    Great video mate! Good to hear from someone with experience in the industry. Just finished my Telecommunications Tech training and now starting a networking cert 4. Definitely would love to move into the network security eventually. Do you recommend Cisco certs/others?

    Such a champion you are. Thank you for sharing your experience and insight on Cyber Security. I am planning for a career change and will be enrolling in TAFE Cert IV one year Cyber Security course. I am from a non-IT educational and work background. Hence, starting with a Cert IV to begin with. Upon completing the course, will I be eligible for starting any entry-level role? Who would be my prospective employers? What strategy would you recommend to follow for landing on a job? Your guidance would be highly appreciated.

    Hey man!
    Honestly your videos are the most informative resources I’ve found online regarding Australian cyber security scene.
    Such great help!
    I’ve gone through all your videos and you have pretty much answered my questions but because I’m in a different position, I would rather ask myself!
    I currently graduated at CoderAcademy gaining a Diploma in IT.
    I am also from Brisbane, Southbank specifically 😊
    We were learning JavaScript, Ruby on Rails & The JS Mern stack.
    I didn’t really enjoy being a web dev. So I started to learn Python & Certified hacking through Udemy.
    What are your thoughts on python? I heard it’s a great language from cybersec. I was also considering studying for my new CCNA, but they only last 3 years?
    I would like to gain CREST, Sec+, Network+.
    What should I do next? I am currently living out of home and I have all the time to study, I don’t want to get into a web development job.
    I’d much rather wait it out, study what I can and get as much certs and get into Cybersec.
    Any thoughts/Opinions?
    I would love to start an internship at a cybersec company.
    Thanks man!

    • @dccybersec
      @dccybersec  4 роки тому +1

      Hey man!
      I was in southbank last night :P
      Firstly, I’d start with the sec+ and net+. Take those and your current degree to managed service providers around Brissy and see what work you can get. My guess is there are a few jobs out there that would employ you. There are checkpoint and PaloAlto venders in Brisbane, as well as places like technology one, MOQ digital, resolution technology, dexus, Brennan IT, data#3, dimension data (the list goes on) who are always looking for people wanting to move to security.
      That’s what I’d do. Doing those 2 certs shouldn’t take too long either. Probably around 6 months (give it take).
      Best of luck man!

      DC CyberSec that was a swift reply!
      I am currently interning at River City Labs, but I’m working on AEM, a Content Management System 👎
      It’s no fun, But the experience will be there on my resume so I gotta go through with it!
      I spike like to do my sec+ & net+!
      I just paid for another course on udemy for networking. What are some good resources to study for sec+ & net+?
      Also I have a friend who works for The Alcorn group in Brisbane, he is working as a Security Consultant.
      His advise was to get my CREST & SEC+
      I’ve done some research and the CEH is quite good but his opinion is that it’s not popular in Australia?
      What are your thoughts on that?
      I will definitely look through those companies that you mentioned.
      After I completed my diploma which was about 1 months ago, and now I’m interning.. I’ve came to realise I don’t want to develop but rather secure or penetrate 😂
      Thanks again!

      @7seven457 2 роки тому +1

      @SR J Well, you need a computer science degree; that's a must. Almost all of them require something equivalent to that, but computer science could get you a decent spot. More qualifications are better because you're competing against other people who most like have the same degree. Pretty much everyone has a cs degree, so it's nothing special. Personally cert, diploma, degree. It helps you stand out. Diversity in the industry Like you've data science and cybersecurity. Shoes you can manage data, etc., I'm sure you understand what I'm trying to say. If you're looking to enter the industry, get work experience. You won't get paid good, but companies also want some understanding, plus you can never go wrong on first impressions and resume.
      I got into this stuff because I got into botnets and c2 networking and sold botnets, little things like this can help you. Projects are always good.
      I've been and seen heaps of applications so trust me. "Cs "is super hard to get into if your only in it for the money

    • @JamieGillespieOnline
      @JamieGillespieOnline 4 роки тому

      @@deinvasion5482 programming languages in information security largely revolve around different areas of security. C++ is a low(er) level language that is used in reverse engineering, malware analysis, and of course for any tools/programs that need that low level system access to resources. From a very simplistic point of view, if you need C++ for work you'd be primarily living in C++ (i.e. software engineer, malware/reverse engineer).
      Python is a higher level language, easier to learn and use, used extensively in security tools and automation. Python ticks the box for many tech companies (Google, Facebook, Amazon) for more general security roles as well as for some software engineers.
      It's a hard decision to make at your point in your career, as you probably haven't been exposed to a variety of security roles. My personal preference would lean towards Python, while ensuring you learn good programming practices (which I'd hope a Uni would teach you) but I also don't come from a hard core programming and reverse engineering background.
