I also like JD Gentleman Jack, WT 101 and Knob Creek 9 Bourbons
This bourbon secretly goes on sale around my area, but most places price it at almost 40 dollars. At the regular retail price, it has a lot of competition and you would rate it at around a score of 6. If the bourbon drops well below 20 bucks, then there's nothing around that can touch it in terms of quality and the character profile of the drink and the score should jump to almost an 8. It's definitely more of a drink you should drink neat, but from what I understand, this product is a standard the distillery sells which means its at that border for mixing or drinking it neat.
I really like this small batch 1792. Good stuff!
Never know what kind of batch are going to get but I think this thing is great value. Value deserves WAY more than a point. One of the great spicy dailies.

Have to say this was a very helpful review gentlemen, the 1792 Small Batch has been on my radar but one person says it sucks and another it's the best thing since slice bread, your heated but logical discussion has helped me finally pull the trigger and give it a try. It's trash! It taste like raw whiskey with woodchips added. Just go look up the reviews. I have been buying different whiskey to try. I have instant regret . It's not good

Is the bottle made of Irish crystal? Waterford? + juice inside for $25 bucks ...Wow!
I like this whiskey for fat washing with smoked bacon for maple bacon old fashioneds.
Finally pulled the trigger on a bottle of small batch. Wow, nose is all over the place! I don't get anything any of you are nosing haha...I get a boatload of maple syrup and vanilla. Love the 1792.

The third guy is right, this is not a harsh spice bourbon lol. This is a very sweet and woody bourbon. It's funny that they debate what the fruit flavor is though because I find it hard to define too. I lean towards apple or faintly cherry.
I just finished my bottle of 1792 and while I like it, I picked up some Elijah Craig Small Batch this time. Lately that has been hitting the spot for me and it runs the same price. I will have try these two blind before I can say for sure which I prefer.

It's ironic that you mentioned both 1792 SB and Elijah Craig SB since these are my two go-to every day sipper type bourbons. I have other higher end stuff as well, but I conserve those a bit more due to price. But for a dumb reach on a more consistent basis these are my current two.
This one is the definition of a 1 for value. Agreed. What would folks rate the value of the full proof offering? Is it proportionally as delicious with the amount more expensive?

The mash bill I've seen on most review sites recently is 75 corn / 15 rye / 10 malted barley for descriptions of the Small Batch and Single Barrel versions. I actually bought both at the same time a couple of months ago, right around the time when you did this review so they might've been the same batch. I was disappointed with the Small Batch, I thought it tasted hotter than it should from the alcohol or oak, and wasn't very complex. Cherry oak is the dominant profile for me with a small hint of artificial banana. I agree with Dutch and Jules, the nose was too much burn and that factored into the taste heavily.
On the other hand, the Single Barrel was multitudes better with mellower oak on the palate and bigger fruit cake and artificial banana notes. I'd love to see a review of it soon! Although who knows what barrel you will get since they are one of many distilleries that do not print the barrel # or year on the bottle. When you see an affordable brand like Evan Williams Single Barrel print the exact dates for casking and bottling, it makes you wonder why these other companies don't do it.
Enjoyed all the heated discussions. I guess the Full proof and Sweet Wheat would be interesting! Thanks.

Great review fellas! I recently grabbed a 1792 full proof but haven’t cracked it. Sounds like a good pour for the money but I am a fan of OGD Bonded and WT 101 for a similar price. Grabbing something new to drink is always interesting! Cheers! 🥃👍

I'm not as experienced as you guys are with bourbon tasting yet, but for the value, I think this is a great pick. Just killed my first bottle of it and will probably pick up another soon- or try to find the full proof or single barrel variations of it if I can. Cheers!

We get a lot of 1792 store picks in my area. They are much better than the standard offering and usually for the same price.

I have always wanted to grab a bottle of this but the price here is more than regular Blantons so I usually grab that instead.

The small batch, like many bourbons is under proofed and feels lacking.

Interesting you guys picked up so much spice. All I got was sweetness in my bottle. It was actually too sweet. I didn't really enjoy it. The Full Proof store pick that I have is much more my speed.
That $25 whisky costs $88 over here in Oz. Damn I hate import duty.
I just got a bottle for $34.19 including taxes in Chicago. I agree, the complexity changes with every sip, it's kinda hard to nail down the flavor profile. The aroma is nice and fruity. I would say its worth the price, you won't be bummed. It does pack a hella punch for sure! Its not my absolute fav. I'm still looking for my absolute fav, I will find you one day my friend!

You have to do a taste test of Cassius Clay. It's my favorite bourbon right now! It's really good! I just found you guys and I'm addicted!!
Weird that Barton 1792 would go with 93.152525 proof or whatever, instead of going for the obvious 92 proof to fit their brand.

1792 is one of bourbon distillery I just can't get on to. Had their small batch, full proof and sweet wheat. Did not like any of them.
Absolutely hate the 1792 small batch. Much prefer Elijah Craig or 4 roses small batch in that price point. You guys should try wild turkey rare breed barrel proof. Its 116 proof, 40 bucks and wonderfully flavored
Four Roses huh? I think I’ve heard others state that as well. I’m thinking that will be my next Bourbon purchase along with some Single Malt Scotch.
1792 Full Proof is SO tasty!!
I was hoping you’d get to this bourbon. It’s my all time least favorite, I found it to taste overly hot for the proof like a dodgy bottom shelfer you could swear was half rubbing alcohol. The nose had a rich and heavy scent of wet dog and the finish made me wish that it was forgettable but that essence of bile lingers in my mind. To Sazeracs credit they were wonderful about refunding the bottle which I genuinely thought was contaminated. They did lab tests and told me that it was within their batch to batch tolerance range. Glad you all had a better experience but thank you Jules for keeping the score reasonable.

Does Ben know what "astute" means? Every time he addresses us, the viewers, he uses "astute viewers", then proceeds to tell us something. If we were astute, we'd already know that's bullying. You wouldn't have to tell us.

How is him "telling us something" contradicting use of the term "astute"? Being astute basically means that you are intelligent enough to figure out the meaning behind what he is saying (or, "telling us")
