This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
I noticed on your video and perhaps it's worth a mention, the August SmartLock doesn't control keyentry door knobs - which eliminates the option of a keyless entry {using wifi/bluetooth} if the lock on the knob is active.
Awesome video, thanks. If you're not an employed by them, perhaps some royalties are due. Given that their website DOES NOT explain it. BTW, is there a monthly fee for usage?
Great video. I just happen to see an advertisement for an online exclusive at Sam's Club today and found your video. The video answered all of my questions.
Nice review! Only one I saw with an explanation of the app and it's functions. I want to grab one of the new ones in a month or two. According to their website, and the email I got back from them, there is buggy compatibility with m LG V10. Though they can't say specifically what doesn't work, only that a bunch of (basically all) features may or may not work with that phone. I don't want to go through all the install and troubleshooting for a "may or may not work" I have a phone upgrade coming and I'm going to go back to Samsung when they release the G8.
Hi JBTech17 can you give me feedback on how the connect is working cause i have read some bad reviews about getting disconnected from the wifi. Thank you in advance
Yes! The only thing that is replaced is the inside part of your deadbolt. The outside will remain the same so you are still able to use the same physical keys you were using. Thank you for watching! :]
It's cool, but I find it too bulky. Hopefully they make one that is going to be less bulky. Btw Joel are you going to get Nest thermostat or any other smart home appliances because I find that it's a good idea of doing reviews of these products and putting into a playlist.
Any suggestions on how to get the Connect to maintain a Bluetooth signal to the lock? I guess this is a pretty common problem. Tried multiple setups and different outlets. Tried an extension cord with the Connect right next to the lock. This lack of reliability kind of makes the Connect useless.
You can still unlock it if you are nearby since it works with Bluetooth (or physical key) or if its somebody you trust (family/friend), you can give them access by inviting them to have access to the door and they can unlock with their phone via the August app if you aren't home.
I want one but its too expensive. $300 for a complete solution on 1 door is just too much. $150 would be a no brainier. Same reason I haven't gotten a nest, too spendy
You are silly, so you didn't buy a product that will last maybe 10 years (nest) and will save you 200 a year or more b/c it cost 250? LOL logic bro, logic. Also, FYI power companies more often than not provide rebates for buying items like smart thermostats, and insurance companies may discount your home owner's insurance rate due to smart items like locks or fire/smoke detectors that can signal you remotely. LOL get with the times, stop thinking about today and put your mind to something useful, like tomorrow.
That is even more a reason not to get it, no way that device will be supported for 10 yrs with updates and improvements. They will want you to buy a newer version. LOL now that's logic bro. You can get a million other cheaper smart thermostats that will save you the same amount of money in the long run. It is true many companies are reimbursing people for thermostats and if that's the case then go ahead, but paying full price for it nawww not worth it. I still think these smart locks are not worth it, I have heard countless reviews saying YMMV on performance.

You are a lucky guy, here in Brazil such thing will cust 1200u$
Why do people want to surrender their own and everyone's privacy to the Internet of things? Cameras, smart locks, everything that creates a record of your activities that didn't exist before. People should buy my "Impact" a James Grider novel on Amazon so I can afford a used car and then imagine themselves mentally ill like James Grider. It can easily happen. You end up smarter than the sheeple around you and boom--you are unwanted in society and that makes you mad and makes you want to do bad things. Or you were raised by abusive people. Or you are poor. The challenge then becomes--how to keep out of prison that the hostile society wants you to be in. People are building a digital prison for themselves, and not just themselves but for everyone they interact with and everyone who is forced to interact with them. Want to buy things in a store, then you have to be on camera. That kind of thing. Why can't people have privacy and anonymity so the government isn't reigning supreme over all or the SJW scolds or whoever lately thinks they are on a higher moral plane. You have weapons to defend your homes.
The connect is junk after a year and few months. When it works was great, but now always disconnected from wifi and no fix with the issue. Lock still works with bluetooth so far. I still keep my physical key in and out the house just in case. So yea lock is okay but the connect...don't waste your money on it...it was nice to have it but if you never to replace it every year with a new unit, not worth it
If I left my cell phone and key in the house.so how about if any other member of the family that I can call and maybe they can open tfhe door for me.would that work.
JBTech17 will it show you if someone unlocks the door manually from the inside ?? if you have the connect feature... will it give me a pop up notification of manually opening the lock??? @JBTech17
Question. Can you somehow hack it so you CANT manually unlock it from the inside? I ask this because we are desprate for something that will keep my son inside. He has Autism and is and extreme flight risk. Im sure that goes against all fire codes and the like, but his escape habits far outweight the times our house has burned down. Like 50:0 in the last two days....
It has become quite convenient to have/use. For the build, functionality, & simplicity, I think the price is reasonable. Appreciate the feedback though! Thanks for watching! :]
Richard Murdock correct! Bottom locks are useless though. They are keep out friend locks to keep out honest people. Anyone can just use a credit card to open those bottom door locks lol. Deadbolts are the real security locks to keep intruders out.
but anyone could remove it from the outside, only raising insurance and would achieve not only steal the smart lock, also would have access to the house
Could this still work if i decided to remove the keyhole on the other side of the door? i want it so that nobody can get in my bedroom, even a locksmith. Im 19 and am forced to live with my grandmother and she hates cats, i have a cat which i keep in my room 24/7 and she'll go as far as getting a locksmith to unlock my door so she can KILL my cat.
+Jacob Johnson Or you can just put biometrics on the lock itself, so I don't have to waste my time taking my phone out of my pocket, let the NFC communicate, then using touch id.
bro people will still bitch about charging their phone monthly. Trust me, evolution has left us insatiable. Great for business. Not so good for sanity and being a rational adult. It's pretty exhausting knowing we have to constantly change. I'm not lazy but I can appreciate relaxation given my already exhausting work and lifestyle. Thanks for the video though. just installing my August lock. Can't get it to connect so I'm gonna go swap it. Thanks again

Wow, that's really cool. Didn't even know that these things existed lol
Yeah it's pretty awesome dude!

Thank you for giving a lot of details on how to work on it.
Why am I just now seeing something like this? I'm so getting something like this when I get a house ha. Sweet video
Thanks for the review. I wonder about the pairing process. I like the QR code scan.

Very nice system all around.. Great job on the video Joel!!
Appreciate it dude!
What a comprehensive review... Loved it.
Thanks for the video! Is this Gen 1? Also, did you say it unlocks by proximity of the phone?
Good job with the video. Very good
Yes. I definitely will buy one.
Hi,enjoyed video, are you having any issues with battery cover falling off?
Im buying one tommorow.
Great Review....I see you have the Sky Bell...would you switch to the August Door Bell?
I love it I am getting one very soon
I just saw it in Bestbuy today. Love this product but it's a bit expensive. The price haven't changed after 8 months..sad
Yes I am going to get it.
Nice review. But my lock is different from the inside it has a long plate with handle not separated like yours. Can it be done ?
No it won't be able to be used on your lock. You'd have to change it
GREAT REVIEW: CLEAR, EASY AND SIMPLE!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great yes I would definitely get one for my home
Wow, awesome review. Nicely done
Thanks!
Great review!
Thanks man
Awesome review... very informative.
Appreciate it!
Can you use this outside the US? Since it asks for your number. Would you prefer this over the other smart locks? Thanks.
Hi JBTech17 can you give me feedback on how the connect is working cause i have read some bad reviews about getting disconnected from the wifi. Thank you in advance
this goes on the inside? nice video!
Yes! The only thing that is replaced is the inside part of your deadbolt. The outside will remain the same so you are still able to use the same physical keys you were using.
Thank you for watching! :]
that is super cool! you're welcome!
would love to hear the 'review' part of it...after living with it for a few months...
It could play nicely with airbnb.
It's cool, but I find it too bulky. Hopefully they make one that is going to be less bulky. Btw Joel are you going to get Nest thermostat or any other smart home appliances because I find that it's a good idea of doing reviews of these products and putting into a playlist.
Hope to pick up a Nest in the future! :]
Thanks
Really Good
Do you have to have wifi available at home? I am considering to use it in our vacation home. However, we don't have internet there.
Will top and bottom both lock? Or would you have to buy two?
battery last for a year? how about winter time with subzero temperature?
Is there a cydia tweak to bypass data Throttling?? Please let me know.. Thanks
Can you use multiple August locks? If this is a feature I'm sold!
+Isaiah Navies Yes, you can add multiple ones and control via the app.
JBTech17 SOLD! Thanks bud!
Would this be designed for doors with only one active lock?
Its a bit odds to have two locks, unlocking one and August locking the other
For it to be more convenient, I'd say yes.
Hi, is that possible to change the language for other country? I mean the app .
Any suggestions on how to get the Connect to maintain a Bluetooth signal to the lock? I guess this is a pretty common problem. Tried multiple setups and different outlets. Tried an extension cord with the Connect right next to the lock. This lack of reliability kind of makes the Connect useless.
Do you think it's strong enough to lock and unlock a stiff deadbolt, because my deadbolt is really hard to open
If you are able to manually unlock/lock your door using a physical key, I don't think it'll be an issue for August to do so as well.
would it give you a notification if the lock is tampered with from the inside? say, someone removed the august from the inside.
Does the app constantly have location services on when auto-unlock is on?
how long do the batterys last?
How does this work during a power outage? (i.e the connect bridge has no power during an outage)
You can still unlock it if you are nearby since it works with Bluetooth (or physical key) or if its somebody you trust (family/friend), you can give them access by inviting them to have access to the door and they can unlock with their phone via the August app if you aren't home.
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want one but its too expensive. $300 for a complete solution on 1 door is just too much. $150 would be a no brainier. Same reason I haven't gotten a nest, too spendy
Brian Hayes Guys, just earn points through Grab Points and you can earn good passive income.

will august work if my home is in Miami and I am in Canada? Will I be able to unlock my door if I am in Canada?
One thing I can't get to work in the auto unlock . Nothing I do is working and it's pissing me off 😡🙂
What is the life age for this thing... if we use manual
I don’t get the red dot nor do I see the people I added. Any ideas?

What if you take it off and turn it by hand
So when your phone dies and your charger is in the house... Yeaaaah you see where i'm going with this.
That's why you keep your key on you in case that ever happens, which usually doesn't
well thats cool and all but you can take the cover and unit off from outside. that doesnt do much for safety.
If I left my cell phone and key in the house.so how about if any other member of the family that I can call and maybe they can open tfhe door for me.would that work.
JBTech17 will it show you if someone unlocks the door manually from the inside ??

@JBTech17
A.Aziz Al-Mubarak Yes, you can enable a setting to show you manual locks/unlocks via the August app

how does the lock know it is you to unlock automatically?
your August account.
can you turn the notifications off
West of money Joel
It has become quite convenient to have/use. For the build, functionality, & simplicity, I think the price is reasonable. Appreciate the feedback though! Thanks for watching! :]
How can I open August at a specific time? Especially in the morning when I want to go out, I have to open August manually
you an idiot!
This Only locks and unlocks the Deadbolt and has nothing to do with the bottom lock Correct?
Richard Murdock correct! Bottom locks are useless though. They are keep out friend locks to keep out honest people. Anyone can just use a credit card to open those bottom door locks lol. Deadbolts are the real security locks to keep intruders out.
So people thad made that lock can come to any house(that is using that lock) or send someone with that pass. If they wont...of course.
UkuraciUsername yup😛
How to unlock without phone
What happens when I have guest that don't want to download the app, can the access via a code or bluethoot?
Gwendolyne Moino if it was just the app, right. If I understood the video correctly they even have to sign up for an account. That's a no go
super cool. so this an be used as evidence against you in a court of law. nice!
but anyone could remove it from the outside, only raising insurance and would achieve not only steal the smart lock, also would have access to the house
not literally tied:good point. lmao
Good video, but what bugs me is your screen door with the opposite handle that looks like its broken.
what about someone hacking it
Lol, He has that and a smart doorbell.
Could this still work if i decided to remove the keyhole on the other side of the door? i want it so that nobody can get in my bedroom, even a locksmith.

No charge = no home
You can still use your keys
How is this working out for you?
great review.. Garbage product
