    Thank you so much, Dave, for this course! I am on a limited income...going into retirement...and am most grateful to have found this through the mental illness society in my city. I appreciate your kindness & intend to complete your course, no matter how imperfectly:) I know it took a tremendous amount of work. Bless you!

      So interesting. I would be so curious to know more about the effects this had as well as your experience while practicing with a cigarette. It's more emotionally packed than a raisin, that's for sure. I wonder if your experience was more emotionally packed as well.

    Oh my Lord what a profound meditation. It brought me to tears. Big tears. I feel so different in my skin, on this earth. I feel differently, think differently about every living thing. I feel an overwhelming sense of love, compassion and peace. I want to go out and hug my chooks and sit with my plants. We are connected, interdependent, living, breathing, growing together.
    I have been meditating for a year now. This one just changed my life.

    Here's a couple of suggestions to maximize your experience with this. Have a magnifying glass handy. You'll be able to find the stem more easily if there is one and you'll see even greater detail. Try doing this near a window. Pause the video and go up to the window, holding up the raisin up to that natural light as you look at it. It will glow from the inside! Such a beautiful color! In all-- wow. I've never eaten a raisin- or anything else for that matter- with such an exquisite sense of awareness. Not just of the raisin itself, but the very source and the heart of the matter of it, such as where it came from, how it came to be, who handled it, what elements of nature and the planet touched it. Amazing. I am slowly forming a new appreciation of raisins, and, eventually, hopefully, of all things. Many things are worthy of our attention. Many things are beautiful, just as they are. Even a raisin! How much more ourselves...

      Yes, I loved the words "umbilical cord", it strengthened the connection and you loved it like a baby and then you were eating its essence....It is wonderful to have someone help you develop this awareness. I am so grateful. Thank you.

    this felt so damn silly watching this and then almost as silly doing it (I'm sure you've heard this before!) But I did it, and now I'm already more aware of myself and my motivations and who I am. That's 10 minutes. I wonder what 10 hours or 10 years can do!

    Thanks Dave. I will be doing this one repeatedly as I have a lot to learn about that state of non-judgmental observing mindfulness. With a background in environmental health I found it hard to quiet the mental 'programming' right/wrong - good/bad sciences of the exposures of workers in vineyards, sustainable water management , impact of fertilizer/pesticide usage vs organic, etc. Very helpful, thank you.

    Thank you for this meditation, Dave! I've done a raisin meditation previously and thought it was super irritating and stupid. So I was annoyed to find this was the first exercise in the MBSR course.😂 But it was great! Thinking about all the aspects of the raisins made me laugh, and I've never felt the texture of a raisin in my mouth so clearly before. Needless to say, I ate the whole package of raisins right afterwards, without paying any attention to the individual raisins. 😂😂

    there is yet an other dimension to it;
    though the genetic information in a raisin afaik isnt present anymore,
    the raisin isnt only the sum of its ingredients but is also a result of its ancestors, evolution and not to forget; an unbroken strain of continued life for billions of years. and as mentioned, atoms that were forged in a star. the realm of reality is a strange kingdom.

      Good substitutes are another small piece of fruit, like a blueberry, cranberry, or small strawberry. Another possibility is a piece of chocolate. Ideally it would be something that won't fall apart in your hands when you examine it and/or when you roll it around in your mouth.
