This is a great video showing closeup how to fix this issue. With the oil drained it is clear to see what you're doing. Personally, I won't drain the oil to save myself the hassle. Thanks for the great video!
holy mackerel, I was all in until the gasket monster showed up.😂 and btw.. lots of videos showing this rebuild but nobody actually shows you what the bad part was, or worn part, if not the gear teeth.
It appears that the transmission is salvageable only if the large plastic spin gear and neutral drain switch need replacement? If any of the metal components are bad, then better to totally replace the transmission is what I am getting here.
Appliance Man or Angel. Not so much gasket is needed. The two surfaces mate and there is less lan a human hairs space in between. A thin line applied around and inboard of bolt holes is plenty. Excess can end up inside transmission with oil.
IF the neutral drain causes spin while draining, can you tell me what goes bad amongst the neutral drain components? One of the plastic/cylinders pawls? Worn washer that fits on top of the big gear? Have any videos shows neutral drain in action?
On the underside of the big nylon gear, there is a little bump on one of the drain catches. This bump is used to trip the spring loaded arm during agitation to "set" the parts up for neutral draining. Either that bump on the gear or the spring loaded arm wear out so that the arm no longer gets set during agitation. You likely won't notice anything wrong with the naked eye. Easiest thing is to replace the whole kit.
You forgot to tell them about the correct orientation of ratchet gear on the bottom side of the plastic gear. These are not always on the gear when shipped. The flange side is not touching the gear. And make sure the spring clip that is holding tension on it is lined up correctly.
Angel I replaced the drain cup assy. and the clutch. Working fine on normal wash spinning and all. I selected extra rinse and it left me with the soggy cloths. What do you think.
HI Angel , I have a second transmission i want to rebuild to have as a spare. Is the neutral drain kit the only parts i need to replace inside the transmission? Besides the clutch and brake. Thanks for all the helpful videos
Because the broken plastic parts are in the oil and will break your new gears. IT'S COMMON SENSE. REPLACE YOUR OIL and clean out housing and gears or you'll end up with the same problem in a short period of time.
Angel. Would overtightening the prawl stud stop the neutral drain from resetting? I replaced my neutral drain and now the washer sometimes goes right into spin while draining. Is it possible I got a defective neutral drain kit? It seems to work fine when I test it (I have a bypass for the pressure switch and the lid switch) with no clothes or water. I'm thinking maybe it's a bit slower with a load and the friction from the sprawl stud is not allowing the rack retainer to move freely and create enough centrifugal force the swing the latch so it can grab the spin gear cam.
The plate mounting bolt/stud holds the plate down. Overtightening might break it. The Pawl Studs are just pivot points and that shouldn't be a point of difficulty. Maybe the pawl spring wasn't positioned right on one or one piece wasn't put in correctly?
Also I read that the large white gear has a wearable area responsible for resetting the catch. It gets worn down and ideally you would replace gear when doing this rebuild.
This is such a hard job ugh….I’d rather just get a speed Queen where this issue won’t ever happen as much as I love these DDs it’s just a lot of work and I don’t have the room for it
@@cleansebob1 When you live in a small tiny cramped apartment with no room to repair anything like that it’s a hard job. If I had a nice wide open area it would be a breeze with no problem. Lose the snarky attitude
I miss your narration, Appliance Man. Robot voice has no character.
Thanks for a great video. After watching this. I found a part with a broken spring. Parts on order. Really appreciate you teaching us.

Thanks. i was able to repair my transmission, awesome video

Also. Thank you very much for posting this fantastic video!!! So helpful.
This is outstanding instruction! Thanks. By the way, did you replace the transmission shaft seal while you had it open?

@@captain150 sounds like very likely culprits, being that those parts you're referring to are made of plastic.
Very Good Vid! Except for a plastic gear with the teeth ground off, what else wears out in the neutral assy? Hasn't made sense to me yet. Thx.

So how do you check the neutral drain and what does it do.this video says it will say how but all it was, was a replacement video

Is hard to say without been there to check the washer. I would make sure that the washer is draining properly
what the parts no. maytag washing machine tranmission replacements

I would replace the big plastic gear as well
Thank You
@@theapplianceman Hi could you tell me the cover seal part number for m# 11029852991? I think its WP3349985.. THANKS
Replace clutch with the commercial one..why dump oil out...if no water was in..leave oil in .!!
You won't see the water it will be at the bottom. Oil floats.
@wylykyotys Oil mixed-up with water will have a brownish milky look. That's how you know water has gotten in the transmission .

Hi sir. I do not have inch socket. May i ask what size of socket use for the 7pc hexagonal bolt on the top cover?
Takes a spanner wrench. Be sure to retighten until no slippage observed on spin tube between collar on reassembly
👍👍👍👍👍
Shit how common is the neutral drain versus that a bad clutch ?

My washer tur on the spin cycle but don't spin
Either bad transmission, motor coupler (probably) or something

Maybe that is why this whirpool model can last forever 😁. I have this model for 20 years, yet the new model only last 5 years
If you think this is a hard job then you probably don't need to be repairing anything...

I looked on parts sites, they were charging CAN$50 or $60 for the 16 oz. (475 mL) bottle of Whirlpool transmission oil... theft much?...
LOL Exactly. They're full of sh1t. Go get some 80W-90 gear oil for 9 bucks. Will work fine.
Damn AI Robots
I have everything new in the transmission new and the 90 oil is garbage, don't use garbage
