Slow Draining: Easy 5 Seconds Toilet Flush Test and Solving the Slow Flush Mystery
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лип 2016
- Did you know that there are 3 different kinds of openings in your toilet? I tried using plunger, auger and snake but nothing worked (the flush/draining is just very slow). For a long time, I was trying to figure out the mystery of slow flush in my toilet, and finally I found the explanation and solution. I have discovered this easy 5-second test, which will save your time and money by diagnosing the problem. This is my major contribution to the subject, let's call it Dr. David Zhang's 5-second test. I know this 5-second test will not get me a Nobel Prize, but we hope just as many people will benefit because Dr. Zhang's test is very simple, easy and costs you absolutely nothing. There is no need to clean your toilet if it passed my simple 5 seconds test, otherwise you need to take actions.
I will also present two different ways to fix your slow toilet flushing problem.
This video is trying to solve the problem of "slow flushing, slow draining". If your problem is "no flushing", i.e. completely clogged/
blocked main drain, please view my previous video:
16 Ways To Unclog A Toilet (Main drain clogged)
• 16 Ways To Unclog A To...
We apologize in advance for the dirty toilet because we could not completely clean the bowl until the problem was fixed. If our bowl under test were a clean one, we would not have had the more than 10 seconds time.
We understand that many people would just call the plumber whenever there is a problem. We agree with you paying someone if it is a clogged main hole. This 5-second test is very easy, it would tell you if it is siphon hole problem. If your toilet passed the test (5 seconds), you then call your plumber to fix the main hole problem. If it fails the test (10 seconds), you just pour some liquid down saving you the time. It does not hurt to perform this test before you call your plumber. It not only save you the money but also the time and trouble.

You explained these mysteries better than any other video I've watched about this topic.
So kind of you to say so. We will publish more good videos.
2 plumbers said I need a new toilet, this solved the issue, amazing, thx
Me too!!! Thanks!
There is more profit in selling you new!
I guess I am quite off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released series online?
@Gael Trenton try FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
@Jerome Maxim Yup, I've been watching on flixzone for years myself :D
You solved my siphon issue. You're one of the most informative youtubers out there-thanks!
thank you for the compliment and taking the time to share your result
Thanks, very informative. Cleaning the siphon hose fixed my problem never knew it was there. Saved me a lot of money. Thanks again !!!
Thank you for taking the time to share your result
Thank you!!!! We've been having slow and weak flushing issues for what feels like forever. With two careless pre-teens and two teenagers you can only imagine the horror shows that my wife and I have been discovering after unsuccessful flushes Ten minutes after watching your video both of my toilets are back to flushing strongly and quickly. You are indeed a genius, sir.
Thank you for taking the time to share your result. Since my discovery of this 5-second test, this video has grown over 340k video views over the years, however not as many people have left comments, so I want to let you know that it is extremely rewarding to hear that my video helped you. And your comments will help other viewers.
THANK YOU for making and posting this video. Nothing was working for me, used a hanger to clean the holes under the rim, replaced all the tank hardware and did the CLR soak, twice, nothing. It was the lower flush jet that was calcified in my case, once that was dug out, I put in the drano and let it sit in the bowl 10 minutes and it's been flushing better than it ever has since. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Saved us $$$$$ for new toilets (2 of them doing the same thing at the same time).
Very happy to hear your story, thank you for sharing.
I've checked plenty of sites on this subject. Yours was the best by far. Timing the flush is a simple but brilliant test of the power of the flush. Finding those holes feeding water into the toilet & cleaning them of sediment with a wire hanger absolutely worked. Thanks so much.
Thank you for taking the time to share your results. Yes, we produce the original best solutions to a lot of problems.
Thank you so much! I've been living with this issue for awhile now, and tried a few different things that didn't fix it. I wish I would have found this video sooner!
Glad it helped! And thank you for taking the time to share your result.
Thank you! Just did this and it works great now. It never even occurred to me that these holes were clogged. Thanks for helping a single gal out! I’m learning more & more everyday to fix things by myself...no man required :)
Glad it helped! My respect to you. We need more smart gal like you to subscribe to this channel. Thank you for taking the time to share your success, this will help others.
Thank you. I was so confused why my toilet would refuse to finish flushing, turns out it was the siphon hole, as you showed, so I cleared the debris and now it flushes completely!
thank you for taking the time to share your results
hey man thanks alot for the video. out of all the ones I've watched. Your video is the only one that solved my problem and saved me money.. Great info great video thanks.
Thank you for sharing your results and taking the time to write comments.

Great explanation! I found the rim holes weren't clogged and tested with color water and found the main siphon was working so I didn't think it was clogged. Running this test made me realize it was. Five minutes later after cleaning it with a coat hanger, it was working as good as new. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you for sharing your result, this showed you really watched the video in very detail because you understand the 3 different holes. I am glad that my discovery of this 5-second rule really helped a lot of people and saved time and money.
Thank you for a very informative video. I loved your explanations. I was not aware of the importance of removing the hard mineral deposits from the syphoning hole and the jet holes. You saved me several hundred dollars. Now I can pay the plumber to solve bigger plumbing issues. Thanks!
glad to help you save the money and thank you for your compliment
You should pay “this” honest plumber instead!
Thank you so much for posting this video! Ten minutes later and voila! My family is very thankful!
Our pleasure! Many viewers said this video helped them saved time and money, we are so glad you take the time to share your result.
Just watched your video. Thank you! You solved my slow flush problem that has been bothering me for months. I never thought about the siphon hole being clogged but that was the culprit.
Thank you for sharing your toilet's slow draining culprit
Haven't tried cleaning the main siphon hole yet, but I have a feeling that's my problem. Have extremely hard water & this makes total sense. Thank you for such a detailed & easy explanation! U're the best!
Good luck! Let us know the result.
Thank you! None of the other videos showed this.
Such a simple and easy solution
Fixed it right up

thank you for the compliment and for taking the time to provide feedback.
Thank you! Nobel Prize in my book.
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words.
As others here have said, you just saved me a ton of $$ not having to call a plumber! Thank you so much. I'd seen a bunch of articles with the usual suggestions for fixing a weak-flushing toilet, but your tip about scraping away the mineral build up in the siphon hole worked. I also cleaned the small rim jet holes. Watching your video was so helpful. Everything is working fine now. :-)
Glad to help and very happy to read another viewer's success story.
Awesome info! Thank you! My son just bought a house and the toilet takes over 20 seconds to flush and won't send his business anywhere....he thought he had to buy a whole new toilet - this fixed it!

I can not thank you enough!!! I used CLR.
I taped up the holes under the toilet bowl rim, poured CLR in the overflow. And over an hour later, (got caught up with housework and forgot all about it), WHAMO! Another 5 second test graduate! Thank you! Thank you!
I’m off to tackle the other bathrooms. Thank you!
Thank you for reporting your success!! Go "5 second test"!!!

This guy is amazing , couldn't figure why my toilet wasn't draining for nothing , watched several other videos , which didn't help at all . I watched the Genius Asian's video , and "BAM" fixed it . Thanks Genius Asian
glad that it helped you and saved you the time and money. Yes, this video is the very first in the world that created the simple "5 Seconds Toilet Flush Test" to diagnose the problem for a toilet with siphon hole.
Thank you for this video. I had used a toilet auger several times. checked the flapper and all the rest. Nothing was clogging the toilet, but after your video it was the siphon hole part way clogged with scale. After cleaning out toilet siphon flushed in 5 seconds, checked other toilet no scale build up in it also not used as much. Again Thank You.
Glad it helped. Thank you for taking the time to leave comments so that other people can save time by spending 5 seconds easy testing first instead of using auger or snake first.
Great video, brother. Thank you, I will check and see if that's my problem!
thank you for taking the time to leave comments and let us know your result

You just saved me probably a couple hundred dollars. This fixed my problem. You are a genius. Thank you
it is very rewarding to hear that you may have saved a couple hundred dollars. You have saved even more if you called a plumber and he fails to perform the 5-second test and detect this particular problem. Thank you for taking the time to share your successful result, your confirmation comments will help other viewers.
You are the man! Your advise works brilliantly. Thank You!!
Glad to help. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and share your result, this will help other people.
Wow, I didn't know about the siphon hole! I found out a few days ago about the jets so I bought an acid cleaner and was finally able to poke through the hard deposits. I just went to my slowest flushing toilet that always looked like it would overflow instead of flush. I cleared the siphon hole with a screwdriver and now it's 6 seconds until it gurgles :) Thank you Dr. Zhang!!!
yes, it's so satisfying to hear the sound of gurgles :) Thank you for taking the time to share your result
Used the screwdriver method and worked like a charm 👍 thanks for the helpful advice.
Glad it helped. Thank you for taking the time to share your result
I bought a house in August and one of the toilets has been an slow flush issue. Finally have a solution that is septic system safe...thank you!
Glad it worked for you and thank you for taking the time to share result
Your English is remarkable -- much better than most of the people who post videos on here! And your explanations are very clear and thoughtful. I have watched a few videos like this, but this is the only one that even mentioned or showed the siphon hole! I never even knew it existed. Very helpful -- thank you!
Did the video get cut off? It played the full 6:45, but it seemed that the ending might have been cut off.
thank you for your nice comments, I am glad it helped you. The video is just 6:45 minutes long, I produced that video many years ago when I just started, at that time I did not have intro or ex-tro .
My toilet was unhappy, but now it is very happy thanks to your video !!
that is great! And we are happy when our viewers are happy 😂
Really worked, instead of using the screwdriver, I used a 2 1/2 inch flat nail, after working it a little, I saw able to push it in all the way, felt like small rocks. I flushed it and a dark grey cloud puffed out and it flushed great, many thanks to you.
Best video I've found on fixing this problem.
Thank you for taking the time to provide positive feedback.
Bro! You are 💯. Thanks for the video.

great video. When I saw you sitting there and then I saw the toilet right next to you of course it kind of looks like you're using a second toilet it was kind of funny too LOL. Great advice.

Perfect video.Thanx. Don't worry about some people complaining...

I tried snakes, chemicals, fill-valve adjustments, but nothing helped my slow-draining toilet. After watching this video, I used a screwdriver to clean out the siphon hole (looks like hard water deposits) and now it works great! Thank you Genius Asian!
Yes, the snakes only work if you had main hole problem. The 5-second test can detect if it is your main hole problem. Thank you for sharing your experience and leave positive feedback, and thank you for subscribing to our channel.
I have learned something from your video. Thank you!
glad to help and share
Your video really helped, a 2 second fix! Thanks :)
yes, that 5-second test is my best invention. Thank you for sharing your result
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Our toilet had been flushing like crap (pun intended) for almost a year. Flush and the water would just swirl around 90% of the time. Even 2 squares of toilet paper and no other waste wouldn't flush.
10 minutes later with a few test flushes and the toilet flushes with lots of force and empties completely.
Thank you sir for your tip! You saved me money on a new toilet and I didn't even have to leave the house.
Thank you for sharing your story. Glad this video helped you, thank you for your subscription.
EXCELLENT! Duct tape and food coloring, Ingenious!
This video helped me get to the cause of my slow/weak flushing toilet. Used muriatic acid to clean it and it's cleaner than ever plus flushes like when new. TY!!
Thank you for taking the time to share your result and it is good to know the muriatic acid worked for you.
I scraped my siphon hole and now my toilet flushes again. Thanks! Very informative!

I’ve been having trouble with my master bathroom toilet for YEARS… Just watched this video and didn’t even realize that the toilet HAD a siphoning hole it was so plugged up. Dug out all of that sediment and now it’s like new!
congratulations! indeed this problem could be identified by a very simple test and an easy cleaning could fix it, but not many people are aware of it. Thank you for sharing your result.

Pure genius!
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback.
Thank you so much for this video. I have this exact same problem (the jets and main drain are not clogged but the water leaves the bowl slowly). However, my toilet does not have a main siphon hole. Any tips?
before you have this "the water leaves the bowl slowly" problem, was there any swirling action? Towards the end of the flush did you hear a gurgling sound?
Thank you for responding to my question! Yes-there is a very large swirl that goes down the toilet drain slowly (around 15 seconds) and gurgling sounds when the flush is complete.
Thank you. I just fix my toilet. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Perfect! Thank you for taking the time to share your result.
When I poured into overflow tube, mine only came out from the siphon and not the rim but when I flushed, water came out of the rims also.
did you only drip a little bit water? try to pour more water to the overflow tube.
Use of the duct tape to block the rim holes was exactly what I needed to do to use muriatic acid effectively to thoroughly clean the rim channel and exit holes. The ability to retain the acid in the channel and the holes for 15 minutes or more allows much more calcium to be dissolved than simply allowing the acid to run unobstructed through the passages. I wish I knew of this technique twenty years ago. The results are terrific. Many thanks. Use a name brand duct tape because it holds much better and longer.
Thank you for sharing your results and taking the time to write comments.
Hey man sometimes when I wash the dishes for a long time the water comes up in the shower. My toliet is new but it doesnt flush well. What could be the problem? Thanks
I had a similar problem and my drain pipe was clogged. Once it was clogged, problem went away.
Some toilets don't have the siphoning hole...replaced all tank parts, cleaned the main drain..still takes 10-12 seconds to flush..and every other flush, the water doesn't empty all the way out.
I could not find our siphoning hole until I tried to poke it. Which brand is your toilet without siphoning hole? Is it a very old one that take more water (not the low flush type)?
@@GeniusAsian my toilet is at least from 1960 American Standard (Robin's Egg Blue color) hangs on the wall should it have a syphon hole? My toilet has been constantly starting and stopping running and it has been flushing very very slow and clogging constantly. I have well water with high iron content. I put Iron Out in the tank a few months ago hoping that would fix the problem of constant running but it didn't affect the problem. I clean the toilet with Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner that cleans rust and calcium . What do you suggest?
