Freethought Festival is a free annual conference hosted by the Atheists, Humanists, & Agnostics of the University of Wisconsin Madison.
People laugh at the propaganda presented at around the 22 minute mark, the whole "Watch Out for 666" thing, but please understand, when you are a 10 year old kid, that kind of stuff terrorizes you. My Mom (who had good intentions mind you) sent me to an "Occult Rock Music" seminar at my church, and it scarred me for years, sent me into a deep depression, and made me obsess over the end of the world. It stole my childhood innocence by directing my attention away from growing up and learning valuable life building skills, to one of always fearing hell and the end times. By the time I reached my mid twenties I had thankfully healed enough to really interact with the world, but I wish the church could see the damage they do to kids with their bullshit heaven and hell.
BishopLake, I agree and relate very well with how you feel about the tactics some churches use to achieve their goals.
A church that is operating fully under God's authority, under the power of the Holyspirit will NEVER use tactics to scare or browbeat people, especially children into living a True Christian life.
Using that strategy will 99 percent of the time turn people away or against God and anything associated with God, ie. the church, and I can testify to that!
But, I've learned that ALL churches don't function in that way. I now understand that Satan has corrupted, is corrupting and will continue to corrupt Some churches with evil intentions to discourage people from seeking God.
See, God knew that it wouldn't be fair for us to suffer in Eternal Damnation for being born into sin that we had nothing to do with.
So, instead of canceling out humanity and destroying His creation right then, He sacrificed His Son's life to pay for the sin that we inherited from birth.
Our sins have been paid for, now all we have to do is have faith, accept, trust and believe with all of our hearts that God is the Great I Am, that Jesus Christ, His son died for our sins and is our Lord and Savior, live according to His Word and we will receive the Gift of Salvation when our visit on earth is up, instead of Eternal Damnation!
But, good ole Satan doesn't want that to happen, Satan wants our souls to suffer in Agony for Eternity with him.
And personally, I've suffered enough from all of his evil attacks against me, and I've had enough of watching how he uses people to cause confusion, suffrage, torment, death and destruction upon mankind to know that there's no way in HELL I'm going to spend Eternity in HELL suffering with Satan once I leave this earth!
Satan is extraordinarily crafty in how he deceives people, he doesn't discriminate and he uses any means necessary to prevent people from seeking the true purpose of God's plan for mankind!
God left it up to us, He doesn't force us to do anything. He doesn't scare or berate us into following Him, those that He called to leadership must teach and explain Biblical doctrine with compassion and love, not scare tactics.
God wants us to read His Word for ourselves, to understand the purpose of why we are born and why we will die. To understand the He wants nothing but the best for us. Once we have that understanding, the choice is ours to make. God or Satan, Good or evil!
Gotquestions.org is an excellent site that answers questions pertaining to the world we live in. Their answers are from the Holy Bible, scriptures and examples included. The content is very simple to understand and the format is perfect. Check it out if you have any questions that needs answering. For example, What is the sin nature?
Heaven and Hell are real places, otherwise, Satan wouldn't waste his time trying to deceive people into thinking that they are not! ✌🏽❤

I responded to your initial post because, I had experienced what you were saying , and as a result I left the church and turned away from God for about 20 years.
I responded because, a lot of people don't know and understand who God is and/or how Satan operates!
I wasn't trying to persuade you to do anything, my intentions were to share a little info and provide a resource that would be beneficial "IF" you chose to use it.
You made it crystal clear that you had "been there and done that", which I do understand and respect as well!
The journey of life is a bumpy ride that can and will come to an end at any given time!

I'm an atheist...but I'm very much on board with the mission of TST. It's utterly non-theistic(at least TST is) but....promotes positive ethics and goals.
They also value community and ritual and art and symbolism....which I value quite a bit myself.
I am an atheist....and a humanist....and secular....but Satanism is an important and ethical counter-myth that can do real work in our society.
I love how they lean in to the symbolism theocrats have always thrust upon them. They took that narrative...and now make people THINK about it, rather than just have a gut-level histrionic reaction. I genuinely find TST to be a valuable instrument in making the world a better place.
I totally get why some atheists would balk at all this. But.....when I was young I was utterly tied-up in end-times evangelical hysteria. So, for me personally, the mythology of Satan and everything tangential to that....is a potent and beautiful mythos to fight back against theocratic power. It subverts the very idea of Satan and reclaims valid ethics and priorities that have long been "satanized."
Lucien is such a brilliant public speaker.
I love that he's pretty much the face of TST.....he handles that role perfectly.
And I love how he SO looks the part.....he's not just intelligent....he's also a very handsome guy who just so happens to have a cool looking Bowie-esque eye that just seals the deal on the whole "modern suave satanic" look. Sometimes reality is just _too_ on the nose....

Bowie had an injury to his pupil where it could never dilate, Lucien also had an injury but it's just scarred and greyed over. they were/are both handsome tho so there's that.

I do respect what Mr. Lucien Greaves has been doing as a social activist but I must admit that his lectures on Pseudoscience is hurtful to listen too because of what he says about the symbolism of his monument of the Satanic Temple, The Bayonet {I'm sorry if I had just misspelled it}. It was supposed to mean a reconciliation- a combination of different types of people and their different beliefs.
If I had the chance to ask him a question it would be, " Why are you destroying Pseudoscience which is humanist and a useful service that involves Science when you use scientific reason to prove other types of religions are wrong?" I would choose to ask Mr. Greaves this question because it might answer another concern of mine about his idea of making a world a better place, socioeconomically. He talks about compassion but does not believe in charities perhaps because of the economical reason that he mentions in one of his earlier interviews, Interview on their progress with the Satanic monument part 2 of 3. I found that interview terrifying.

Pseudoscience has nothing to do with rational, evidence based science. Don't confuse the two. Pseudoscience is a scam, same as religion, used to take advantage of the gullible and the dim.
