Are the employees setting aside things to buy? Probably. It is a perk to a job that has very few perks. Working retail in general is tough and I'd imagine somewhere like Goodwill may be even more of a challenge at times. If anyone has issue with the fact they have the opportunity to do this I'm sure you too could get a job there.
I worked for the goodwill for many years. In our area in pa employees can not shop in their own stores or the bins. We also weren’t allowed to pass things off to family or friends, if caught it’s instant termination. We had sixteen cameras in our store so employees could be watched. But I guess if there’s a will there’s a way.
All thrift store employees "cherry pick" no exceptions. I have seen this happen so many times. What they get goes on eBay and other outlets. You get caught, you should be fired immediately.
@@KenHolmes-mb3qpthen there should a rule that if you are here at goldwill bins to resell then you should be permanent banned as that's not the place for you
@@lorenzogiovannone5036 - The Goodwill bins is all about selling to resellers. That's their main customer. Most normal buyers aren't going to dig through bins of clothes to try to find clothes that are they need, in their size, that are their style. That's what the retail stores are for.
At my bins, part of the employee's job is that they go through the bins and find high priced items to pull. Same at regular stores. All employees, whether you are tagging the items, working the floor, running the register or if you're a manager , you have to pull items that are high end. Once a week a truck goes the the store to pick up those items to be sold through ecommereece Goodwill.
I don't understand why thrift stores are greedy all their items are freely given to them and they price items as though it's new. I use to donate a lot but this one time I donated 2 new Dell windows 11 laptops and 6 new dress men's shirts all with price tags still attached. I received it from a family whose father had passed away. I gave it to goodwill because the size was 3 size too big for me. When I handed over all my items to the goodwill worker outside of goodwill he didn't place items inside of the trailer as other workers did He took these items and placed them inside the back seat of his car. Was this something he was told to do I don't know but on That day I stopped donating as it looked to me the worker was taking these items for himself. He did give me a tax receipt for my taxes when I asked for it. I told another worker about this and she asked me are you sure ? 😂😂
I did see a Goodwill stocker at the regular store alert her friend that she was going to bring out something nice. The stocker then came out of the backroom, and HANDED the item to her friend/accomplice. As far as the bins, the best items I find never went to the store, a worker on the receiving dock decided the item was not worth selling so it went straight to the bins. 90% of my bin finds are this way. A lot of times they have a seasonal rule, if it is a winter item and it's the middle of summer, straight to the bin. Same in the winter with summer stuff. Winter stuff generally is worth more so I do best at the bins in the summer. My picking is routinely all about my knowledge versus the person putting stuff out/pricing/sending to the bins. And then you need a knowledge advantage over other pickers at the bin.
I really don't get why thrift stores are trying to get rid of resellers,we actually pay for our stuff and spend thousands of dollars and help keep them in business while they don't spend a dime and get their stuff for FREE!!!
I don't think most stores are trying to get rid of resellers. They are just trying to make as much money as they can. If that means picking out the best stuff and putting it online, they will do that.
Definitely. New bins, I was first on the site, found an empty digital camera box with the manuals, cables and charger very close by, no camera in sight. Very likely, a pocketed digital camera.
Every single time I go to the bins in Charlotte I watch staff members talk to people right before they wheel out the bins and the friend always always knows exactly what to look for. It’s obvious by the way they flip the clothes over that they are picking something specific.
Yes, they are cherry picking everything. They through in a few good gems for us peasants to get. Just because you found a few "ok" items to resell, does not mean they are not picking through the things. I even overheard a manager scoldingly asking an employee if he was finding her any "good stuff". We do not have bins in my area, and the price of everything has gone up so much, it is hard to pay that and expect to make a decent profit. They are trying to rid us resellers for all the profit. Plain and simple.
I didn't think they did but saw YTuber did a behind the scenes video were they pick in the back before it hits the floor. They can only be so good though its basically GW employee knowledge vs reseller knowledge.
Great finds! I will tell you wear gloves at the bins.. I have gotten cut before plus some of the shoes arent clean will put feces in the mix of clothes.. super gross.
I'm from central NY where we have Thrifty Shoppers. Profits from donated items go to the homeless. Bins are next to the entry of the store. People come in a drop and leave or shop. The employees grab the donation carts as soon as they can and wheel them to the back of the store where they go thru and pick out what they want. They get 25% off as employees. Crap hits the floor and fewer profits are being made for the homeless.
Someone I Used to Know works one block from a humongous Goodwill in Portland Oregon she said she caught employees pulling merchandise that had a green tag because the next day was going to be a green tag day it's a lot of work for the employees but they don't let the general public cash in on the discounts now is that shady or what
Here in St. Louis bins they skim sneakers - I know for sure. What riles me more than anything is that I am a book dealer online and MY Goodwill lists books and competes with me.
Of course they do. I know somebody who works there and she admits that they cherry pick she also says that management has them go through and put the valuable stuff in a different place. They are trained to pick out things that are valuable. Those things are not sold in the store either.
I also go to the Columbus bins and I've noticed I don't see a lot of the "vintage guys" that used to be there almost every day so that made me think they were cherry picking vintage stuff in the back and it's not worth it for them to spend hours and find nothing (or they're picking it FOR them and they don't have to dig like the rest of us.) I sell mostly women's clothing so it doesn't really affect me as I've been having great hauls lately but I definitely can tell it's a different vibe.
Shoes at our bins are never paired up! I was so disappointed this week, as I found a beautiful boot for myself & couldn't find the mate anywhere! Also a solo Ugg!
I watched some workers pick a couple of carhartt items out of someone's CART at the bins. I also had a carhartt hat disappear out of my cart, but I didn't see who took it.
Wish our bins was like yours. Just went down got in 7am 2 people filled 2 carts with every decent shoe within 10 minutes no idea if they were going to buy them or not. Then every time changed over people stood in line and rushed the table. Then they look through and toss it in the back/corner. Was so annoying as I'm looking through stuff. I'm not even in very busy big state. Did stumble onto a Vuori piece but that was more luck than skill hoping to get $70 for it.
My goodwill is full of employee thieves. IV e seen them loading stuff into their trunks and i see a lot of them putting clothes up but also checking resell values. I was working at one and saw this first hand. What gets me they would call cops on thieves and throw a fit when a thief would steal but were okay when they did it or their family and friends did it. I quit I couldn't deal with at bullsheez.
Another grip I have is shoppers putting things back, say shoes in the clothing bin, clothing in the toy bins.. really .. put them where you found them.

You are making a video teaching the workers in the back every single item you are finding, what to look for, and what the sold listings show. Think about it.
In Australia, thrift store workers are volunteers. If it’s the same in your country, I hope they are cherry picking. More power to them. I can only imagine the things they have to deal with that comes into the store, insects, vermin, mould, rubbish. Let them have what they want. Plenty to go around.
Goodwill has an auction website and they are suppose to research anything that comes in and looks valuable and if they find any such items, they are not suppose to put it out on the floor. Since they are a for profit organization now, you just have to hope they miss a few things....and they do miss stuff. I think you would do better at yardsales, estate sales and non profit organizations.
I think one problem especially with Goodwill (because they're so greedy) is the resellers. Goodwill raises prices because they don't like resellers getting one over on them and making money on their donated stuff. One of my favorite channels featuring Goodwill thrift hauls is a woman shopping just for her own personel use. Thats why I shop Goodwill. The prices have gotten so crazy high then they were just a few years ago so I have become very particular in what I buy.
Of course we know Goodwill cherry picks to put on their websites. Employees are able to shop also, even on breaks I find. And they box sell a lot of stuff in those big boxes.
how are the rumors false when they go out of their way look thru the glass window in the doors and you can see it . look at when they had to fire a employee because he was pulling 90 percent of the bins to fill his 18 flea market booths ...do your research and not just fluff good will ....Good will employees a t the brice road location will tell you outright that they are told to fill so many boxes per week per employee for good will finds and shop good will as well
I am a reseller and I find it a bit odd that people get upset over GW cherry picking. They own the merchandise and any company can do what they want with the merch they own. I get that it is frustrating since more good stuff could be found just a few years ago and GW is jacking up prices which I also hate. But its THEIR stuff and they can sell as they wish. Same as any other store. Now, they might find that customers adjust and stop shopping there and then they need to lower prices or let more good stuff onto the floor and not send to corporate for web sales all the best stuff. They have to weigh and balance how much profitable the retail stores are to be vs just donation/collection and sorting nodes.
Biggest issue I have with goodwill selling online is not only do they get free stuff but they qualify as charity so they probably don't pay the same fees we do which makes it hard to be competitive with them since it's an uneven playing field.
I like your channel. I am wondering what will calling out Goodwill solve? They do have the right to go through donated items and sell them online. Corporate greed ? Absolutely. But calling them out will change nothing. People will still go there to shop. I'm just curious about what you believe you will accomplish. Also, those workers are more than likely doing as instructed. #SheisMonaLisa314
Talk about your clickbait... How did you determine whether cherry picking by Goodwill employees was or (as you supposedly determined) going on at that facility? Sorry to say, this was a waste of my time.
This whole video showed you shopping- nothing about the goodwill Cherry picking- you didn’t go in the back and see what was there. You just made an opinion. Change the title.
Ok i wrked at goodwill an yes our job is too cherry pick the best items to put on sale an yes the workers even set a side the things they want just as any retail associate anywhere does soo to me you are actually causeing ppl not to donate im mean i been homeless an yes even being homless i dnt want your broken or staind materials so shame on you for goin after these ppl when your tyme an effort can be goin after real crooks
I spoke to a manager at a Goodwill and she told me she instructs every employee to Google lens everything and either price it accordingly or lay out for management to do as they wish..i don't think thats necessarily against the rules and if they bust their ass working full time at a goodwill ( not exactly a luxurious job) let em have first choice. They deserve it. I have no problem wth it.

We dont see designer brands here. Iv been going to the bins for over a year and never found padagonia, lulu or anything other than the damn mall brands.

Since they are a for profit organization now, you just have to hope they miss a few things....and they do miss stuff. I think you would do better at yardsales, estate sales and non profit organizations.
Ours is in Maine! We see them in the back
I know my bins take anything over $50 and put them online
Does Pelaton let you sell on Ebay?
Where is this location?
I think one problem especially with Goodwill (because they're so greedy) is the resellers. Goodwill raises prices because they don't like resellers getting one over on them and making money on their donated stuff. One of my favorite channels featuring Goodwill thrift hauls is a woman shopping just for her own personel use. Thats why I shop Goodwill. The prices have gotten so crazy high then they were just a few years ago so I have become very particular in what I buy.
Dawn dish soap gets even set in stains out like a champ
How do you look up model numbers and rn numbers???
you google the, if company keep them up, they will pop up, but not always
That Richie Rich Denim Jacket is worth way more than $40. Very nice.
Of course we know Goodwill cherry picks to put on their websites. Employees are able to shop also, even on breaks I find. And they box sell a lot of stuff in those big boxes.
Another great day at the Bins!
Resellers need to stop going to the GW OUTLETS and find a piece that will make good money but leave it bc it is heavy. That is so ridiculous.
The gray tee at 2:47 is a dr who (DW) shirt. Can be a decent flip
The employees can not go to shop where there work ?!! But the manager can steal items. 😅😅😅😮😮😮.....
Wow so empty. Mine is the thunderdome
definitely cherry picking there, however with the mgmt change, that could be stopping finally. Notice the “windows” are no longer covered ;)
Cherry pick away. They make how much an hour? Probably minimal benefits. If you don’t think that’s fair go work/volunteer.
They cherry pick the cool t-shirts sweatshirts etc. That’s where the money is. They don’t care about $40-50 owns
The bins in Arkansas is taking the good stuff and putting it online.
I just sold and ever jacket for $40!
how are the rumors false when they go out of their way look thru the glass window in the doors and you can see it . look at when they had to fire a employee because he was pulling 90 percent of the bins to fill his 18 flea market booths ...do your research and not just fluff good will ....Good will employees a t the brice road location will tell you outright that they are told to fill so many boxes per week per employee for good will finds and shop good will as well
Oh well it’s a doggie dog world 😮
Dope video keep it up! The bins can be challenging
So many karens in the comments
I'd price the jacket for 195 best offer ❤
The brand Ever use to be sold at Barneys New York
I sell Kuhl brand with marks. There is a good following!
Cool Richy Rich!
Yall r basically saying poor ppl only deserve nasty shit yall wrong for this
Fun day 😊
Weird title ...I mean it's already been picked twice lol. Ummmm
Talk about your clickbait... How did you determine whether cherry picking by Goodwill employees was or (as you supposedly determined) going on at that facility? Sorry to say, this was a waste of my time.
I talk to every single employee at that facility. Want me to introduce you to them all the next time I'm there?
This whole video showed you shopping- nothing about the goodwill Cherry picking- you didn’t go in the back and see what was there. You just made an opinion. Change the title.
Ok i wrked at goodwill an yes our job is too cherry pick the best items to put on sale an yes the workers even set a side the things they want just as any retail associate anywhere does soo to me you are actually causeing ppl not to donate im mean i been homeless an yes even being homless i dnt want your broken or staind materials so shame on you for goin after these ppl when your tyme an effort can be goin after real crooks
Well if you worked there honesty it would be hard not to,
I spoke to a manager at a Goodwill and she told me she instructs every employee to Google lens everything and either price it accordingly or lay out for management to do as they wish..i don't think thats necessarily against the rules and if they bust their ass working full time at a goodwill ( not exactly a luxurious job) let em have first choice. They deserve it. I have no problem wth it.
You claimed you were going to check if the staff was cherry picking but you did nothing about it in this video? I know for a fact that here is the looser city of Loss Wages they do. We dont see designer brands here. Iv been going to the bins for over a year and never found padagonia, lulu or anything other than the damn mall brands.
The point of the video was 'who cares'. Get good at what you do and you'll always be two steps ahead of any alleged cherry picking in the back.
begin at 110,,,
Clickbait title. You literally just went flipping then ended with "welp guess, they aren't cherry picking because I found stuff" With your intro, it sounded like you were going to actually look into what was going on. Got you 100k views though so good job I guess.
