- Hi fam,
This Digitone tutorial is all about the arpeggiator! If you know my jams you might have noticed that I use the arp in nearly every jam, because I just love it and think that it is a great performance tool as well. So in this video I want to show you how I use the arp on melodic elements as well as on more percussive elements. Hope everything gets clear and makes sense, if you've any questions regarding setup or workflow feel free to ask in the comments!
Stay safe and creative,
Miles

Thank you. This video's great. Really liked the tip on using Arps on percussive sounds, both for how they sound & for freeing up trigger spaces!
Thanks for the great feedback! Happy to hear that you liked the tips.
Thank you very much for tour tutorials.
Greets from south of France ✌️
Cheers Pierre! Happy to hear that you enjoy them - many greetings back from Western Germany 🙌🏻
this arp is similar to the octatrack, there you can, and maybe on the DT too, rotate (roll) the midi arp note sequence setting by using FUNC+Arrow keys, makes a lotn of fun especially in combination with shorting the lenght.
Thanks for the nice tip! Will definitely check that out 🙌🏻
Let me know it that work on digitone, i intent to purchase it.@@MilesKvndra
Using the arp to have multiple notes trigger at the same time on the same channel is absolutely brilliant.
Yeah, it offers great possibilities and much more notes per track. Thanks for watching!
Miles "Dr.Digitone" Kvndra. Congrats for 2k. Keep it rollin.
Let's keep on rolling! 🙌🏻
Awesome and very informative tutorial Miles. Thanks and keep em coming.
Thanks a bunch for the feedback! Glad to hear you find it informative and I'll definitely keep them coming. :)
What a great idea for a tutorial. Thank you. Can’t wait to go through this today. Please keep them coming!
Thank you Michael! That means a lot, hope you can take something out of it!!
Thank you man for this tutorial :) so much inspiration to takes from your workflow !!
You nailed it again
Thanks Maxime, that is great feedback. Always good to hear that people can draw inspiration from these videos :)
Really helpful, clear tutorial. Thank you 👍
Thanks for the feedback, Ken! You're welcome! :)
Very nice Tutorial! Saved it to my playlist !
Thank you, mate! Great to see you using the DT+DN combo as well, happy to see more jams coming in. :)
Great tutorial and you are a good teacher explaining things in an understandable way, thanks :)
Hey Tom, thanks for the nice comment! Great to hear that everything gets clear :)
Thank you, love your easy going, no bs approach. You are now my fave digitone teacher.
Hey Trond, thank you that is really good feedback! I'm trying to keep these tutorials as straight forward as possible - great to hear that this is appreciated!
Yeah Miles!! My favorite digitone “teacher”. Always amazing to watch your videos, thx for these tips
Hey man, thank you so much! That means a lot and I'm super happy that you find the videos useful. Cheers!
@@MilesKvndra I’m not using my Digitone to the fullest when I look at your videos. Totally fell in love with the A4 and wanted the Digitone to complement it, even when I already had the FM synth, The Yamaha MODX which is the successor of the DX7 :) But elektron sequencers are way more fun
@@Expectaz Can understand your love for the A4! Played it once in a synth store and it has some really great sounds. DX7 is a classic and has a much deeper sound engine, but you're right: the Digitone really shines when it comes to the sequencer. :)
@@MilesKvndra The MODX can do a lot more luckily! It has the best pianos and guitars in a synth. But nothing beats the fun of the elektron sequencers. I use the Akai Force and MPC a lot too and they are more powerful but the Elektrons are fun
@@Expectaz That sounds great! Making good piano or keys in general on the Digitone is sth I still need to learn. Always end up with organs or pads :D
Thank you Miles. Love your stuff. SUBSCRIBED!
Awesome! That is cool to hear, welcome to the channel! :)
The device contains more possibilities than I had given it credit for. Good understandable instructions. Well done.
Thanks for the feedback, mate! Yeah the Digitone definitely has a lot to offer. And good to hear that everything gets clear, that's really important!
I love the rhythm ideas!
Thank you! Yeah I really love the extra sequencer space you can get through that :)
Nice man as usual
Thanks man! Good to see you here
Nice tutorial! I'll have to put some of these tips into practice
Thanks mate! If you do let me know how it worked - and keep your jams coming, really enjoy them!
That was pretty dope! 👍
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Yeah man. This is the real deal. SO glad I stumbled upon the DigitoNe (on may way to, I thought, pick up a Takt)!!! What a happy accident!!!! Thanks for your work.
Thank you for reaching out, appreciate it! The Digi-Combo rocks 😎
Great tip, thanks man!
You're welcome, man! Thanks for checking out the video 🙌🏼
Great tips - thanks!
Cheers! Great to see you checking some other videos out too :)
@@MilesKvndra For sure. I'm trying to DN to become friendlier with me :-) Your videos seem to help...
@@shualiko good to hear - keep going! :)
Great demo - thank you. So much better than Elektron’s own demo videos which are impossible to follow!
Hey Dark Light, that is amazing feedback thank you so much - so good to hear that the tutorial is understandable. Cheers!
Great video, man.
Thanks Thom! 🙏🏼
Good stuff. Thank you.

You're welcome, Urlu! Happy to hear that you like it and thanks for the sub! 🙏🏻🙂
Awesome! Thanks! Subbed! 👍
Cheers and you're welcome! Your Digitakt tips video really helped me to get going with the Takt, thanks for that too! :)
really usefull thks!!!!
Awesome Toff! The arpeggiator on the Digitone is great
Very nice! got my Volca fm under the dust to play a little with the Arp :)
Hey Adil, that's cool to hear! Volca FM is a nice machine too :D
Great tips, thanks! Time to try using them 😏
Cheers! 🙌🏼 Let me know how they work for you
Need to get comfortable with the flow. Digging deeper :D
@@xaosresonance Great! Keep it up 😁
Fannnnnnnnntastic!
Thaaaaaank you!
starkes tutorial miles !
macht lust aufn digitone 😜
Haha danke dir, Lasko!
@@lasko303 sehr wahr! Ich versuche das soweit es geht einzugrenzen 😁
Hey Miles, thanks for another amazing tutorial. Your music and insights are very inspiring! I've got a Digitakt already and you have inspired me to get a Digitone also. I have one question for you... is there a simple-ish way of using the Digitone's arpeggiator to sequence a track on the Digitakt?
Hey Smerin, thanks a bunch for the feedback - hearing that my content is inspiring for others is the best thing. 🙂
Regarding your question: Unfortunately there is at the moment no way in using the Digitone's arp on MIDI tracks which really is a shame. I hope this will be added in the next firmware update but currently this is (afaik) not possible.
@@MilesKvndra ah that’s a shame, but it just a nice to have really for me. Digitone has been ordered and I’ll be watching a lot more of your videos soon to get up to speed. Thanks again, and big up from Bristol!
@@smerin that's awesome, wishing you great fun with it - it's an amazing synthesizer! Cheers from Cologne 🙌🏻
I did learn a few things. I was not aware you could add other sounds (on top of the arp) on the same track when using a different root note. And actually I thought reload ptn did not work on the arp menu. Thanks for the tips
Great to hear! And yeah the layering of two sounds totally changed the way I use the Digitone standalone. This way I can make all my drums fit on one track which was a game changer for me :)
This was a great tutorial, Miles. I'm really enjoying learning from you and can't wait to see more of these lessons. I noticed that anytime that I load a new sound, my arpeggiator settings are erased. Is there a way around that? Thx!
Hey Michael, thanks so much, I appreciate to hear your feedback! The arpeggiator settings are saved to the sound, so of you change it, they will be gone. However, you could try to copy the arp settings page, load up a new sound and then paste the settings to this sound.
@@MilesKvndra Thanks for your suggestion. I gave that a try and it copies part of the arp settings, for example the little pattern, but the mode, speed, range and length aren’t copied over. Just thought I’d share my findings.
@@michaelrasmussen8590 ah okay, thanks for sharing your findings! That was my only idea for a workaround, sorry to hear that it doesn't work :(
Ecellent video. Really useful. Thank you. Arp setting cry out for LFO modulation - is there any way to do this?
Hey John, Unfortunately not and also no changeable arp settings per trig. This is a big downer for me as I love the arp and would like to use it in a more flexible way. Cheers!
Always on top of these tutorials! for the arp, the ofs +1 corresponds well to the note C #, +2: D, +3: D # ?
Cheers dude! Yes that's how it works I think: one step is one semitone :)
🙏🙏🙏
Cheers vlad! 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Hi Miles! Wo kommen die denn her?
@@michaelkoch1268 Ah okay, got it!
@@MilesKvndra Vielen Dank, Miles!
i havent found a way to add swing to the arp sequence. is this possible at all?
Hey mauve, I don't think that it's possible to add it just in the arp. I think it's just working on a global level
@@MilesKvndra apparently the arp doesnt have swing at all, even if you have swing in the project :(
@@mauve7609 ah okay that's a pitty. Never checked that :(
@@MilesKvndra maybe they will add it to a future update. I make house music so swing is a big deal for me 😁
@@mauve7609 oh yeah I can imagine haha! Yeah swing on the arp would be great, let's keep our fingers crossed! :)
Great tutorial! Can I fix the arp melody?
Thank you! You mean record it as MIDI notes? I think that’s doable unfortunately
Wish there was parameter locking for the arp
Hey Joe, I absolutely second that. It really is a workflow killer when you can't change the settings in the parameter settings - this way the arp sometimes feels not so well integrated in the whole workflow. Really hoping for a future firmware update to improve this! :)
Great tutorial as usual 👍 DN arp is incredible, so much possibilities but…no midi out! 😟
Hey Clo, thank you very much for the feedback! Happy to hear you find the tutorial useful. And yeah, that it doesn't have MIDI out really is a shame. Would love to use it on other synths as well :(
@@MilesKvndra yes it’s a shame…it would be great also to manage Arp parameters with midi or lfo as well…not enough assignable lfos on DN imo…😟
@@closystem8 let's hope for future firmware updates. But I have no idea how likely this is :(
So does the lack of MIDI out mean that if I were using an external MIDI keyboard to play sounds on the Digitone, I couldn’t also use the keyboard to select notes that would be triggered by the DN’s built in arpeggiator? I.e., can I only select notes for the arpeggiator to play by using the buttons on the DN?
🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙌🏻💪🏻💪🏻
6:03... Don't understand how do you change sound! 😭
Hey Anchuzo, before the timestamp you mentioned I changed all sounds turning different parameters and then I hit 'Func' + 'No' to go back to the safe state, recalling the sounds that were previously saved. Jeremy from Red Means Recording explains and shows this quite well in his videos about the Digitone. :)
@@MilesKvndra thanks so much!!
Why the hell does the arp not work with midi?
That's a very good question, Ed. The arp is one of my favourite features on the Digitone and it's a pity that it doesn't work on the MIDI tracks. :(
@@MilesKvndra because they want you to buy the octatrack.
@@dnaflr2 true...
Interesting fact that plus/minus 5 and 7 semitones, applied to any note on a minor chord, always gives you a note within the key! Wondering if there is a music-theoritical reason for that...
Hey Frimann, good point that I find interesting as well. Andrew Huang would be someone to explain this in an entertaining and insightful way 😁 Cheers!
Almost bought a digitone. So glad i didnt 😅
Oh, what was holding you back? Would be interested to know.
