I know this video is almost 9 years old but the bonus repair tip at 4 minutes solved my problem on my otherwise dependable 17 y.o. machine. Since 2005, I've replaced the door switch 3 times, twice within the last 18 months. Today, the machine flipped me the bird again with the F-11 F/DL code combo. I'm thinking the switch is still almost new. Wtf? Hoping it was just a faulty connection somewhere, I surfed eventually to this video. And bingo! Confidence has been restored! It was the 4 pink wires into the centrqal control unit as shown at 4:29. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I want to say thank you also. I had seen similar videos to this on youtube and already bought the replacement door latch part and tried to install it. I was still getting the error code and I was upset and tried to give up. Then I called my home warranty provider and found out my washer wasn't covered, so I decided to give it one more try and I found this video. What made it work in my case was the part at the end where it showed taking the top of the washer off and checking the 3 sets of cords that he showed. I unplugged and plugged them back in and it worked afterwards. I'm so pleased I didn't need to call a repairman AFTER replacing the part. Thanks again.
Wow .. this 11 year OLD video just save me SO MUCH money !! I wish i had watched it before buying the door lock assembly, however after my son installed it was still giving the error code .. after watching to end its was the wires on the control board 💪🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽!!! Thanks so much for this video YOU ARE A TRUE Blessing to us all !!
This was great! All we did was open the top and reseat the connectors and our machine is now working perfectly. It is a Kenmore HE3t. We had already picked out, but thankfully not purchased a new machine. We had decided repair service in our area was not worth the money or hassle for an 11 year old machine. Maybe it has a few more years left in it thanks to your video!
Thank you so much for this video. Replaced the door lock in about 5 minutes no problem. Putting the boot ring back on took longer lol, unplugged the wire harnesses and plugged them back in, ran diagnostics and door locked...no other issues. Between you and Amazon's cost for the part vs Whirlpool direct saved me a few hundred! 😃🙌🏼
You just saved me hard earned money. Much appreciated. I would recommend starting with removing the top and checking this wire connections first before ordering a new part. That was my problem. Probably rattled loose under a heavy load of clothes.
Agreed! I changed the locking mechanism and still didn’t work and locked the door on me. So I followed instructions on unplugged and plugging in wires and all good now Thank you for the video!
This is *exactly* the information I needed for *my* washing machine. A similar video for a similar washing machine by the same manufacturer would have had me taking several panels off my machine. This gasket trick is awesome. Thanks!
First, Thanks for the video, much good information. I was seeing the F11 error code, and when I ran diagnostics, it further reported F DL, the dreaded Door Lock problem. Attempting to use Cancel/Drain failed when the door would not unlock, hmmm. Instead of following instructions to manually open the unit to unlock the door, I removed power for more than one minute (using circuit breaker because the outlet was not easily accessible. This reset the washer and successfully completed Cancel/Drain, both locking and unlocking the door successfully. Now completing a wash cycle, wish me good fortune.
Thanks a million. No need for a new Door Latch, at least not yet. So my Kenmore Elite HE3 washer agitated really hard after the wash cycle. Cancel the process but door was locked. After taking the top lid off and disconnect all door socket, I noticed @ the door latch the socked was disconnected, reconnected and run diagnostic test. Finish cycle at rinse and spin. Service call $0, Parts $0
This is a great video. My issue ended up just being the loose 4 pink wires into the central control unit (toward the end of the video at about the 4:00 mark) . I'm sure this saved me big money!
Yes, you can check the door lock solenoids, the door lock main switches, and the door switch all from the CCU connectors pointed out in the video. See the Whirlpool Duet Job Aid L-68 (Part No. 8178076), pages 5-3 and 5-4 for details on how and what to check.
Thank you so much for your video. We replaced the door locking mechanism (as we have before) but NADA. As you suggested towards the end of your video, we tried re-seating the three power plugs on the CCU. And BINGO, we are washing clothes again. MUCH appreciated.
Perfect tutorial! I removed and cleaned my wiring harness at the CCU, reattached, and the unit is now working flawlessly! Saved me a few bucks! Thank you!!!
It's always a difficult line to draw: how much do you show without the video becoming tedious to watch. In the interest of keeping the video short and moving along, I didn't want to belabor it with simple details that could be handled by simply mentioning them during the narrative. I appreciate your feedback in helping to shape future videos.
Thanks for a great video! I watched another one previous to yours that was pretty good and ordered the door switch assembly as a result. However, after installation it did not work and kept throwing the dl error code. Your video stressed running the diagnostic program which reset the unit so that it recognized the new door switch.PEOPLE - RUN THE DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM! Watch the video, real easy to do.Thanks again!
Thank you Sensei. Turned out in my case the problem was with the part on the door that goes into the latch when you close the door. When I tightened the two screws, the error went away. Good as new!
While searching for the door lock assembly model you indicated I noticed a great deal of price differences (Amazon) ranging from $29 - $79. My question is this; why the big price variations? Am I missing something? Appreciate any help you can send my way, Sensei
Thanks...great video and got it work (so far so good) by pulled the connections and reattaching at the CCU. Also replaced the DL mechanism for good measure.
If one takes off the top (there are only 3 screws at the back top), the problem may be solved by (first unplugging the washing machine) taking out and re-inserting about a dozen contacts on the circuit board. A technician suggested this (after suggesting I buy a new one and charging $100 for the visit), stating that often the problem is that over the years moisture gets into the contacts and reduces their connectivity. Then the door lock mechanism error code show up because the circuit board is not allowing the mechanism to work. I tried this and our machine has been working for 2 weeks now. Good luck!
Thank you! I replaced the latch and even washed several loads, but then the same error code returned f/dl. Any suggestions? I have the Kenmore Elite He4t
After looking at the door latch assembly further, I found the male plastic fitting (found on the door) that inserts in the latch assembly (on the washer) loose. It had about 3/8" of play to the left and right. I tightened up the screws, placing the male plastic fitting in the middle of range of play. NO fix or part needed
I have this error code Fdl, but then this happens, my door won't unlock, which seems to be just the opposite of your problem of the door NOT locking. What do you think?
Thank you Samurai Repairman...but I don't think I can do all by myself.... Would you please tell me how much it would cost if I ask for the repaire to the mechanic??
Sir, do you think you could help me out with mine, please? The problem with my machine is that it displays an FH code, and I don't know how to fix it. By researching I found out that it has to do with maybe the hoses or just not enough water flowing into the machine. Do you think you could help me out, please??!
Question, if anyone can answer. My duet ht displays F/DL code but locks when i run the diagnostic. It clicks and locks at first but then buzzes 6 times then throws the code. What could be the problem?
I have just replaced my Door lock for $175 today. I have a DUET Whirlpool washer. I put a load of clothes in the wash. It runs ~5-10 mins then I get d/fl again and the lock is unresponsive. (lots of tiny clicks) I managed to unlock (loud thump) open the washer door after 15 minutes of monkeying around with it, but now the d/fl keeps showing anytime I try to start the washer again. What should I do? ??
+The Mr. Wafflefox! RMV, but the last couple of weeks, we've been having trouble with our 10+yr old Whirlpool Duet washer not locking, intermittently (so wash cycle wouldn't start). I had been just pulling those connectors off at the end of this video, and pushing them back onto the CCU board a few times and that would usually get the thing going again. But, the washer was failing more frequently lately. So, last weekend, I removed that CCU enclosure, pulled the circuit board out of it and added a small bit of solder to all the connection points (top and bottom of board). It has to be very little bit of solder, so your connectors will still go on. I'm a week in, and it seems to have resolved the issue. If you're solder savvy, you can try that to avoid spending any more money. If your appliance is as old as mine, you may feel the same way I do about it: I don't want to spend $240 on a new CCU, to replace the rest of the machine's innards in another 6 months, or have to buy a new washer in addition to that.
replaced the doorlock piece, ran the diagnostics again, nothing came up, and we washed for 2 days, all was fine, then 2 days later my wife was preparing more laundry, and the error code f/dl came up again. However this time the door was locked, has no water in it, and Ii cannot get it to unlock, ,,,,HELP,,,,,
The problem with ours is that shock went and one broke the door wont lock now. So we cant do anything with it .. I replace the shocks but still cant close the door..
I am so frustrated. I did all this. Replaced the door latching mechanism. My washer worked for 5 loads a week ago after the fix. And now it's back to the same problem. I'm ready to throw my washer off a cliff 😡
I use the Appliance Blue Book flat rate pricing guide to quote repair fees. This allows me to give the complete repair cost to my customer right up front and they can decide whether or not to do the repair. I also guarantee the repair for one year and can usually get out same day/next day. Google "ApplianceGuru New London, NH" to read more about how I do service calls. Look for these features in whoever you call.
My machine is giving me an e53 error, I have replaced the door lock and am trying to replace the door switch, it says there is a communication error, and honeatly, I just want some clean towels lol

Thanks for posting the video. The 3 plugs disconnection solved the issue which was a hassle in a stacked setup!

Thanks! You’re a lifesaver. Replaced the door lock switch. Still didn’t work. Was getting frustrated.
Your bonus section. Work! Thanks again 👍
Thanks for saving me hundreds in repair!!!!!
i just detached and reattached the 4 pink connector wires(with the black) and mine worked fine again
thank you!!
The end of this video should've been the beginning of this video, since checking the connections is a lot faster than ordering a door latch .. thanks!

Having issues with mine too. Have the same washer as this video. I replaced the door lock and the door striker however still getting f/dl issue.
Enjoyed the video and also like the new look of your site.Looking forward to more great training videos!
Thanks...great video and got it work (so far so good) by pulled the connections and reattaching at the CCU. Also replaced the DL mechanism for good measure.
Pulled the 3 plugs like suggested, and presto, problem solved. Thanks!
Thanks a lot it was just a loose wire from the top. Good thing I saved time and money.
Thank you very much, your video saved me time and money. truly appreciate it.

will try that, and see what happen, thanks
As usual it was a great video. The Master at work!
Thanks for the kata, Samurai; particularly the CCU double-check. Is there a double-check kata for checking the door lock assembly?
Thank you! I replaced the latch and even washed several loads, but then the same error code returned f/dl. Any suggestions? I have the Kenmore Elite He4t
Replaced door lock assembly but I still get the F dl code. Help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks for the info. Mine was the stupid connection wiring like the F11 code.
Mine is a duet but must be older as I don't have the buttons. I have a dial and no pre soak.
Not my model but the initial intro to find the diag book was helpful
I have this error code Fdl, but then this happens, my door won't unlock, which seems to be just the opposite of your problem of the door NOT locking. What do you think?
Does it have to be in diagnostic mode to fix?
Thank you for you good advise!
Thank you Samurai Repairman...but I don't think I can do all by myself.... Would you please tell me how much it would cost if I ask for the repaire to the mechanic??
Very bottom edge of that panel below the door. Look, way down, you'll see three of them: two on either side and one in the center.
Thank you very much for your immediate response!!!
How do I know if I need to replace the door hinge or the door lock assembly. The door sags.
Will this work for the HE3T?
Nice video!! I did replace door lock checked hardness and still throws me same code.
please help!!!!
Thanks!

I need to unlatch the door with the e-latch that is behind the front panel. Then I can do the rest of this repair. Where are the three screws?
I am so frustrated. I did all this. Replaced the door latching mechanism. My washer worked for 5 loads a week ago after the fix. And now it's back to the same problem. I'm ready to throw my washer off a cliff 😡

Mine locks but does not proceed with the cycle, it just stops right after locking the door.

It's a fridigare affinity front loader
You forgot to show us where the three screws to the bottom front panel are.
In my case, it was the wires into the control board that caused the errror. Thanks!!
Thanks for saving me hundreds in repair!!!!!
