The narrative that Ottawa's defence was bad last year and that's why the goalies sucked is not really supported by any of the data. Almost every single site that models expected goals had Boston and Ottawa as fairly comparable in terms of expected goals. Evolving hockey had Ottawa 18th to Boston's 14th in expected goals against at 5v5 (2.67 vs 2.59) and actually had Ottawa ahead in all situations (13th at 3.11 vs 14th at 3.16). Meanwhile hockey viz had Boston allowing 237.9 xG on the year compared to 231.4 xG on the year for Ottawa. The difference is that Boston's goalies stopped 30 goals above expected while Ottawa's goalies allowed almost 40 goals above expected. Now I think that Ottawa's defensive breakdowns were more catastrophic than Boston's, but Korpisalo was bad at saving the easy shots, not the hard ones (look at hockey viz's summary of goals vs expected by danger). Korpisalo will likely have a better season because it would be almost impossible to have a worse one, but it's not like he is going to be sheltered in Boston compared to Ottawa, it's likely going to be fairly similar.
