I appreciate that this video was done straight through, without any cuts. Makes me think I could possibly rewire my own lamp in 15 minutes! I got a beautiful stained glass pendant lamp secondhand and my project for this Saturday will be to get it hung. Thanks!
You can absolutely do this! I hope it turns out out great. 💕
My husband loves to rewire lamps. One tip from him: he takes electrical tape to wrap the new cord to the bottom of the old cord. Pulls it out through the top bringing the new cord with it. Nifty little lesson. When selling old lamps with iffy electrical, I snip the plug off. Not cost effective for me at the price I sell lamps.
😲 Clever! Thank your husband for the tip! I don’t usually pay that much. I pick up lamp kits whenever I see them at garage sales or thrift stores. They’re around $2.
makes total sense! I'm going to try this
OMG, that is so easy! Why the heck were we so intimidated by that??? Thank you so much for teaching us, you're the best!!!
You’re so welcome!
Love your sense of humor
Thank you. I’m sure I love yours too! 😂
I was in need of new lamps. ( I bought mine new , like 30 some yrs ago. After pricing lamps, I decided to just rewire both of my crystal lamps. My husband checked my work, and it went well. But I am not crazy about messing with electrical either.,, or plumbing! Good job!
Thank you! I’m not a fan either. I really don’t like the feel of the wires on my fingers. I’ve tried to wear gloves but them I don’t have the dexterity.
New sub! Same lamp I need to replace the cord on too 🤦♀️
Welcome! You can do it. I promise.
Thanks, I have a lamp I need to do. Hopefully I can get to it soon.
You can do it!
Oh my gosh! I have a 1950s Sputnik style lamp (many parts) that I've refurbished now I can't get it back together correctly lol🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Oh no! Some of them are so tricky. I’m just sick about your lamp! 😔
Question, I bought an older lamp at goodwill and it has an old plug that is unpolarized. I heard those are dangerous, is that true?
I’m not an electrician so I can’t speak to that. I always rewire the old ones. I just think it’s safer. I would hate to burn my house down (or someone else’s)
Very awesome tutorial! Question would it be cheaper to purchase the items separately than in the kit? 2nd question does it matter what wire you attach to the screws? 3rd question if you purchased items separately would you have to add a plug at the one end? I'm assuming yes and is that as easy as this was? I'm always afraid that I'm going to get the wires crossed and electrocute myself or someone else 😜😂😜 Thanks so much for making this video. I'll hold on to my next request for a few weeks don't want to bombard you with tutorial requests😂😂😂
You can but the cord with the plug a lot cheaper. Usually I use the socket that’s on it unless it look really damaged. You can get everything cheaper if you go to a large hardware store like lowes or Home Depot. I was in a hurry and spent too much. Not it doesn’t Mayer which wire goes to which on a basic lamp.
@@JunkinwithStacy thank you. I'm excited to give this a try on my many lamps that I have been collecting 🤭
Morning! Oooohhhhhh a LIGHT!!! *quick tip- no rod, use a dry erase marker to number the pieces if there's no rod to send wires through...rubbing alcohol will remove permanent marker * watch those bottom knot cords, my mom had a marble bottomed lamp with an old cord knotted on the bottom and for a couple days we could smell something plastic burning but didn't see any smoke or anything. Couldn't find it. Anyway mom was dusting the next day and picked up the lamp- small gooey danger (no fire, but the insulation had melted) ensues and mom rewires EVERYTHING in the house. Anything older than 10 years was redone. Not the biggest deal, but there was some pushback from some antique sellers we knew. I get the want for authenticity, but ill take a lack of fire over authenticity any day.
Good tip about marking the pieces before you cut it apart. It’s always better not to catch fire.
