- While things are clear in the Twin Cities, other spots in the Midwest dealt with some snow, that resulted in some crashes -- including a pileup in Des Moines, Iowa.

If you car is still running after the crash, get off the freeway!
Exactly this.
AND THEN STAY OUT OF THE ROAD!
And for the love of God, don’t get out and walk around on the highway!!
I will never understand how people don't understand this. They seem to think that they have to leave the car right where it is so the cops can investigate. Unless someone is injured or killed....the cops don't care what happened.
I always thought you were supposed to get out and stand next to your car with a sign that said "hit me!"
It's snowing and people are driving like it's summer smh.
The lack of logic and common sense is baffling.

"You know what seems like a good idea? Getting out of my car and walking around on this ice rink where I literally just lost control and crashed." Natural selection works, people.
Why do idiots always get OUT OF THEIR CARS?
So they can get hit by other cars
They're Darwin Award nominees.
There to hot ad they need ladies to see them in the cold in order to cool down 😛
Pinheads, Pinballs...eh
Because that is how they teach you during driving school
The truck driver that turned his hazard lights on, to slow down traffic behind him, is the real HERO! That swift action prevented many more crashes. Hats off to ya!!
Ice - the mortal enemy of 4WD and ego.
If you miss your exit, it's best to jerk the wheel suddenly on ice. That way your trip is more exciting.
True.
👍😂🥶
LMHO..so good…still laughing.
All of these incidents can be avoided by simply going slower.
True, but going slower would have to be universal or you'll be rear-ended for sure.
@@rcnelson- and you can get charged with careless driving for not driving with the flow of traffic . People do not drive to the road conditions .
But I'm a hardass in a pickup! I can do 100mph on ice and stop on a dime!
@@donborvio - yes some can 👍🏻
@@Lampwick-dz1zq LOL feel free to test that on your own, hopefully not around other vehicles.
Bro that first truck just did a whole 360 and parked itself to to side.
Minneapolis driver’s are the GOATs of winter driving.
Thanks, I'll take that. You betcha!
People just refuse to drive slowly in inclement weather.

@@Feather-yk8su LOL! The first measure taken by anyone with an ounce of intelligence is to slow down on wet pavement. The coefficient of friction on wet pavement is about 30% lower than on dry pavement. If you're not driving 30% slower then you're a dangerous idiot.
The LEAST common thing in America appears to be common sense.
These people just don't listen. You are supposed to speed up when the roads are slick so you get through it quicker.
Lol
The first segment is a perfect example of how all-season tires behave on winter roads. Don't spare money for winter tires.... A miser pays twice...
To be fair *no* tire is going to be of any use on solid ice. Nor is four-wheel drive.
Gotta have winter tires for winter, that little fender bender would have paid for the best you can get
"Winter tires" aren't going to do a damn thing if you're going too fast for road conditions. Slow down!
@@jhopkins213 you would be surprised what you can do, at least you get out of the way of those who are driving to fast.
Very often they will, actually.

this is no joke snow/ice specific tires are 3x better than all seasons. they are a significantly softer compound for good flexing in cold temps and have many tiny slits that grip ice and snow. anyone who says diffrent prolly cant afford another set of wheels to mount winter tires on anyway.
Always drive FAST in snow and ice .... it is FUN.
If a car starts burning on a German Autobahn the police will stop all traffic on this side, but often the cars seeing the burning will block traffic first. Then the cars standing in the blocked Side are forced by law to build an emergency lane to make sure the fire engines, police and ambulance can arrive fast. If you block that emergency lane or use it to drive through you'll get at least a hefty fine if not a suspension of your drives license.
Here in Germany we're also obligated to use winter tires. Most people drive them from October to Easter (sometimes to End of April).
That makes so much sense! Here in the USA there are places where people don't move out of the way for emergency vehicles like they should. It seems to be in larger cities. Where I live we pull off to make room for them to get by.
People that stop in the middle of the road when their vehicle can get off the interstate on it's own power should be arrested.
Interstate 80 between Omaha and Des Moines consistently has sooooooo many vehicles in the ditch in wintry weather that it's hardly believable.
You mean Omaha and Davenport
It ain't winter down South until we cozy up with a cup of java and watch the seasonal Midwest icy winter crash vids. 👍👍
And then in the spring, summer and fall, run away from hurricanes and tornados every day!
@@ericpl7227 Keep telling yourself that so you don't come down here and bother folks.
And this is why in the winter, I stay home in my apartment as much as possibly doable. If the roads are in poor shape, mom will have to do without me coming over. Same goes for trying to go to church during this kind of weather, I'm sure our good Lord Jesus would want me to be safe at home instead of trying to get to church and put my ass on the line trying to do so. Besides I don't mind watching chalice of salvation on WWLP.
It really is quite amazing the amount of people who don't realise they are driving on ice, especially in modern cars that have frost warnings!
great to see all my relatives in Minn. have learned a thing in 150 years.
When your lights "SHINE" on the road, you should know and slow down. Black Ice is usually on overpasses because there is nothing to insulate it, BUT it can catch you off guard. When I was a freshman in college I hit black ice and I slide a 180 degree. I no longer drive in snow or ice. Please be careful and safe.
The speed as well -- typically way too fast for the conditions
Too many arrogant AWD people.
They drive way to fast.
Given average winter temps alone, winter tires should be required on vehicles in the Midwest part of the year.
Your all-season tires aren’t really effective in sub-20F weather, and even up to freezing are still severely compromised.
Winter tires still don’t allow you to drive without caution but they make a huge difference vs ‘all-season’.
We always changed our tires out in Minnesota
Gotta have winter composition ice-ready tires like Blizzak or Michelin X-ice.
Nokian Hakkapeliitta@@PackFan-tv5pj
Nope, we pay taxes to the road commission to clear off the roads for winter driving. It's nobody's responsibility to buy winter tires the roads should be clear of ice, slush and snow
Are you going to foot the bill?!
It's unreal how poor a driver the average person is.
People are driving too close. They would be too close, if the roads were good, and they're not.
I gots me a truck I can drive 100 mph in the winter. famous last words.
I've spun out on the interstate before, and my very first thought was to get OFF and away from the icy patch I just hit!!
I can't believe people getting out of their vehicles and walking around. How dumb can you be?
4 crashes and 2 car fires
Driving tests should just be done in a hockey rink.
I have lived in Minnesota my whole life and have spent over 40 years driving in the winters here.
Decades ago we had six inches of snow one night so I did not go to work driving until almost noon to give the plows a chance to clear the roads. I had no problems driving on the hiways to get to work driving slower than normal.
I only worked a half day and by the time I drove home the hiways for the most part were clean and dry and traffic was moving at posted speeds with no issues. When it came time to to take my down hill exit I instantly knew I was in trouble. I could not see the exit condition until I was at the top and for some reason it had not been plowed yet. I came onto the exit too fast for all that snow and touched the brakes with ruts in the snow going all over the place. This was before anti-lock breaks and I instantly went into a spin. Luckily I was driving a manual clutch car and popped the clutch and spun around twice on the way down the ramp. Traffic was light so there was no one else on the ramp and I hit the end of the ramp perfectly straight on with a green light. The two lanes cutting across the end of the ramp were bone dry, my tires instantly grabbed, engaged the clutch, and I turned right like nothing happened and drove a couple block home.
Luckily there were no cars waiting at the bottom of the ramp or traffic crossing the intersection for me to hit. I was lulled into complacency because the main six lane hiway was clear and dry and all the other ramps I used and passed were fine. I was not expecting my exit ramp to not have been plowed and from the ruts there numerous others had issues exiting as well. At that time the exit ramp was straight, later it was modified to put a curve in it with a collection pond at the bottom. If someone did the same thing thing today I think they would spin off the road and could easily flip or end up where the pond is located.
Believe me I always slow down before I get to my exit now as I never want it to happen again.
And you write super long emails complaining about tiny details. 😴

I wish all these vids had as good cam quality as that last clip.
This is where schools have failed us, teaching people patience and that it is okay to slow down in bad weather and that your inconvenience isn't worth yours or another person's life or property.
Slow and steady wins the race...
I can't for the life of me understand why people are driving so fast during winter weather. It isn't difficult to ascertain the potential of icy roads when the temperature drops to freezing. Slow the hell down folks.
So many Darwin Award winners. Hard to choose a single winner!
The dually on fire was probably a frozen radiator. Things will seem fine for a few miles, then temp spike.
Only a Ram can manage to catch fire in sub-freezing temps.😂😂😂

Never hit the breaks when you start sliding on ice.
Vehicles don't have breaks.
@briansmyla8696 oh thank you for clarifying this. Your a god send.
@@briansmyla8696 I'm glad you said that, you really made a great contribution with your comment.
What are 'breaks'? What is broken on the vehicle?

Stay home
I realize that this might be a new concept to you, but some people work for a living! You should try it sometime!
Why do people ALWAYS get out of their vehicle? It’s a great way to make angels.
People not driving to the road conditions .
Well, it seems that the Olympics of summer tire lovers has begun.
Prime example of the continued ignorance of decades of driving without caution
Here in Scotland Winters can be 6 months long, but we drive slowly with the appropriate chains of course, something that seems to be missing in this film.
#1 - if you come upon an emergency (crash, fire, etc.) move you vehicle out of the flow of traffic - you don’t want to become part of the emergency. #2 - call 9-1-1 - don’t assume someone has already done that. #3 - if safe to do so, render aid. Don’t forget, you don’t want to become part of the emergency. #4 - Once emergency responders have been dispatched, especially to a controlled access highway, it will take at least 10 minutes, probably more for them to get to the scene. #5 - Drive safely!
Where i live it´s mandatory with winter tires from December 1 to March 31, it saves a lot of accidents.
Stay in your car until help arrives
The title of this video needs to be changed to “Midwest winter crash COMPETITION”.
Accidents would be lessened simply by spreading [sprinkling] a thinner layer over the ice for traction. Including snowed over areas.
Here's why.... you slow down in ice! People still don't seem to understand this concept even on a freeway. Don't go over 50mph in ice on a freeway. Get into the slow lane.
Why do these not so bright individuals just sit in their vehicles after spinning around and then proceed to cause more accidents becuase they don't move off the roadway. What are you just sitting there for? Unless your vehicle will not move, get off the highway!!!
It's called "driving too fast for conditions".
Crappiest drivers in the US drive 1 any BMW, 2 F-150, 3 any Nissan, 4 Dodge Challenger/Charger
Please drive carefully everyone.
never get out of you car unless you are getting out of your car to get off the road.
Is it a requirement for cops to park a hundred yards away?
Vehicle fires are becoming a common theme nowadays, I wonder what it could be..?
THE FIRE VIEW WAS OUT OF LUCKY WITH THE CAR WITH PEOPLE.
Put a late model Lincoln Zephyr in it but then it would get complicated CAB would make you be it’s emissions year
Can you translate that to English?

I’ll give you a dime to a dollar that the vast majority of these vehicles that spun out were not equipped with the appropriate winter tires!
Winter tyres or not, the vast majority were driving too fast for the weather and road conditions and incapable of taking appropriate, safe recovery action.
never had winter tires, nor a 4 wheeled drive vehicle, I live in Canada.. we drive for the conditions and coast not slam the brakes, we leave extra time.
its ppl thinkin "I gots 4 wheeled drive , i'm good" its for going NOT stopping.
also not supposed to use cruise control in winter.
as a newbie driver I did get my first crash bc I hit some black ice... minor bc I wasn't going anywhere near the speed limit(80 KM)so I didn't cross the median or spin around, just went to the ditch. I was going about half that... or less.
Too fast for conditions, following too close, and just incompetency in general = what you see in the video.
How can people who live anywhere that gets below zero temperatures not know how to drive on ice and snow?
"We're too stupid to put on winter tyres......"the summer tyre fan club!!"
Avoid bridges in icy weather if you can.
How stupid are they?
But I thought only southern drivers “don’t know how to drive “ in the winter…..
That's what I'm talkn about.
I'm from the south.. South West Louisiana to be exact. We're in a freeze right now, and they've shut down the city, pretty much all Parish, Government and State offices, even schools in most or all parishes. The ones of us that have sense. 😂
We'd prefer to just stay off the roads at all cost Unless its an emergency.
Cuz we can do that.😂
I don't get it. Why are these seasoned snow drivers driving like a bat outa h*ll..
I guess cuz they can..
😂
Lets drive fast when the roads are icy. What could go wrong.....
No snow tires or chains with too much speed what can go wrong?
Remember; all-season tyres, aren't.
These drivers have very little understanding of the effects of ice on a roadway. The friction is practically zero, which contributes little to the ability of the driver to control the vehicle moving at high speeds or braking.
What's truly funny is how people keep driving fast even after seeing 3 or 4 crashed or parked cars. Also, when on the highway think like Yoda. Either you are in your car or you are not on the highway. You'll die standing there.
It has to be all those cow farts causing this.
From the start why was that road even open?
You know... how it's called... "The fear has big eyes." Many people make stupidities on a straight place, just from nothing.
Maybe it’s just the clips used in the video but I still haven’t seen people slide and crash this bad or drive so fast in snow up in Minnesota. Yes there are still many wrecks each year in MN, but I also wonder if Minnesotans would be so used to snow that we’re just more cautious. A lot of times I see people drive too slow that theirs cars get stuck from not enough traction before i see someone drive fast and crash, the interstate is always a different story though when the speed is 70
I myself rolled over my 04 F-150 in 2023 and destroyed it from sliding off the road and rolling down the ditch before hitting a tree. However that was caused from rain when it was February and froze the road because trees were giving it shade.
Meanwhile my current vehicle isn’t able go as fast as 35mph when the road is covered in snow plus I get more anxious about stopping and possibly getting stuck in the road than I do losing total control 😅
Fox 9 Minneapolis St Paul I have a simple question and what is the purpose of this video other than to give people something they can exercise their thumbs pontificating the whichness of whatness from their couch or while sitting on their porcelain throne
5:21 it's sure zero emmission 😂😂😂😂
people would do well to take a skidding course so that you know what to do in these weather conditions. And don't forget to put on winter tires, you won't get through here with summer tires.
Turn INTO the spin.
YD has that course, if you want to simulate ice.. dirt roads are great for that.
we always use "all season" tires.
ppl love pumpin the brakes and honking horns instead of getting themselves out of the situation.
8min worth of a car fire? Really!
To bad Minneapolis does not take care of the icy roads’😢
If you can't stop in time you drive too fast.
My mom always told me the dumbest people in the country are in CA, MD & the Midwest.
Wtf drive so fast??? Like they don't see it's a sheet of ice on the road.
That first one was just like a ballerina!
Crazy! That’s why I hate winter
it doesn't take a genius to know when roads are like this you go under the speed limit.......duh! the posted speed limits are meant for roads at normal conditions and you should pay attention if there are any signs or weather reports on your local stations about ice conditions.
Why is insurance so expensive??? Have you driven anywhere? Oh, you didn't notice because you were buried in your phone.
Not sure how a carbacue is a winter crash.
And they say people in Texas don't know how to drive on icy roads
Hey y'all, I got this here four wheel drive and I can go through any snow and ice at 60mph like it was a clear road on a nice sunny day! Well, ok. Most of the time anyway.
Almost 7 minutes of this 11-minute video is about a solitary pickup truck fire that was neither a crash nor had nothing to do with winter weather. Save your time and go to the next video!! 👎
Crash=Sliding followed by brake and panic steering wheel turn.
global warming
Good to know this happens in places used to having this kind of weather. I thought stupid was reserved for Texas drivers only!
No comparison to just Milwaukee roads… the pot holes (that taxpayers have paid 5 times over to get fixed,) have nothing on the epidemic of bad driving out here
People's brains just can't put together the fact that the posted speed limit is meant for ideal conditions. Sunny, dry pavement in perfect visibility conditions. If it's raining you slow down, if there is fog you slow down more, if it's icy best not to be on the road but if you are don't drive at the speed limit, in other words for the dummies, going 55 or faster on icy roads is a REAL BAD IDEA!!!!!!! you shouldn't be going faster than 35 . Have snow tires or studded tires in certain parts of the country.
