it's so cute seeing younger girls play!! im a sophomore on a varsity high school team and i remember working my butt off on my approach, it was my biggest struggle. it just takes practice!
I've been coaching everything from 6th grade to Junior college level and I realize one of the best things that work is making the kids watch the videos and they really pick up what they need to do.
Even though I played volleyball, I had a bit of trouble coaching my 3 daughters on hitting. I just did it and had a hard time breaking it down for how to teach someone. I've read books and watched other players and never really got a simple, solid breakdown that worked. This is outstanding, though. Thank you for sharing this. Wish I had seen it when they were all younger. -Sean
tbh this channel is really great. you could actually learn from this. I learned how to under and over hand serve, pass from this channel and it showed really good results in my playing. 😃
This is glorious, been searching for "high school volleyball drills practice" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Renndrew Volleyball Victimless - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.
These coaching tips seem to be easy and fun for kids ! I like it. Footwalk practice involve group work . And throwing the tennis ball will not bring on failure of hitting which make kids frustrated.
Thank you! What would recommend for full hour practice drills for 5th graders returning to volleyball after not playing for 9 months? Rotation of serving, passing back and forth, setting and return? I'm a volunteer coach with nothing but community fun volleyball. I want them to learn correctly, but also want them to have fun. I know that I've neglected the footwork and love the drill where they switch out being the person being jumped over for the right/left at the end. Will definitely be using this. I really appreciate your explanations as well as the drills. Thank you!
I take pool noodles, and cut them length wise into strips, then lay them down on the floor for the athletes to hop over instead of placing a person on the floor. I get them at the dollar store around spring time. An inexpensive training tool. Our club teaches almost the exact same way. Some of our ters are different, but all of the technique is very similar. Good work coach!
Easy and sharp I've enjoyed it. The girls still have a lot of time to learn the correct tecnique, that is far away to be this one but this is an easy way to teach hitting like a natural thing thanks.
im having volleyball tryouts and im scared cause i dont think ima make the team someone give me tips pleaseeeeeee!!!!! i only have 2 more days tell they pick the 12 players
I like this video a lot!!! I think that it is equally important though to show your kids how to land properly though. Tendinitis or Jumper's knee is a common flare in the knee because of kids not landing the correct way. I like to emphasize "coming to balance" when my kids land.
Good job. Just a small advice. I have my hitters jump up and catch the ball with both hands above their heads. Saves them from getting bruises on the forehead. But I am sure both work.
You need that to strengthen your physique.. and as you grow, you will thank your coach today because he help you improve your strength and stamina in playing volleyball.. just dont cheat the training, its for you and your team am sure of that..
What controls the direction of your hit? Is it shoulder being square to target or follow through. And where should the ball be positioned when hitting? Is it in the center, above your head or off center so arm movement is straight?
Very inspiring!!! Lots of new teaching methods which are effective and fun!!! But I want to ask, for beginners, are they know what to do with their arms for spiking to ball after they jump up just by following these step you suggest? Coz I did not see you have teach them how should their arm spike after they jump up. Love this video, thanks so much:)
That's the easy part. However, it would have been good to add that demo as well as discuss where a lefty should end up facing when he/she hits the ball from the left side.
I teach it in multiple steps. I start with pressure on the left leg after which I make them step right-left. No jumping yet, so I can focus on the position of their feet. after that I continue with a jump and make them throw a tennisbal over the net. When this is technically correct I start adding the first left step. I teach 11/12 year olds and within 4 training hours this goes perfectly. In every step I make them clap their hands.
the facing the setter idea is Mainly for hitters who are hitting cross. if they go for line hit the will be more prone to back injury do to the amount of hip twisting they do. TENNIS BALL IDEA IS AMAZING THOUGH
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I dont have ally of experience with volleyball but I want to try out for my team and I'm confused as to what the difference is between a hit and a spike....hehe sorry (bte I know you need to practice for tryouts I am currently looking for volleyball camps near me)
***** Oh it was awesome! The coaches there were super nice, and by the end of one week,(each day being 4 hours with a lunch break), I could play a full game of volleyball :D
Have you played the game? The reason you turn your left leg slightly inwards so you are facing the setter is precisely to convert your forward momentum into vertical power by loading your legs. If you don't do that then your forward momentum remains forward when you actually want to go up at that point. Also, your choice of attacks is determined by the angle at which your hand strikes the ball. If you telegraph your attack vector by changing your body angle, any good blocker will read that, ROOF
It depends what position you play. Outside, wait until the setter has set the ball and is out of her hands before you go. Be prepared to wait longer if the set is really high. Middle, for a normal set, wait until the setter has set the ball. But, for quicks follow the ball. Right side, wait until the ball is at its highest point.
i'm going into my freshman year and tryouts are next month 🤞 I was on the varsity team for 8th grade last year but we did baddddd. At least i have experience though lol. wish me luck!
My doubt is about the shoulders line of the spiker. Shoulders would be towards outside if setter sets behind her so i think it's hard to read the ball whith this position... Would it change the spiker's positioning in the moment of spike? Thanks! ;)
I'm about to be freshman w: tryouts next week.. I'm a middle blocker/hitter... for those who made a volleyball team or have any useful tips ....can you guys please help me out 😫???
well for serving, make sure to pull your elbows back (i liek to think of it as a bow and arrow), and your toss should be in front of you not on top of you. If you keep your arm straight in front of you and toss that shouldn't be a problem. Hitting, well it's all momentum and timing. when the ball hits the apex (highest point) start approaching. I do the three step approach (as did this video). If you're a righty it's left right left. My right foot is out first, and when i take my first step i start swinging my arms back lol I hope i helped a little bit, im not that great at explaining haha
Guys make sure you get your footwork down and armswing down! the most difficult thing for me is timing the approach, i can crank it, but not without good timing. Muscle memory guys!
existe varias tecnicas para la entrada a remate , pero sin duda esta es la mas rara que he visto debido a que o involucra los musculos de la espalda y piernas...
I bust my legs wide open, and I'm not saying one infront of another in my jump but i still manage the steps and to hit properly and have enough power... it looks funny, but is it bad?
it's so cute seeing younger girls play!! im a sophomore on a varsity high school team and i remember working my butt off on my approach, it was my biggest struggle. it just takes practice!
I've been teaching junior high kids to hit for twenty years, and this is the neatest, best teaching progression I've seen. Very creative!
I've been coaching everything from 6th grade to Junior college level and I realize one of the best things that work is making the kids watch the videos and they really pick up what they need to do.

Thank you Coach. I’m helping some kids with the basics and learning myself at the same time.
Hands down this is the best hitting explanation for beginners. Thank you!!!

You are an excellent coach. That was one of the best instructional videos I have seen across a variety of sports.
Thank you so much for your content! Just started coaching younger girls and it’s taking some time for me to go back to super basic drills!
I like that you explain things easy for every age group can understand and follow.
thanks. my coach isnt teaching us anything. shes basically just picking her favorites and praising them while she yells at us.
ur amigo sound like my team
Literally my middle school coach
This was very useful. I needed to break things down a bit for my beginners and you have given me some good ideas.
Thanks coach.
In 7 minutes I learnt techniques that I was never taught during a couple of years of training.
Still holds up 10 years later! Thanks Coach!
This video is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm going to do volleyball next year so this was helpful for drills that I can do with my coach
It is a great video for teaching the correct step of spiking.
Amazing drills! And they’re FUN!
Fantastic stuff. About to run a session in a bit for beginners and this is ideal. Much love from the UK.
loved all the steps. Great instruction.
Easy and sharp I've enjoyed it. The girls still have a lot of time to learn the correct tecnique, that is far away to be this one but this is an easy way to teach hitting like a natural thing thanks.
Excelente, muy didáctica la Miss. Felicitaciones.
im having volleyball tryouts and im scared cause i dont think ima make the team someone give me tips pleaseeeeeee!!!!! i only have 2 more days tell they pick the 12 players
How did it go
Diana0134 same in summer ill be doing a tryout
Diana0134 Come on I wanna know how did it go
Me too I'm trying out varsity and my hitting has not been up to par after I had surgery so I'm trying to get back my muscle memory
I did too but i got anxiety and quit
Emily this is a very good teaching technique thanks for sharing.
Thank you I have gym everyday this will help me a lot.
Great stuff. Will work on it with my daughters (who are much older!).
The best training video, with each step... Awesome...
This has been very helpful. Thank you very much.
great video. helpful tips for coaching youth and beginners
Love your video, it's very helpful. Hope you bring out more videos showing more techniques.
Great video and ideas. Thanks for sharing.

Good very good step by step moves.
Absolutely ingenious. That jumping over the partner literally forces them to do it properly.
Excellent teaching
This was fantastic! Thank you so much!
Good job. Just a small advice. I have my hitters jump up and catch the ball with both hands above their heads. Saves them from getting bruises on the forehead. But I am sure both work.
i want her as a coach my coach is so mean and makes us do push ups and burpees and suicid runs but i guess it works bc we don't mess up
Do your best and find a better team if you can
Why would you do that :D Whishy washy coaches who only train what is fun and neglect the core strenght and fundamentals aren't making a team better..
lol ify but i train badminton but vball is my fave tbh
Denise R I just joined the grade 6 and 7. Boys volleyball team and our coach makes the whole team do burpees if someone misses
You need that to strengthen your physique.. and as you grow, you will thank your coach today because he help you improve your strength and stamina in playing volleyball.. just dont cheat the training, its for you and your team am sure of that..

I found this super helpful although I wish you had a left handed guide. I know it's opposite but just seeing it would help.
That's the easy part. However, it would have been good to add that demo as well as discuss where a lefty should end up facing when he/she hits the ball from the left side.
Awesome information!
Very good for the new players and learners
Excellent video 👏🏼
That helped very much the technique for the jumping over the person to do ur approach is very helpful (:
This was really helpful. Thanks
This helps me a lot for my tryout
Awesome!! well done coach.
i love this basic skills in spiking
I’ve been doing “right, left right” the ENTIRE TIME. Do I need to fix it?
Alex Smith if you’re left handed then stick w it if not follow the left right left
Yes
She’s so nice! I want a coach like that ;( I’m thinking of trying out for volleyball next year...I didn’t go for this year cause I chickened out
Big help.
This is so cool...You're really good teacher ^^
I whis I had a coach like you... ♥
Awesome coach
this is really good and helpful but they don't have any leg power
I teach it in multiple steps. I start with pressure on the left leg after which I make them step right-left. i will try this with my boys. .. high school team... but we need to go back to basics....
Yes, footwork is most important thing
Nice coaching.
Greeting from Indonesian.🖐️
Great explication
Mam u r a great teacher
Awesome! Thanks!

Finally, if you apply this theory to a right-side hitter (from zone 2), would they have to turn their back to the setter? Or reverse their footwork?
This is perfect!!!
This video is amazing! Great drills and a cute instructor to boot! lol
the facing the setter idea is Mainly for hitters who are hitting cross. if they go for line hit the will be more prone to back injury do to the amount of hip twisting they do. TENNIS BALL IDEA IS AMAZING THOUGH

I wish I had a coach like you.I'm still having difficulty hitting

they are the same thing
yeah, sorry about that, after I left that comment, I went to volleyball camp for two weeks then realized how stupid this question actually was XD
***** Oh it was awesome! The coaches there were super nice, and by the end of one week,(each day being 4 hours with a lunch break), I could play a full game of volleyball :D

Gracelynx LOLL yes i did! i’m currently training for varsity for my senior year hehe
simplee n easy to understand :)
I have a question:
what happens when the spike is behind the setter? Is it the same sequence? Torsioning trunk towards out?
setter can set the ball behind himself for the spiker
My doubt is about the shoulders line of the spiker. Shoulders would be towards outside if setter sets behind her so i think it's hard to read the ball whith this position... Would it change the spiker's positioning in the moment of spike?

@underdog3001 No you're having a problem differentiating G and Q.
I find it easier to always keep your elbow over your shoulders at all time! :D
