I had been firing the regular PX4 Compact for 5 years and I'm in love with it. I remember "expert shooters" and salesman not recommending me this gun, because it was a "piece of crap", "sigs are the best" and so on and on. I bought it anyway and man, it is fantastic. Now all the experts on UA-cam want one, is like a big revelation to the world of guns.

I know too many gun salesmen who are just like that. Instead of educating the consumer and giving them the pros and cons when they ask for recommendations, they tend to usually just recommend Glocks, Sigs, and sometimes S&W's M&P line (mainly the Shield for carry). With Beretta's special pricing, I think the APX line have some of the best deals available for handguns of varying sizes. They usually range from just under $300-350 max. I was buying ammo a month ago and overheard a conversation between a salesman and a customer who was looking to buy their first home defense pistol. The customer was inquiring on the full size APX because they liked how it looked and it was under $400. The salesman told them to look at the Glock 17 instead because it was the most popular full size handgun they sell before going on a spew of how reliable Glocks are and how rich Glock's firearm history is. Didn't mention anything about why the Glock 17 was better functionally or why the APX is bad besides it not selling as well. To be fair though the Glock 17 was more expensive and the salesman could have be trying to upsell instead of giving the customer a reason to buy a cheaper gun. I personally do love Glocks but I can see the bias when someone likes to mention Glock's longevity and background while discrediting Beretta's who has been around for much longer.

Wow, thanks for confirming what I’m experiencing. I’m a new gun licensee and have spoken to a few gun experts and friends that are cops and they carry Glocks and Berettas. They all are complimentary of both. When I went to a few gun shops they all tried to talk me out of the Beretta and directed me to Glock and Sig. Are they getting paid more to sell those guns. All the experts in all the videos speak very highly of the PX Storm et all... very confused. I’m a little skeptical of all these videos but they can’t all be wrong or bad.

I’ve shot Sigs, I’ve shot Glock, I’ve shot Springfields, I’ve shot CZs and more. My favorite handgun...Beretta PX4 Compact Carry. Once people get used to the first pull in DA, the SA action is so smooth and clean that it’s almost hard to believe. I shoot better and faster with the PX4 than any other gun that I’ve ever shot. For a carry gun, the PX4, for me, is off the charts. I’m a big guy though...6’, 240lbs...lifelong Olympic style weight lifter and martial artist. It’s a fair bit bigger than a Sig 365, Springfield Hellcat and other popular carry guns. Like any handgun, you’ve gotta put your hands on it, run it through some paces and get a good feel for it. The full size grip is a huge plus for me, especially when swapping mags.

UFCPR absolutely. Cool thing about this particular gun is the aftermarket support. The base LTT version is a very cool gun. There are a handful of options added/replaced on the gun making this a big pickup from any off the shelf gun. As you improve, so can the gun with added options from Langdon Tactical. Fact is, the DA action IS your safety. You don’t get that with any striker fired gun. Every pull of the trigger on a striker fired gun is the same. With a DA/SA gun, the DA pull IS your safety. It’s a very deliberate pull...followed by the much easier SA pulls. Suggestion: Shoot a DA/SA gun to see if you like it. It’s definitely not for everyone. If you do, then the Beretta PX4 Compact Carry is an outstanding CCW option, IMO.

I really like how this video maker, J Helmsing gets right to the point at the start of the video -- instead of having to put the view through annoying music and him shooting 50 rounds at a target to start the video, like most others do. Good job. Very informative.

I have the original PX4 Storm Compact. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I used my Glock 17 the first time I qualified for my concealed carry permit. My scores weren't bad at all. However, I qualified the following 2 times with my PX4 compact, and my scores improved drastically. This has been my choice ever since. I agree they are a bit pricey, but this is one of those "You get what you pay for" guns. Well worth every cent.

After watching your video on your PX4 C in FDE , I felt the same way and was about to put my PX4 for sale. However, overtime I made some minor changes to it and has really helped me become more accurate with it . As of today, it has turned into my favorite 9mm compact carry.
Changes I made to my PX4 over time: 1. Remove right slide release lever and cap it off. 2. Installed the Beretta D hammer spring. None of those modifications at the time, really changed my mind about the gun. 3 I then installed some texturized Talon grips. This addition to the gun is really the most important change I did and it totally improved my gun control and accuracy. 4 I recently replaced the hammer spring with a Beretta Wilson combat #12 and the double action pull and feel is great - extremely accurate in double action.
Thanks for your videos. Really looking forward to see shooting comparison of both PX4 guns.

Great review J. Keep cranking out videos. I think you're one of the better reviewers out there and you're only going to get better as time goes on and you build upon your already impressive knowledge. You're also honest and insightful without being condescending or CATERING to manufacturers. It's also nice to see a reviewer willing and gracious enough to "eat crow" by reversing your opinion upon further inspection and insight into a pistol. That's refreshing and helps establish trust. I've seen people change their mind after finally shooting a pistol they disagreed with conceptually (e.g. Glock 19x), but I don't remember anyone responding to their viewers' comments enough to give such an earnest attempt to go back and reevaluate a pistol they had had a lackluster experience with (and returning with a glowing review). Serious man, great stuff and keep up the good work!

Good Stuff J, well presented. I just purchased a slightly used PX4 compact 9mm (not the fancy one, the stock one) and it hasn't arrived yet but I'm doing pretty much the same stuff you did to your "non-LTT" gun, competition trigger set and D spring from Beretta, G mod, night sights. I was very happy to see your overall approval of this gun...the folks that own it seem to really love it. Thanks for the video...well done.

I’ve had my storm compact for bout 10 yrs now and still going strong. Pretty much stock except for trigger spring upgrade and nite sights. I did purchase a light from amazon for a reasonable price and after a little filing of the rear edges, I got it to fit real snug. Worked just fine at the range, no problems. The light doesn’t have a big brand name but it’s called, Hi Light - HLP5S- tactical LED.. Pistol feels and shoots great. While it’s my EDCC, it’s a little heavy and bulky and can be challenging for an all day concealed carry. Really Good review. Thanks.

I have been wanting to get this gun, but every time I rent one at the range, I end up going back to my M9A3 and 92FS. The guns are trying to tell me something. So I ended up getting the 92G Elite LTT and absolutely love it. Perhaps someday I'll get the PX4 CC. But the wife says I need another gun like I need a hole in the head, which she says she'll do if I get another gun anytime soon. Hopefully the "anytime soon" leaves me a little wiggle room. Thanks for the vid.

Picked up my Compact Carry "used" about 2 weeks ago for 400 at my local gun show. This is a home run at 600-650 like you said but I must say if you can find a barely used one like I did I HIGHLY reccomend it. My favorite pistol I've shot. The competition trigger group is one piece, and comes right out. I bought it on sale for $85(!!!). The stealth levers were around $50, but I’m expecting the new stealth levers in the mail today. They have a bit of a nub to aid in decocking. The 12# mainspring that Ernest uses is not stock on the Compact Carry, and that was $10. The cerakote is unnecessary. I was fine with the stock sights, but did paint a bright orange dot on the front sight. Trigger pull is about 6.5lbs DA, and 3.5lbs SA. I bought the pistol on sale for around $375 shipped. You could just go with the 12# mainspring, and the Ernest Langdon new stealth decocker levers. I’d ditch the ambidextrous slide release as well. Hope that helps.

I’ve been mauling the idea of going back to DA/SA for about a year now since I appendix carry, and this particular gun has given me tingly feelings for a while! However, the extra weight along with the additional slide width with the same round count and longer grip bothers my efficient side when moving away from my Glock 19 and 26. Also, I can’t help but fear that (despite my best efforts) a DA trigger pull will give me sloppy trigger control habits, especially when I pick up a striker fired gun again in my rotation.

    • @tobylmiller
      @tobylmiller 5 років тому +1

Check out the series of videos John Correia did with Ernest Langdon. They talk about the guns (Carry, Compact Carry, and the new 92 Elite LTT) and DA/SA in general... GOOD STUFF! Also, Lucky Gunner's Chris Baker has some really great videos on why he made the move back to DA/SA. Interestingly, Baker says what I've heard many say - that series training with the DA/SA has made them a better shooter all around. A great reason to make the switch with Beretta DA/SAs is that the trigger break is in virtually the same spot for both DA & SA trigger pulls - one of the many reasons top Langdon prefers Beretta DA/SAs. :)

    • @justice4053
      @justice4053 5 років тому +1

Yes, I’ve seen those videos and they are great. I totally agree that mastering a DA/SA will make a person a better shooter in the long run. Still... I fear the fact that I know I will always have striker fired pistols in my carry line-up due to their compactness and light weight. I have the upmost respect for Langdon and his winning and practical shooting techniques. However, certain techniques of his (like starting to press the trigger while still presenting his DA/SA on target so the trigger is ready to break when you achieved a good sight picture) are techniques that I think a person could only utilize if they’ve decided to completely disown any other type of pistol other than DA/SA. Otherwise, a person is asking for potential disaster during a high stress moment when presenting their (fill in blank) short travel striker trigger on target.
With that being said, I do LOVE DA/SA! There is also a certain nostalgia about them that speaks to me in this identically molded cookie cutter gun world. I still want this gun!

@@justice4053 Yeah I think you have to commit to DA/SA or DAO if you want to carry it. Not a bad thing, but you have far fewer options. I wish some manufacturer (Beretta, CZ, or Sig) would design a modern polymer DA/SA carry gun that's 1 or 1.5 stack (like the P365) to compete with the newer carry options from Glock and Sig.

I am a confirmed, certified and licensed “range revisionist.” My friends would ask me about which guns to buy and after I ran through my recommendations based upon a "needs analysis" then they’d go out and buy the latest internet-popular “bright and shiny.” We’d go to the range and I’d let them fire a few magazines with their new guns before I’d offer to let them fire my Beretta PX4 CC (Langdon’s top-of-line version). At the end of the magazine load they’d turn and curse me for not insisting that they at least try the CC first. It happened with my chiropractor too. She offered to buy it on the spot. So I gave her Langdon Tactical’s web address and told her she could buy the same model from Langdon, just be ready to lay out the cash for all the “bells and whistles” on the site. . . I can't get over the retail on this. Beretta has waaaaay too high of an opinion on themselves. Then I saw the Dallas location of the Beretta shop on Mockingbird Lane. Holy shit balls it's like a Gucci store in Beverly Hills, not a gun shop. Their rent there alone must be 3x the average gunshop. They make it really hard to get behind them sometimes. But yeah I really want the px4 storm cc.

If the G43X has a +P approved barrel , and you are happy with 10 rounds
The that would be a very good CCW !
The problem with thin guns which is the major current draw card for CCW
Is that thin guns with exact three finger grips and no grip overhang
Is the round capacity , and the industry is trying to avoid the trade off between a thin CCW versus round capacity trade off !
The P365 is not a reliable option unfortunately !
    # # #
So if 13 - 15 rounds is a necessity , then that is where Glock double stacks with interchangeable mags comes into the fray :
    G26
    G19
    Etc
    # # #
The prerequisite for a CCW is that the barrel must be +P Approved
And the gun must be reliable !
    # # #
That is what puts GLOCK FIRST ! ! !
    # # #
And that is what makes the Beretta PX4 models are small consideration
I carry the PX4 Compact standard version , and it is too heavy and too bulky
But it has a nigh competition barrel and all other features I require
It definitely is a accurate gun once you learn the sights
And the back sight has to be perfectly aligned vertically and horizontally with the front sight in your aim , or you will absolutely not attain accuracy !
But once you learn the sights - Then it is extremely accurate , and promotes serious confidence as a CCW !
    # # #
The best self defense ammunition is undoubtedly Speer GOLD DOT HOLLOW POINT ( +P )
    FACT ! ! !
    # # #
My recommendations are as follows :
    G43X
    G19
    G26

Very informative, especially regarding some of the negatives. Shifting gears, I have to say that you speak very rapidly, so much so that a few times I had to go back and replay to get what you were saying. If you transcribed everything you spoke onto the written page you would be hard pressed to find a comma, much less a period. As professional television producer I've seen this rapid speech issue before. If you are open to some free advice, slow down a bit. Take a breath. There is no race to get to the end. It's OK to pause -- put in period, or at least a comma. Also if you're going to do a review please know the dimensions rather than estimate them. It should only take a few extra moments to write that stuff down. Thanks for your review of this interesting gun.

I'm 5'9" and have been carrying a .40 PX4 Compact for over 5 years now. I have over 5000 rounds through it without a single issue. I have never once hit the decocker by accident. About 2 years ago I converted it to the G model (decocker only) by simply removing a spring and ball bearing. I also installed the Beretta competition trigger, which I believe is the same trigger as in the Compact Carry model. It's a fantastic gun that has seen a lot of abuse (I'm in construction) and has never had a malfunction of any sort.
