That's exactly what I always said. Nobody realised it but scaloni made a perfect transition to the youth players like enzo alvarez macallister and yet keeping messi in the centre and giving him all freedom which didn't even disturb the transition. This is the thing barca couldn't do when messi was rumoured to come back. So many fans said messi coming will disturb the transition but it won't if you knew how to do it. AND YET Argentina doesn't suffer when messi ain't available. There are always players who can give them the win. Scaloni is a very underhyped and underrated coach imo unlike the likes of pochettino or luis enrique who are overrated af.

  • @mrblisteringbarnacles

It's more about their chemistry and passion that makes them stand out among other countries. Spain in 2010 and Brazil in 2002 are probably the only countries that kind of rival them in the chemistry department. Their style is defined by their chemistry mostly. It's an unorthodox 4-3-3 or an unorthodox 4-4-2 or a 3-5-2 with one basic principle which is to cater to Messi's style of play whether it means giving the ball to him in those danger zones or compensating for his defensive work rate or making runs behind him.
Another reason why I say that this team is based on their mutual chemistry is because every player has that clarity over their role. Lo Celso was injured, Parades and Lautaro were out of form, in came Enzo, Alexis and Alvarez with very limited international experience and they turned the fortunes of that team into the WC. Even yesterday Argentina played without a DM, Alexis was playing as the last man holding the midfield even if that was not his preferred position but he grasped the role well and had a good game.
Huge credit to Scaloni for his tactics and man management. Imagine how he would have felt when Diego Maradona said he was not an ideal coach for Argentina, he's probably the most successful coach and probably the only national team coach who got the best out of Messi ( shoutout to Sabella though )

I agree with almost everything but the chemistry of Brazil 2002, not that it wasn't great but just that the chemistry of Spain and Argentina was a bit better imo. What Brazil 2002 had was organized Chaos because they were so good individually they didn't really need as much chemistry as Spain and Argentina. He took an incoherent team and made them UNSTOPPABLE by analysing the opponent, completely limiting their chances and creating opportunities for Leo Messi to do what Leo Messi does best (win games and titles) and it's paying off similarly to how it payed off in prime Barca 2009-2011.
In reality Holland and France were SOOO fortune to have a chance in their games vs Argentina. If Argentina can get taller faster defenders to stop opposing headers and limit their fouls around and in the box they will be UNBEATABLE.

Being a fan of Argentina since being born in the auspicious year of 1986, I never felt this amount of confidence about an Argentina team. Most importantly, they play beautiful football. Football is entertainment. Brazil and some European teams have forgotten it, Argentina have not. La Nuestra is still going strong.
But this team still has one Achilles heel. Exposed by Netherlands and France, even the Saudis. They sort of stop playing later on in the game if they are leading. Scaloni makes unnecessarily defensive substitutions unbalancing the chemistry. If the opposition attacks ruthlessly and relentlessly, the defense falls apart in complete chaos.
Instead, the matches against Italy and Croatia should be how it's done. Stay on the front foot. Keep the pressure piling. Counterattack.
Another potential pitfall yet to be seen is how this team reacts to going behind. In this long dominating streak, rarely has Argentina failed to score first. I would like to see for once how they react when they are chasing the game.

The thing with this team is that argentina finally has a good talented midfield. The best midfield post-pekerman. Back then, you had 3 mids in cambiasso, masche, maxi and riquelme as a 10. Since then it was masche and biglia and sometimes banega or gago. Enzo and maccallister are very talented and young, de paul is a good complement because he's a workhorse. They play well with messi and the team is not disjointed like before. Messi is a big part of this team, but the majority will be in their prime years next copa america and heading into the next world cup.

Have seen so much heartbreaks after heartbreaks lost hope with the quality of squad unknown before copa America 2021 but this team has punched above their weight with no big names in back and middle. Thanks lionel scaloni for these good days! With the talented squad brasil always had and have never thought we would have seen these days pundit saying "Argentina is everything what brasil is not right now". This team can win copa America again. This team has the knack of keeping clean sheets continuously.
