Slow Draining: Easy 5 Seconds Toilet Flush Test and Solving the Slow Flush Mystery

  • Did you know that there are 3 different kinds of openings in your toilet? I tried using plunger, auger and snake but nothing worked (the flush/draining is just very slow). For a long time, I was trying to figure out the mystery of slow flush in my toilet, and finally I found the explanation and solution. I have discovered this easy 5-second test, which will save your time and money by diagnosing the problem. This is my major contribution to the subject, let's call it Dr. David Zhang's 5-second test. I know this 5-second test will not get me a Nobel Prize, but we hope just as many people will benefit because Dr. Zhang's test is very simple, easy and costs you absolutely nothing. There is no need to clean your toilet if it passed my simple 5 seconds test, otherwise you need to take actions.
    I will also present two different ways to fix your slow toilet flushing problem.
    This video is trying to solve the problem of "slow flushing, slow draining". If your problem is "no flushing", i.e. completely clogged/
    blocked main drain, please view my previous video:
    16 Ways To Unclog A Toilet (Main drain clogged)
    • 16 Ways To Unclog A To...
    We apologize in advance for the dirty toilet because we could not completely clean the bowl until the problem was fixed. If our bowl under test were a clean one, we would not have had the more than 10 seconds time.
    We understand that many people would just call the plumber whenever there is a problem. We agree with you paying someone if it is a clogged main hole. This 5-second test is very easy, it would tell you if it is siphon hole problem. If your toilet passed the test (5 seconds), you then call your plumber to fix the main hole problem. If it fails the test (10 seconds), you just pour some liquid down saving you the time. It does not hurt to perform this test before you call your plumber. It not only save you the money but also the time and trouble.

    THANK YOU for making and posting this video. Nothing was working for me, used a hanger to clean the holes under the rim, replaced all the tank hardware and did the CLR soak, twice, nothing. It was the lower flush jet that was calcified in my case, once that was dug out, I put in the drano and let it sit in the bowl 10 minutes and it's been flushing better than it ever has since. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Saved us $$$$$ for new toilets (2 of them doing the same thing at the same time).

    Great explanation! I found the rim holes weren't clogged and tested with color water and found the main siphon was working so I didn't think it was clogged. Running this test made me realize it was. Five minutes later after cleaning it with a coat hanger, it was working as good as new. Thanks for the great video!

    Wow, I didn't know about the siphon hole! I found out a few days ago about the jets so I bought an acid cleaner and was finally able to poke through the hard deposits. I just went to my slowest flushing toilet that always looked like it would overflow instead of flush. I cleared the siphon hole with a screwdriver and now it's 6 seconds until it gurgles :) Thank you Dr. Zhang!!!

    Thank you so much for this video. I have this exact same problem (the jets and main drain are not clogged but the water leaves the bowl slowly). However, my toilet does not have a main siphon hole. Any tips?

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  4 роки тому +1

      before you have this "the water leaves the bowl slowly" problem, was there any swirling action? Towards the end of the flush did you hear a gurgling sound?

    • @Kikidoyouloveme94
      @Kikidoyouloveme94 4 роки тому

      Thank you for responding to my question! Yes-there is a very large swirl that goes down the toilet drain slowly (around 15 seconds) and gurgling sounds when the flush is complete.

    When I poured into overflow tube, mine only came out from the siphon and not the rim but when I flushed, water came out of the rims also.

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  4 роки тому

      did you only drip a little bit water? try to pour more water to the overflow tube.

  • @homunculous007
    @homunculous007 7 років тому +2

    Use of the duct tape to block the rim holes was exactly what I needed to do to use muriatic acid effectively to thoroughly clean the rim channel and exit holes. The ability to retain the acid in the channel and the holes for 15 minutes or more allows much more calcium to be dissolved than simply allowing the acid to run unobstructed through the passages. I wish I knew of this technique twenty years ago. The results are terrific. Many thanks. Use a name brand duct tape because it holds much better and longer.

    Some toilets don't have the siphoning hole...replaced all tank parts, cleaned the main drain..still takes 10-12 seconds to flush..and every other flush, the water doesn't empty all the way out.

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  8 років тому +1

      I could not find our siphoning hole until I tried to poke it. Which brand is your toilet without siphoning hole? Is it a very old one that take more water (not the low flush type)?

      @@GeniusAsian my toilet is at least from 1960 American Standard (Robin's Egg Blue color) hangs on the wall should it have a syphon hole? My toilet has been constantly starting and stopping running and it has been flushing very very slow and clogging constantly. I have well water with high iron content. I put Iron Out in the tank a few months ago hoping that would fix the problem of constant running but it didn't affect the problem. I clean the toilet with Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner that cleans rust and calcium . What do you suggest?
