All of a sudden, the game was tied, and then game went to penalties. Now it seems, Qater hosted and orchestrated the greatest final were both Qater owned PSG Stars at center stage in the most epic final. If the World Cup had not been held there, clearly there would been a different outcome. Corruption at its finest.

Argentina is best penalty team, so the goal is to just get them to at least penalties. Even with referee gifting them leads, Argentina still struggle to keep it. That is not sign of true champion.

Messi's goal was about 22 yards out, sliding along the ground past a defender and a diving outstretched goalkeeper at the perfect bottom right corner of the goal against the run of play in a "must win" game with the score tied at 0-0. Just some, like shady ref calls. That's enough to give you an advantage. You still obviously have to execute on the field. There's been plenty of rigged games throughout history. Seria A has been rigged for years and years. By most of leading clubs (having refs and other officials on their paying list) competing with each other. That doesn't necessarily mean Juventus or Milan won it every year. They still had to perform!
But were they given an edge to win it by doing so? Certainly. And that's what Van Gal is implying to.

Also watched commentaries from referees from various countries and most agree there's no chance those were actual penalties by instructions and regulations they were given by referee committee. And they don't understand why VAR didn't overturn those decisions.
VAR and usage of it was extremely shady and contriversial, not just at WC, but various top leagues around the world including Premiership! So I wouldn't use VAR argument seriously.
It exists so therfore everything is clean.
It's the way referee interprets the context in which shady circumstances happened is what's crucial to making a final decision.

My opinion. Argentina was a close knit team. Messi’s time at PSG allowed him to perfect his assisting and field reading abilities for the World Cup. Teams just don't get that many penalties in the world cup it just doesn't happen. Its a statistical anomaly.
