The MSQ's way of worldbuilding feels way too artificial i think. It feels like a guided tour (and they often are). The way they did it entire first half except maybe mamook is basically just tural history lecture classes. Wuk didnt help either because of her repetitive dialogue about learning culture and stuff. Unironically, for me the most natural worldbuilding they did in the msq is during the western section with erenville. Yeah it's filler. But we learn about the area through things happening, not being told by some dude yapping about history lesson before he hands us some rock candy.
I totally get a feeling that the Arcadion president is going to be a Kuja like character. With all the short lifespan and soul stuff just makes me think Trance Kuja is gonna be A12 with Nercon being the savage phase after he loses it and blows up the soul containing thingy of Arcadion.
We already had Zoraal Ja as the Kuja equivalent. Him getting hopped up on all those souls is a reference to Trance Kuja. Plus he's the brother of the main character.
@@the.duck.is.ronin. honestly didn't even see that kinda connection because there was so little flair and any kind of bombastic nature to Zoraal Ja. Hell off the top of my head we get only one or two mentions of what kind of relationship him or Wuk Lamet even have.
The relationship between Laana and her sisters also feels like a real sibling relationship. The innocent younger sister, the cooler more mysterious older sister. I didn't really feel that with Wuk, Koana and Zoraal Ja. (and I enjoyed MSQ minus my few gripes)
I unironically think the Arcadion story somewhat pokes fun at how... off the MSQ actually was. Like they identify 'hey, you're the hero!' and WL is nowhere to be seen. Writing feels much closer to older FF quality, and the fights are super creative and fun/fast.
I unironically wish Wuk Lamat was a part of it, and it doesn't really make sense why they'd call you a hero when you barely did anything this expansion.

What makes the Story even more interesting to me, the whole 'Immortalized' concept is quite the opposite of how the people of Solution 9 do things usually. They got spare Souls to revive themselves until old age or sickness kills them, then getting turned into a digital version of themselves...while those Fighters not only just die, but they even die early. Alexandria really is messed up when you look at how it treats Life
It's something that could have been so great to explore IN the msq but maybe we'll get it in the patches, at least it seems that's the direction the raid will go at least
I thoroughly enjoyed the Arcadion, doing the unlocks with my friends was probably the most fun I've had in the game since DT released. I've enjoyed the gameplay content, but experiencing the fights for the first time in Normal was just so fun. I was reluctant about whether or not I wanna do Savage this tier, because I wasn't feeling great about DT's MSQ, I had 3 days post-DT where I just didn't wanna log in until I wrote down the things that frustrated me about my experience with it. And now the Arcadion has really REALLY revitalized my interest for the content moving forward. I am really looking forward to entering Savage raiding this tier. My favorite fight is the 4th one. But the best music for me is in fights 1 and 2.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I was streaming this raid to a friend in vc going through it for the first time, and in the middle of M3 was thinking "Man these fights are fucking wild", and after completing it? I honestly think this is probably the best raid tier they've done imho. Pandaemonium was also good, but it never overtook the Eden raid series as my favorite. But Arcadion is shaping up to say "Move aside, Eden". And yeah the story I was more compelled to it than I was the DT MSQ, when the NPCs knew who you were, especially the bosses after the events of DT and in general? That was it, that got me locked in on the story for this raid. And with the fight design, like not even including savage, extreme, and ultimates, I was thinking "If this is how MSQ and expert content is, what is the normal raid gonna look like" because the fight design in DT is pretty awesome, and Arcadion did blow my expectations. I really, *really* wanna see what the 2nd, and 3rd tier look like
As i have mentioned i really compare Dawntrail to Stormblood cause both specifically had subpar MSQ but the content patches/gameplay of the expansions were good. Stormblood has arguably one of the best raid tiers in FF14 with Omega & the Arcadion is giving a very similar vibe....both are sort of tournament arcs in a sense with Omega setting up fights for the WoL to overcome and here its the same premise but instead of Omega we have a mysterious 'president'. My personal fave aspect of the Arcadion so far is that each fight has their own specific theme, no longer do we have to hear the same generic theme for every fight minus the last one, that was very prevalent in Pandemonium last tier where hearing the same song albiet changed slightly was getting repetitive.
Yeah im personally optimistic about the patch story's being significantly better (at least for me) than the .0 story and the content offering Dawntrail is set to have, especially with how good the fights have been so far, makes me super stoked for the future. And excellent point on each fight having it's own theme, helps make each fight feel unique and individualized
M1's floor breaking mechanic is pretty much just a funnier version of Shinryu EX Where Shinryu will target a party member to slame it's tail down, the party member has to find a proper spot for the tail
I played Summoner for the last 2 raid tiers after 8 years of maining a melee for savage. I went back to Reaper for Dawntrail and one of the things i'm looking forward to the most is optimizing and working for uptime, because even in normal it's already evident it won't be nearly as easy as it was in Endwalker's raids with its giant hitboxes. And even though the story is apparently going to get serious i love the overall whacky feel of this tournament, because at the end of the day it's entertainment for the Alexandrians and fights like Honey B. Lovely and the freaking wrestling storyline for the Bomber guy are a perfect fit.

Like other OST boss fights i could my brain off to the music but the catchy lyrics trying to steal my focus away while trying to dodge the hearts on the 1st blind run added an extra bit of fun into that boss fight for me.
The greatest thing in those raids is truly the commentator, he is great and I hope SE will continue having more voice acting and dynamic responses within the raids. The fights itself, well i'm actually not as enthusiastic as most people i believe. In my taste it's a bit too much "Dodge left side aoe, dodge right side aoe", it feels they overdid it this time. it's literally the 4th boss only real mechanic and she has that 2 times, one with the gun, one with her hand. The first and third boss also use that mechanic pretty prominently. I also was a bit disappointed about the visual design of the bosses, it's 4 humanoids, a bit too similar for my tastes, would have wished for at least one abstract, beast-like or monster boss. Also something minor: kinda weird that they acknowledge that we enter the ring as 8 guys vs one but we're being called "the one who doesn't use bullshit to win fights". Story actually feels like it's gonna be Paper Mario TTYD Chapter 3, lol Definately the best part of Dawntrail so far, but honestly wasn't enough to not let run out my subscription today, but i'm happy at least there is something people start enjoying this expansion.
With the unmitigated disaster that was this waste of an MSQ, the Raid needed to knock it out of park. I really think they did it. The visuals, the music, the theme- all are incredible. But then again I love J-Pop and the insane themes/imagery of Idols. My toon is an idol. So this is right up my alley
This raid felt so good, that I might just give Savage a shot! Waaaaaaay more interesting than MSQ, I did like the overall themes but the execution was dog. I put this MSQ lower than both ARR and SB as the weakest story part of FFXIV
Not everyone is loving it. Apparently people are asking for it to be nefed because they feel it’s too hard. Supposedly it’s the casuals who are asking this but who knows. It’s all on the forums so take that what you will but me personally it was a breath of fresh air in terms of difficulty

They could use raid's way of story telling through battle to replace some of cut scenes in MSQ
Coil of Bahamut was great for this. Sadly in 1.0, the dev thought it a good idea to lock story content behind savage mode.
