  • CRESTED BUTTE, CO - Downhill mountain biking at Evolution Bike Park. Mountain Biking Captain Jack.
    Captain Jack starts off pretty mellow, some nice small doubles and neat wood bridge, but it doesn’t take very long until that changes. After the casual ride on the upper end of the trail, things get steep, violent, and wild. Even though I don’t take the most difficult lines in this one, that doesn’t mean you’re missing out on much. This is still a difficult techy double black diamond trail!
    The start of the trail is access just west of the lift and is briefly joined with Upper Westside. This portion is quite “pedally”. Let not your heart be troubled, Captian Jack shortly breaks from Upper Westside and the rest is a downhill mtb slug fest!

    That is a Double Black Diamond? Sheeeeiiit!
    That's pretty much what my local trails are like. Steep and Deep! And, if I'm honest, not fun at all. I want the flowy fun stuff you have in the US.

    Amazing riding and you committed to all your lines and crushed it. I rode that trail in July and got worked in the steeps but I'll be back to conquer the Captain. Thanks for sharing

      I took a tag line from you in the one "Crack open a cold one" I meant to put that in a card lol! Yeah this trail was messing around, its way crazier in person than on camera, I just watch the clips and shake my head! Something for HHMTB! Thanks Shawn!

    Was there for outerbike! So fun! I was riding Avery and luge demo’ing bikes! Awesome! I liked the pivot firebird 29’er and the yeti 5.5 but who doesn’t!

    That poor gimbal really worked hard on this one. I absolutely loved that trail and the whole bike park in general there, one of the most varied places i've been, really enjoyed how the feel of the trails on the east and west of the mountain are so different from the frontside. I chickened out on doing psycho rocks though!

      @OutdoorGold  5 років тому

      Thanks Stefano! dude Psycho rocks is the real deal! I had a nice hike with my bike during a pre ride so I'm with you! I probably need to coerce Taggalong MTB to guide me on that and show me the way!

      CB is THE Colorado mountain bike destination Orbie! Like Cal, you could spend a year over in the area and still have key trails to ride!

    I've thought about going chin mount for the camera just to avoid the bashing but I crash too much and need that chin bar more! Haha! Nice edit Brotha!

    • @OutdoorGold
      @OutdoorGold  5 років тому +1

      I've seen that too, and honestly thats probably the best strategy for riding that steep tech! It also gets rid of the gimbal, you just have to have that helmet super snug to eliminate the shaking!

    Those flow trails at the end need some tender loving care! Lol Kinda gives me an idea... it would be really rad if parks could hire some trail maintenance folks to keep up the trails regularly. Maybe even young adults and high schoolers to water and smooth the berms. I'm sure their summer budgets are tight, but that would be killer. Once on a regular maintenance schedule, it would likely be fairly easy to maintain immaculate trail conditions. It's letting it build up into a lot of work where it may be overwhelming. Just my thoughts! I could be wrong lol

    • @OutdoorGold
      @OutdoorGold  5 років тому +1

      I think some parks actually groom their trails on a daily basis. Not sure which ones though?

    The GoPro affect is staggering on this one. It looks so easy compared to what it really is.

      You nailed it Kris! Its hard to position the camera to show the trail its so steep and really really chunky! "A" games required!
