    Hi Rob, I am restoring a sister car to yours in Australia, rhd of course. My car was in similar condition to yours when I found it in a shed. I took the body off and that made the restoration so much easier. Enjoyed your video, Keep em coming.

      @@davideakins4806 thanks so much! That's awesome, is it the same color? I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull the body off but it may come to that.

    Hi Rob looking at those coolant passages I would probably do a compression check on all cylinders before bolting freshly rebuilt carburetors back on.

    • @BeeWildered
      @BeeWildered  4 місяці тому

      I think you're right, a compression test needs to be done.

    The S2 gained 'ears' to provide air intakes and exhausts to help remove heat from the engine bay and feed cool air to the carbs. At the very least, you should put an airbox and cold air pipe back on. I do have a digital copy of the parts and workshop manuals if you need them.

      Awesome, now I just need to find an air box 🤔.

    US Esprit 907s had a 5 hp loss from the lower 8.4 compression ratio, and a large 15 hp loss using the lower cfm 175 CDS-T Zenith Stromberg carbs. The individual carb flows 220 cfm for CD 175'S (1-3/4" carb). If you make your own CNC aluminum 1-7/8" dash pot with a custom seal like the Australian turbos from Normal Air Garrett used from 1981 to 1995, you can gain 25 cfm from each carb, enough to restore and match the European 160 hp with a 9.5:1 compression upgrade. Z~S are easy to calibrate and tune, if you have the right equipment

    I think some of your hoses are for the smog equipment which the California cars had - the zeniths also restrict the power quite a bit compared to Euro spec dellortos. They also have a different manifold etc.

      I want to keep it as original as possible but might just swap out those carbs later as budget permits.

    Hi Rob great car, really hope 1. you have FUN. 2. The project doesn't take too long. You are restoring the car so this is going to happen at some point, so, why not replace the gas struts now? you don't have to buy them from Lotus so it wouldn't be an expensive fix early on.

      @@BeeWildered SGS engineering in the UK can provide you with replacement struts. A (single) gas strut was an option for the front compartment on the S3 (so it will fit an sS1/2) and prevents damage caused by forgetting to operate the prop release. I've bought struts from them for both my Excels and my Esprit S3.

      That's good to know, thanks! I ended up purchasing some new struts from an online company here in the US, they work but don't allow the back hatch to close correctly.
