    It's time for Toronto fans to artificially inflate Swayman's next deal. When Marner was expiring 5 years ago Boston fans, and even Marchand, kept hyping him up to the media. Time to return the favour

      Other teams would pay up to have Swayman locked up long term. I think he holds out. If Boston didn't table that offer to Swayman's representatives, I wouldn't be surprised if the next thing to come from his representatives is a Lawsuit. Just by his agent's comments by waiting a few days and see what options are available. That means meeting with Lawyers and taking their advice. He also has the same agent as Nylander so we already know Swayman doesn't sign for under his number

    Bruins wanted the shorter term deal. Swayman wants the full 8-years.
    His agent (Lewis Gross, who you guys know from Nylander) has come out and said that this was the first time the 64 million figure was brought up. They were never presented with a contract that high.
    So, 1 of 2 things is really happening here. Either:
    1. The Bruins never presented this offer before mouthing off at a press conference and are therefore terrible at negotiating and would be outing themselves as the most bad-faith management team in the league.
    Or:
    2. The Bruins did present his agent with the $64 million offer and he declined without presenting it to Swayman and is now trying to save face by saying they never got it
    Which do you think is more likely?

      Are you kidding? They want to lock him up at less than market value now. He knows a 2-3 year deal is better for him and WAY worse for the Bruins, because they don't want to have to give him a massive raise or look for a new starter in 2-3 years.

      Literally there is a reason no UFAs resign in boston and the reason why they're always scraping together a depth roster of borderline AHL lifers and guys desperate to hang on in the league and they have to lean into "big bad bruins" identity. It's the only people who are cheap enough.

Because players have a salary cap, owners don't have a profit cap. That's why. If a good player walks away because of money, that's how it goes.

    Absolutely in Swayman's corner on this. Is anyone going to reasonably argue he's less valuable than Sorokin today, let alone from ages 25-33 vs 29-37 when these deals would run in parallel? If I'm Sway I'd consider accepting both 1yr QO and walking to UFA. You lose 6-8M during those 2 RFA years but you make an additional 18M+ in the same timeframe. Or just wait until Shesterkin signs for 12M and take Boston to Arb in the final RFA year.

  • @garthd7145
    @garthd7145 14 годин тому +3

    Swayman would be a FOOL to sign an 8x8M deal. He'd be signing away SIX years of free agency for an AAV that is below market value for him today.
    If Boston wants him for eight years the AAV has to be eight figures.

    Oh boy, Adam. 8x8 not enough for a goalie whose numbers dropped when he played 7 more games the next season and has not yet played 55 games in one season. When he does, his numbers will drop again.
    And you think he’s owed more? Whoever ends up paying him $10M or more… imagine the pressure on him if he gets off to a slow start?
    Here’s the Bruins bad boy play. On December 2nd you trade him to Utah for their first pick. He gets zero for one year of his career and ends up on an absolutely crap team. Bruins get a #1.

    Sway is worth $8 or $8.5 the bruins have left to spend x however many years he agrees to. He isn't worth more at this point. Bruins fan opinions are souring fast. If he sits out a season just to make $8m more on the contract, he loses $8m for the season, so what is the benefit??

  • @Mike_Lorusso
    @Mike_Lorusso 13 годин тому

    so I watched the press conference to open the season, Swayman was obviously the focal point of discussion. The way Neely and Sweeney put it essentially says that the Bruins are a cup contender with or without Swayman...if this is the case, then the Bruins have 2 options - you either pay Swayman what he wants on the term he wants, or you trade him and get a large haul in return that tells us Bruins fans that you have a plan for the path forward as the legacy generation transitions out and into the youth taking over (and this is after Marchy retires when I say the youth take the reigns)

    I don’t get why Swayman thinks he’s worth so much? He’s had one good year. It wasn’t exceptional. They didn’t go deep in the playoffs. He played tandem with Ullmark all year. He hasn’t actually been tested enough. If he wants big money, he needs to sign a 2 year contract and play like an elite goalie, then negotiate again with the new salary cap.

      Shesterkin got 4x5.6M ($6M in today's cap dollars) with a little over 1/3 of the games played (47 games to Swayman's 122). Boston has to expect to pay Swayman more given his record.

      The cap going up can't be used as a reason for every player to get paid more... It's only going up a little each season. Sway, at $8m, would be the 5th highest active goalie salary.
