    I spoke to a former GM still around the NHL (family friend) who thought Xhekaj was going to get 10+ games and that most believed either 5 or 10 games. A fine is a dangerous precedent that i now think means G1 habs vs leafs is going to be full of injuries.

    The narrative that Ottawa's defence was bad last year and that's why the goalies sucked is not really supported by any of the data. Almost every single site that models expected goals had Boston and Ottawa as fairly comparable in terms of expected goals. Evolving hockey had Ottawa 18th to Boston's 14th in expected goals against at 5v5 (2.67 vs 2.59) and actually had Ottawa ahead in all situations (13th at 3.11 vs 14th at 3.16). Meanwhile hockey viz had Boston allowing 237.9 xG on the year compared to 231.4 xG on the year for Ottawa. The difference is that Boston's goalies stopped 30 goals above expected while Ottawa's goalies allowed almost 40 goals above expected. Now I think that Ottawa's defensive breakdowns were more catastrophic than Boston's, but Korpisalo was bad at saving the easy shots, not the hard ones (look at hockey viz's summary of goals vs expected by danger). Korpisalo will likely have a better season because it would be almost impossible to have a worse one, but it's not like he is going to be sheltered in Boston compared to Ottawa, it's likely going to be fairly similar.

    Swayman has Louis Gross as an agent …
    Notorious for being unable to sign for: Krug, Gaudreau, Nylander
    Yet everyone wants to attack the Bruins and Swayman himself.
    Neely saying what he said was probably to get around Louis Gross protecting Swayman from negotiations.
    The Gross statement seems like Louis protecting himself from seemingly witholding information from his clients. He probably has full rights to deal w this negotiation but swayman probably has no idea the bruins offered 64m. Hence; the statement to make the bruins seem like they didn’t tell this information. Why would can lie about offering 64m? What does he have to gain by admitting that?.. nothing.. especially if Sway ends up signing for that!..

    NHLPA needs to get involved quietly. If you hear what the ex-players are saying (that's different from what the non-player talking heads). None of the ex-players are talking about Xhekaj. Take note. It's a problem when the AHL players cannot handle the stars, and too many stars are getting injured. The NHL needs to get it right. The referees are too often part of the problem. Not even a Habs fan but calling that a “freak accident” is total Toronto homer bs. The slow motion clearly shows the leafs player extending his knee to block Laine from entering the zone. Clearly a dangerous play that was intentional. Not saying he meant to hurt him but he certainly meant to make a dangerous play to stop his entry. The fact there was no call at all is disgusting.

      @ChilkoXX Місяць тому +2

      Laine has to take some responsibility, it was a powerplay in preseason, and he was trying to stickhandle through 2 leafs at the blue line? It was kinda of a dumb play on his part. Not excusing the hit at all.

    • @mcthunderstick2374
      @mcthunderstick2374 Місяць тому +2

      @@ChilkoXX I can find several hundred examples of big forwards stick handling through multiple defencemen at the blue line. I don’t see any responsibility for Laine in this situation. Legs wide like that is very common anchor technique for even AA players. Making a check by extending one’s knee to block their movement is dangerous in 100% of leagues and it’s not the forwards responsibility to expect the opposing team to make dangerous plays.

If so, you haven't watched his portfolio of work. He has decent fundamentals, but he lets in a lot of crappy goals at inopportune times. Check out his advanced stats if you don't believe me. Best of luck to him, but I think you are delusional as a fan if you think he can carry the team if Swayman doesn't sign or signs late. Korpi's best role is as a backup. He is losing support amongst fans , I was around ahl in 1982 when Jim Craig was sent to the minors at Springfield and said he was too good to be there. Its the ego thing and fans booed him mercilessly when he was forced to play. I have nothing against Craig I am just trying to point out if Swayman now thinks he is all it and leveraging the negotiations trying hold Bruins hostage then I appreciate Neely if he says enough and trades him or sit him out the year.

    8×8 for Swayman is way too high. Considering he’s achieved almost nothing in the NHL. I’d give that kid no more than 6 million a year for four years. At this point I’d rather have the Bruins trade him for a right winger.

      The fact that you call him a kid tells me everything I need to know about how worthless your opinion is on this.

      @@turnerjazz7872 yea he's been around too long to be considered a kid at this point. But tbf they are right that he's rather inexperienced when it comes to playing 50-60 games per year. 8x8 is a risk if he regresses from a heavy workload (over the years) but if you're the b's you've gotta take the chance. You're in win-now mode, you've gotta take risks to succeed in the nhl

    It’s unfortunate because I do enjoy having him as a goaltender for the Bruins. I’m always comfortable when he’s between the pipes. Saying no to an 8×8, that’s just insane in my opinion. I really wish they wouldn’t sign a goaltender over 6 million a year. It would be nice to have another 3 million for Winger.

      You are aware that for the next few years the salary cap is going to be jumping, right? Are you aware of that? If you didn't know, now you do. Do you want to see what contracts are going to be getting signed in 4 years? They are going to make an $8 million deal look average. The teams know this. The players know this. The agents know this. The only people who don't know that are "fans" who are oblivious to the business of the NHL.

      @@carletonrutherford1799 the salary cap jumping doesn’t mean these players should be making more money, it means you should have more talent on your fourth line, being able to pay better players to play for your team
