guys when you encounter the same room reroll...I don't know...and that's why I don't make rooms as tiles...
