Hello Derek and Mahe, I really appreciate the informative videos you guys push about Hawaii, you guys are straight to the point and give us info that is really valuable to people looking to move to Hawaii. Keep up the fantastic job and will be watching more videos :) ❤
Great job! For all the potential college students and parents a nice UNIVERSITY segment going from ala moana to kapahulu(ono haw food), up to kaimuki, over to punahou and in to manoa would be PERFECT. Centering on UH Manoa and Chaminade University it would be informative and good buisness for anyone looking to invest or considering attending college here. I first lived across punahou HS then moved to Moilili, just behind pucks ally, as a student from Guam 40 years ago. I am now interested in investing in a place for my child who will be attending college soon. We are talking Rich Miano's mom's mama mia's pizza, pool tables upstairs and all the flower shop along king street Pucks Ally. Im sure things have changed there alot. Saina ma'ase' & Mahalo
I saw Bone at 50th state fair and it was so crazy everyone pressed against the stage and it started collapsing. They yelled “security sucks” and ran to their limo to escape the onslaught
@movingtohawaii At the concert I went to, I was between the stage and the crowd. After the show, they jumped down and were shaking people hands. I watched one of the members get their bracelet snatched off his wrist. They said "oh well" and kept going. They didn't make a scene about it.
I lived on the western edge of Kalihi kai in the 1940's and near the mouth of Kalihi Stream in the 1930's. It was all countryside back them. My home was always next to a railroad track.
Lots of Korean establishments there, even more back in day before Sam Sung Plaza became The Park on Keeamoku. Back then, Keeaumoku was dubbed "Koreamoku" (community was concentrated there.) I lived near here a decade ago. I enter Ala Moana via Makaloa, Atkinson or Keeaumoku, depending on where I'm walking from.
lol yes born and raised townie, and I call it Alas and Waiks...middle of 'town' for me would be from Chinatown to Waikiki...IMO...I always enter Alas from Keeamoku/Kona street side, go to Lupicia teas, get samples at Big Island candies, get some lunch at Makai market, check out the center stage entertainment, go up the escalator, go past the Koi fish and go to Macy's to shop. After shopping, go to The Lanai for some Brug, some boba, walk all the way down to Longs and then go home. Love all these town kine videos, I'm homesick!
You're so welcome. Stay tuned for more content about walkable places to live in Hawaii. If you can't wait for the next video and have specific questions feel free to reach out to us.
@@movingtohawaii you guys both know me! I’m originally from Mililani but lived in town majority of my adult life! Just got a new place Sky Ala Moana 33rd floor! Come visit anytime! Love u both and you always do a great job!
FYI....Back in da Day...Million Korean restaurant was Flamingo Chuckwagon. IMO....Downtown K-town was acoss from Keeaumoku/Sam's Club, going Diamond Head towards Kaheka til right around Don Quijote...
I like entering the mall from Atkinson so I can take the ramp up to roof parking in between 85 degrees cafe (yum!) & Target… best spot! Nice bathroom up the escalators from 85 and Barnes & Noble below 85 too… ahahaha I love that mall 🖤
For me, was Always "Ala Moana" & Ke'eaumoku was the Center of Town. If you guys remember Tower Records/Likelike Drive-in, Gotta remember KGMB/ch9....right where CVS is/was..... ...Being that i ALWAYS rode Da Bus, would always orient myself w/Sears/Zippys(mauka on Piikoi)Center Stage & Barnes & Noble. Now, it's Bloomingdale's, Macy's & Foodland....
@@movingtohawaii ...Since hardly Ever go Downtown nowadays, last time went Keeaumoku/AMSC-side, Not really noticed if that was still Walgreens/CVS or AutoSource!-lol
You two are an awesome pair. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Informative and entertaining. 👍🏼 As a kid coming in with mom in the 60s, early 70s, I think we came down Keeamoku and went out on Piikoi. Now I’m riding in with my daughter who lives on Kinau so she does Ward to Kapiolani. And/or my son, in from Mililani. 👍🏼🚙 Being a visitor has some advantages. Haven’t rented a car since their college days (they’re in their mid forties). 😜🌴❤️ I look forward to your next video. 🤗🌺
Mahalo for yet another great video...Once again my heart is made happier just seeing my beloved city again...I miss the smell of the island, I know that might sound weird to those who have never experienced the islands many flowers and trade winds , but for others they know exactly what I mean...
In my opinion, Ala Moana is the better neighborhood. Costco Iwilei is Kalihi and that’s a more rough area. Now if you were talking Costco in Hawaii Kai, that’s better than Ala Moana area if you want a single family home neighborhood.
Ward is my jam that was my hub we're an experiencing what Hawaii had to offer it was my strategic Outpost you sold me on telling me that Hawaii had really good transportation I started reading the award on the side of the bus
@moving hawaii when I was visiting. The Bus was was delayed 10-30 minutes during my entire stay in that area. Is there a staff shortage or budget cuts for The Bus System? The bus system is still good but pre covid, taking the bus was always consistent and on on time.
I 'm not in the market for housing, but I just love to watch your videos of the different neighborhoods. Town is getting more & more crowded every day, it doesn't matter when, there is always traffic. All you see nowadays are construction cranes building more & more condos, traffic will just get worse and worse(rail should have been built in town first). Local people can't afford buying the new condos in town, so why do they keep building so many?. The homeless situation(& other criminal activity) in town is so bad now, that you don't feel safe walking around town even during the daytime by yourself(especially if you are Kupuna).
There used to be regulation put in place to limit the height of buildings because recent (1980s) buildings started changing the weather patterns. Is that still limited or has that regulation dropped?
There’s been a 400 foot height limit in Honolulu for over 50 years. The problem is that this means we have scores of buildings that are all the same maximum height and the skyline looks monotonous. We need a few taller structures for visual reasons.
When I was growing up in town, we use to go ala's to catch the bus to Sandy's...
Used to work at the Tower Records off Keeaumoku. Those were the days!
A lot of direct energy from this video, laser focus by Oprah

“Million’s” - ha! For me it will always be Flamingo, because I’m old.
Mahe's comment about Target is so true! Even here in LA, if there's a Target around, you feel "safe."

That and the Michael Jackson concert were some of the Aloha Stadium's highlights.

Gotta enter from Atkinson 💯 drive up the ramp 3rd floor go up the escalator hit the Target parking lot 🎤 🤯
That's the one! Hard part is finding the prime shaded spot that is free of urine

05 Tundra: runs good, needs paint.
Those Toyota's run forever and have the best after market support
Just the convenience of all the good food /restaurants and shopping within walking distance is enough to seriously consider living in town.

I drive a Honda Civic 😂 It’s very stereotypical being that I’m Asian, but have no car payment and I’m saving so much money on gas lol
Always (almost always) enter Ala Moana Center from Keeaumoku! Someday when I can afford 1350 Ala Moana I will enter from Piikoi.

There aren’t many - or any - places to live near the Iwilei Costco.
@@hebneh is oahu housing and job market very competitive? I have a feeling once you buy a home, finding any type of job including retail is hard.

Drive a Bentley GTC & Nissan Skyline
@moving Hawaii I like that area. 24hr Fitness near by. Any spots to see the sunrise/sunset around the city?
I was deeply thinking moving to Oahu but doesn’t feel right after Maui . Are you finding this to be true for most ..
There used to be regulation put in place to limit the height of buildings because recent (1980s) buildings started changing the weather patterns. Is that still limited or has that regulation dropped?
I think that's gone. I heard they're trying to get rid of/change buildings below 9 floors because, progress.

We drive a new Range Rover sport blacked out my 22 model, black Ve Commodore , Silver HSV and we also have a well known blown Show Car :)
Waikiki we use to say in the 80s it was like LA in the middle of the ocean now what do they call it Japan
