I've often wondered why comedians are often people who have had difficult lives or mental health struggles, and the older I get the more I realize it's because taking a more playful, unserious perspective on your challenges is actually a very effective coping mechanism

There was so much more depth to this talk than I was expecting from the opening. That is my own bias coming through around how ‘play’ and ‘creativity’ translate into purpose and meaning. Quite eye opening.

"We are all born creative, curious, and hungry to explore the world." Such a beautiful notion, and she's definitely right. What are we doing to each other and ourselves that this sense of wonder doesn't continue into adulthood?

I am 27 years old and desperately want to explore the world being creative in the country that people act as robots and it’s difficult for me to get a job there if I don’t qualify learn boring stuff that would help people here to get a job very easily.
I’ve been struggling with my life in Finland for 6 years. Then I look people around me (my relatives, my family, my friends...) asking why they’re so happy even they probably are in the same situation as me but react differently and people who are doing jobs that are considered the least interesting ones but they look happy all the time.
Yes, I couldn’t stand the boring jobs but keep asking myself the question “ if everyone refuse to handle the boring, less creative tasks then who’s gonna handle because definitely someone MUST handle them”. I watched a lot a lot of video like this and struggle still.
The video is great but not realistic actually. It’s time to accept that there are the people who love those boring jobs and people who are creative. Live whatever life you think fit you the most and forget about whether I’m creative or not and stop comparing yourself to others, wondering she’s cooler because she’s very creative, experienced. Just the theoretical lesson, wake up and face to reality

    • @Choshmeesh

But just having a boring job does not restrict other aspects of your life ..
At most, the average person’s job should take up no more than a third of his working day...
And eight hours go to sleep.
That leaves eight hours of the day still available.
The rest is up to time management of the individual.

I believe what she is trying to say is that:
      a) Life doesn't end with maturity. And it is worth remaining as open minded and hungry for the new as children. I can imagine that otherwise you just stop in mental and physical development. And it is sad to see 30 years old person, who find a job, find beloved one, maybe have a children and stuck in this triangle - nothing more to dream of.
      b) The only way to find creative and innovative solutions is actually to be creative. How? New experience, new impressions, new emotions, new information etc. which actually expands your reality and makes possible to think out of box.
      That's the point

There I am taught the ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ of dancing and compared to others, then my free movement is associated with judgement and soon, I no longer want to dance because it becomes crippling. This is a story that has been constantly repeated in my creative journeys :(
