    If you’re just replacing the gear case (transmission) it’s not necessary to remove the spanner nut. It slides up through the spin tube which is secured with the spanner block and nut. Only thing attached to the transmission on top is the agitator. Good luck!

    I'll have to revisit this one if my Whirlpool ever needs it. But for now, this looks pretty intimidating.

    The upper water pump hose should be under that leg, not over it. With agitation the hose will be in trouble, possibly leak or shred the hose! Good luck!.

    Do you really need to remove the drive block nut to remove and replace the transmission? As far as I can tell the nut doesn't impede the removal and reinsertion of the transmission shaft... am I wrong?

    How long is this part good for? I've seen some comments stating that it lasts for 1.5 - 2 years (due to planned obsolesence). Is it worth doing the repairs for this much effort? I'm really wanting to try this but if the part is not going to last longer than 2 years, should I bother?

    • @07ow

      Should last longer. My washer is from 1998.

    I don’t know how he does it… Not one curse work in any of his videos! Usually by the time I’ve got something torn apart I’ve let loose a whole plethora of curse words, cut half my fingers and those that didn’t get cut are smashed or broken. 😂

    In removing the motor, a part which looks like a 2" nail but flat on one side and has a hole at the lower end of the "nail" fell out. I cannot find where it belongs. Does anyone know where it belongs and how I can put it back?

    • @jamesnogames

      That is a shipping fastener. Not to worry where it goes

    My new transmission isn't sitting right. I can't get it seated so that the bolts will go back in.

      The clutch assembly is striking the bottom of the shaft too soon.

    How did you know to replace transmission?

    • @partselect
      @partselect  7 років тому +2

      The usual symptom for a faulty transmission would be “noisy in wash cycle” or “no agitation”.

    • @EddieTheGrouch
      @EddieTheGrouch 6 років тому

      Also clothes will wind around the agitator along with noisy clunking or snapping. That's when the agitator shaft ratchets around due to worn splines on the shaft. Replace transmission or just the shaft if you are handy. Shafts run about $75 - $100.

      Hello Eddie, I’m glad I found your comment. This is exactly what’s happening to my washing machine. What are your thoughts about the spanner wrench. Should I get one or can I use a large set of channellock’s?

    Found it! it is a clutch band and it is not cracked. It just looks weird.

    Could somebody please tell me the name of the large white plastic part (probably a cam) that is visible just after the transmission is removed. In this video at: 8min 28s
    Mine is cracked apart. I initially thought the cams inside the transmission were faulty. The washer in spin mode creates a loud ratcheting sound when in spin cycle, as the agitator attempts to engage.

    • @partselect
      @partselect  7 років тому

      The part you are referring to is the brake cam driver. This is included in the clutch kit (PS334641).

    Mine spins but leaves some water at the bottom and the cloth wet. Can it be the clutch or do I have to replace the transmission? Thank you.

      PartSelect... you should change the last few minutes of this video. The position of the pump hose is not right! It might get ripped or leak over the leg, where he put it when it agitates. It should go under the leg!

    Please remove loud, unneeded guitar music. At some points I can barely hear you because of music.
