Cement tiles are prone to carbonation due to the effects of carbon dioxide and water in the atmosphere, which forms a very weak acid called carbonize acid. This extracts the cement roof from the surface of the tiles and produces a weak, friable surface layer. The effect becomes more severe as the tiles age on a roof. Clay tiles do not have this problem, but tend to be highly porous. This can lead to poor painting film curing.

Hi thanks for watching👋 The old pointing wasn't taken off as there was need, it was in good condition, we just cleaned it, and applied new pointing on top of old one, as per client's request. It took me about 3 days all up.
Hey, how did you get one doing the edges of the tiles closest to the gutter? looks like the spray got on top of the edge tiles but maybe not the very edge bit that is vertical?
It went on the very edge of the tiles, as you might be aware the gun must be held at a 45 degrees angles to get and paint the edge and the underneath of tile, which means maximum paint coverage.

Nice work, what tip size you using and how many litres did that roof take?
Tip size is 521 for sealer and 621 for membrane. The pressure is 2500psi.30 Lita's seller and 60L of Roof Membrane Paint as a top coat, Thanks for watching.

When doing pointing must grind capping tile edge so you get a good key in to surface or new pointing will crack off at top edge letting moisture in.
You MUST re poke weep holes down bottom or water cannot drain out... and water in roof years down the track.
Try not to respray neighbours outdoor furniture and cars lol.
Hi Colin, thanks for watching...There was no pointing on edge of the tile anyhow, it was just pressured cleaned and ready to go. Closely have a look at the video again and you will see that the weep holes have been re poked, and rain water can nicely drain out. Overspray?? No one came complaining to me in regards to any over spray on cars or furniture, and once again on closer look at the video the areas where there could have been potential overspray were protected. I hope this clarifies the video....Cheers!

Your taking big risks having your back to the edge, your too close also to edges also.
I have all my tickets and it’s a matter of when....not if... that you will fall if you keep this up.
Everyone have serous respect for what will happen if you fall.

Thanks for the safety advice, but I had the safety harness on and the rubber/ non slip shoes. Safety is very important mate!
@@samcopaintinganddecorating where do you anchor the harness into? Is it hard to put that anchor in?
Im a roof tiler by trade and the first thing im going to say is your trowel work with the pointing is very bad and the second thing im going to say is you need to be a licensed roof tiler to do any repair work on a tiled roof and that includes bedding and pointing and changing tiles but!! I will say your painting skills are spot on but be careful repairing people's houses/roofs if your not licensed for the job cause it can come back to bite you hard if fair trading does an audit on you after something goes wrong.
So if you are a roof tiler and you are that good why don't you post a video and show us all how it's done 🙂🙂
@@samcopaintinganddecorating 😆 Maybe I should so home owners know the difference between someone thats not trained to someone that is lol truthfully everything ive seen you do when it comes to painting is awesome but the trowel work needs some perfecting lol my advice to you is pay a licensed roof tiler to do the repair stuff for you like alot roof restoration companies are now doing and then just come along afterwards once they're done and paint it.

@@samcopaintinganddecorating yeah its not rocket science but instead its an art and youre doing it all wrong. Why do you think roof tiling is a trade that takes 4yrs to complete? Why is it a licensed trade? If you think anyone can do it go to reputable roof tiling company and show them how you apply your pointing lol I bet they will tell you its terrible.
