Winter Hood River Bikepacking Adventure

- Getting the motivation to ride in the Pacific Northwest this time of year can be difficult. It’s dark a lot of the day with less than 9 hours of daylight, it is wet and cold...so when a weather window comes, you take advantage of it!
Rob strung together some routes we’ve done as day rides and the deschutres river trail giving us an overnighter only an hour and a half from portland.
This would be our second bikepacking trip of 2022 and we knew it would be cold.

Note: This was the route as we mapped and and we followed it pretty close but there may be a few deviations

I had a riding buddy like Rob when I lived in NW Oregon. I was 33 and he was 58, which I always thought was unusual, but we were kindred spirits nonetheless. We had the best time mountain biking together. I like to think we would've loved and thrived transitioning from mountain biking into bikepacking, but we both had to move away for work, him to South Carolina and I went to Idaho. I sure do miss my riding buddy. Watching you two brings back all those fond memories.✌️

The PNW is pretty, I'll give it that. Too damp and cold, though, for me. Before moving to Denver in 2012, I spent 14 years in Wisconsin - winters there are too damn long, cold, snowy, and miserable. Being from SoCal, I prefer dry and moderate temps as I get older. :)

Thanks for watching! I'd recommend doing the Oregon Stampede in preparation for your OR outback ride! The route is a pretty good representation of the type of terrain you'll be on while doing the Outback. The Stampede actually has some of the same track as the OR Outback! You guys were in my home town and you didnt invite me?? Lol... I actually saw you guys coming down Old Moody Rd towards the bottom near the Deschutes on Saturday afternoon. I was in the silver Subaru Outback. I did a token wave, but when I realized it was you yahoos it was too late. I was stoked for a Chris & Rob sighting! Wish we could have chatted. Maybe we'll cross paths again. @mikeinhoodriver
Hey Mike, that is funny you saw us. I kinda remember seeing you.
A friend had just called me at that spot. I was complaining that the road was steep and I was freezing. He was less than sympathetic!
We also ran into a guy on the river that we met in Utah. On Sunday we met a guy named Joe from Hood River that recognized us.
So fun to meet people out there getting after it!
