Really don't mind the camera at all, its quite nice to actually be able to see the entire playing field!
i'm exactly the same, idk why you would lock the camera to a single position in an auto battler lol
I have a generally fixed default position I return to that is pretty close to the default but during the battle I’ll move it around like beagle, just helps me compartmentalise when I have that default view
I'm one of those people who get motion sickness. I use "auto-zoom" camera mode (forgot its in-game name, it's the second one) because it always keeps all units visible automatically.
So it starts out maxed out, I can see if I'm being flanked and how my flanking is going on. And as the battle progresses camera zooms into the remaining alive units automatically.
36:55 "Enemy tech crushing your lineup? Just say NO! Remember, they cannot use tech without your consent."
excellent Luna co-casting in this one, some very insightful commentary about being let into a closed door
Ironically, it only bothers me when you move the camera, while you're also talking about moving the camera. Closest analogue is being told that I'm breathing manually
I knew this would happen, and I apologise for bringing your attention to it
Great, now I'm aware I'm breathing
@@MagneticFerretjust think about how your tongue feels sitting in your mouth instead. Or, like, think about blinking manually
@@Barely_Edited Oddly enough, the tongue thing? Thats fine. The blinking? Somehow out of sync
"Like a house of cards, checkmate" classic Beags
those domino pieces do be like that
I enjoy when you move the camera around, in normal play I tend to zoom out to watch everything but since you are commentating the gameplay I like the camera movement :)
I think the reason you were able to beat that one shielded Melting Point on the flank without EMP was because it was still stuck in the smoke for the majority of the round, and was just sitting there and dying off screen while the Phoenixes killed it from range.
"Fang Infantry made me the man I am today" lol
Moving the camera around is fine! Major balls in game 3 against the MPs
Man, it's a joy to behold your strategic prowess in this more-so-than-XCOM RTS format. Your ability to adapt and anticipate is impressive.
I too love fangs just because they kinda look like marines from SC (tiny guys with no durability but surprising dps for their size) but I agree that in a well rounded comp they don't do much mid-rounds onwards as they suffer similar issues to mustangs but are not as good as mustangs (i.e. anytime I put down fangs in the midgame I should have just used a mustang). I could be wrong, just my speculation and read on the unit, but it just feels that way.
The main thing about fangs for mid-late game for me is the ignite ability. It punches and ignites armored units and does more damage against enemies with high hp, since ignite burns a pure 6% of hp every second. Mustangs can easily be completely distracted with a squad of armored sledges/arcs. This is my defense of fangs, since I sometimes use them as human shield swarms for my fortresses. Works great when the enemy tries to counter giants with MPs
Fangs just don't have good DPS for their cost like Starcraft marines though - they still have a role in the game, but they're just not as versatile as they seem like they should be. The main thing they're good at is soaking single-target damage, and otherwise being something cheap that shoots air when you have nothing else that can early on. Mustangs also fill the anti-air role but cost twice as much per squad while being about twice as effective and so past the first few rounds it's more efficient to deploy them instead.
@@jeffthepilot2894 i did not know they can do that, still might not be enough dps to justify buying more fangs mid-rounds (not sure, just a gut feeling, 6% burn/sec is peanuts compared to laser or sniper) but that surely makes early fangs more scary.
@@xeroprotagonist Fangs have good DPS *for their cost,* though, and you can Elite recruit them to essentially get twice as much value for twice the cost.
As in, Mustangs output (12*37/0.4) = 1110 DPS for 200 gold, but Fangs output (18*54/1.5) = 648 DPS for 100 gold. If you recruit 2 Fangs for every Mustang, or Elite Recruit 1 Fang for every Mustang (cost of 200 gold on average per Elite Fang when you recruit 2 or Mass Recruit 3, since [150*2+100]/2 = 200 and [150*3+100+50]/3 = 200), that's 1296 DPS for 200 gold - about 16% more.
Admittedly Fangs have lots of other weaknesses, like:
* Running at half the speed of Mustangs (sometimes a good thing, but usually a bad thing, particularly when your opponent has Stormcallers);
* Dying much *much* harder to AoE splash damage, napalm, and acid;
* Having less range (80m vs 95m base, compounds particularly badly with Fangs being slow and having to close the range gap against everything at their pathetic speed);
* And dealing less damage if they survive to the end of the round (leveled up units don't deal more damage, units always deal their base cost in damage, so a Level 2 Fang only deals 100 damage while a Level 1 Mustang gets to deal 200)
Now that I'm thinking about it, honestly Fangs don't have a lot of reasons to use them compared to just using Mustangs.
* Fangs aren't quite as heavily countered by the Armor Enhancement tech (51 damage per attack for every level, compared to 37 for Mustangs and -60 per level per attack for Armor Enhancement, so a Level 3 Fang can damage a Level 2 Armored Arclight that a Level 3 Mustang can't even scratch)... but almost everything that can get the Armor Enhancement tech has AoE splash damage and absolutely massacres Fangs.
* Fangs can get Ignite & Portable Shield to really open up their utility... but Mustangs can get Aerial Specialization & Missile Interception (not a good skill in general, nor one you should combo with any other skill... but cost-effective if you're only using your Mustangs as anti-missile guardians, and accept that they won't be capable of doing anything else).
* Fangs can also serve as the damage sponge role against "anti-big unit" units like Marksmen, Phoenixes, Steel Balls, & Melting Points... but Crawlers are usually better, they get more models for the same cost (24 instead of 18 models), and Fangs dying on the frontlines are Fangs that can't survive long enough to actually shoot at anything and take on the role of a Mustang. There's no "serving two roles at once" possibility for Fangs that would allow them to double dip on value.
* Basically the only thing I can think of is the very specialized scenario of your opponent covering their flanks with a missile and nothing else. In that case, you can pop Personal Shields on your Fangs and send them to the flanks to facetank 1 missile shot, then advance to the towers. That's not something you can do with Mustangs... though Wasps with Energy Shield & Jump Drive might be better for the role, since you can redeploy them afterwards instead of leaving them stuck on the flanks to die next turn (though Wasps are more expensive).
Honestly, I guess Fangs are pretty weak. The only reason to use Fangs instead of Mustangs to actually shoot at things, past the first few rounds, is if you're running Elite Specialist and don't get the choice between Level 2 Fangs & Level 1 Mustangs. That's hardly a ringing endorsement. I guess Fangs do need a slight buff, like reducing the cost of their upgrades or replacing AP Bullets with Elite Marksmen, or something.
(Though Fangs do form an interesting contrast to Crawlers when it comes to being a damage sponge, even if they can't compete in the DPS role compared to Mustangs... if your opponent runs something like a Steel Ball frontline with Vulcans or Arclights behind to cover them, Crawlers would charge in to melee the Steel Balls and get roasted by the enemy backline. But Fangs would hang back and try to shoot at the Steel Balls, forcing the enemy backline to slowly waddle up while the Steel Balls get stuck on the Fangs.)
@@jonghyeonlee5877 Fangs only have a slight DPS advantage for their cost against Mustangs, and that is the *only* non-AoE unit they have a DPS/cost advantage over - that's not good DPS per cost, they are the second worst. They have about a quarter the squad DPS of Crawlers for the same cost. Starcraft marines IIRC have more raw DPS per cost than any other Terran unit, especially when stimmed, they're just vulnerable to being countered by AoE and armor. Fangs also get countered harshly by AoE and armor in the same way in Mechabellum but don't compensate for that with high DPS like one would expect if you think of them as being like marines. You can spam marines and get to grandmaster rank in SC2 but spamming only Fangs will not win you games in Mechabellum even against beginners.
I think the upgrades you can get for them give them a lot of utility like you said though - 2 units of Fangs with Portable Shield takes 72 Phoenix/Marksman hits to destroy vs a squad of Mustangs taking only 12 for the same cost, even 2 squads of Crawlers will only take 48 hits, and Ignite makes them useful even against giants. Especially Melting Points, which are pretty awkward to counter otherwise. And their slow speed and 80 range means they can stay in formation under barriers with giant units (especially Fortresses) and tank single-target damage for them when the barrier falls, while Crawlers will always rush forward outside the barrier into melee. So in the right circumstances they can have kind of insane damage sponge potential. Now that I think about it, the other time they really shine compared to other units is countering mass Jump Drive air units, especially Phoenixes - you can cover every approach with squads of Fangs more cheaply and easily than with Mustangs, and Fangs will tank a bunch of Phoenixes shooting at them better.
yo i just wanted to say, i only wanted to check out this game as I saw it on steam but ended up watching your videos all day!
super fun to watch and will probably end up picking it up from watching this thanks!
this was a certified Bibiche moment
Nice video, thanks!
Regarding the camera, I'd prefer a static angle that shows as much of the battlefield as possible. With the camera moving around and zooming in I usually feel I'm missing a lot of the action that's not currently in the view.
And with it being a video, it's great to be able to rewind it a bit back and rewatch paying attention to the other side of the battlefield. But this really works only if the whole battlefield is in the view.
Wow, who knew you could get such good hacker cards
Hey Beags, I've been trying out the arcjets concept and found a nice addition to the flanking force: Rhino or Steel Balls. If the enemy adds too many marksmen and their own midline arc lights a Rhino with wreckage salvage can help punch through that for 400 and only 1 unit buy. A shielded Vulcan is very good at countering our flanking force cause the chaff die to it fast and the arclights and Pheonix get stuck on it too long so the steel balls provide a fast moving threat able to quickly take down the Vulcan.
Unironically, hackers can be strong against the flank, as a way to steal our arc to turn on our chaff. I don't know if its cost efficient, but it is quite annoying.
Edit: You were talking about exposed flank and not wanting to put down the fang arc, I prefer the Arcjet, pheonix is fast enough to snipe the tower and arclight warps in first meaning on the contested rounds it doesn't have to warp in and can go to work instantly.
moving the camera isn't required to understand the entire battlefield, but getting different perspectives on the same thing helps me comprehend it.
Just found this channel. This guy is HILARIOUS! great vids
Ace combat OST is a nice surprise!
Maybe chaos.intangible had a good time, but after all that tech amounted to nothing they might've been dancing mad.
Since you asked, I'm happy with the camera movement. It helps me see more things, especially if I watch the video at regular speed
Camera not a problem the anxiety you're giving me from how little time you give yourself to deploy is.
Melting Points look so cool.
EA voice: Bibiche. It's in the game
Not to distract from the show here, but will you be putting your Jagged Alliance 3 playthrough on this channel? I don't want it getting lost.
That first guy I'm pretty sure is one of the ones that are always vocal against Storms and are for some reason proud to either throw or just leave when fighting someone that starts with them because "It's a boring noob match".
Haha what? People like that exist?
Don't mind the camera, don't worry about it
beagle, i hope you understand when i tell you.
I love cats
My favorite Overlord is one with Mothership, Hyperdrive, and Tank Production. Those are beasts. For me, Melting Point was the unit i couldn't beat at the beginning. But my favorite specialist is Giant Specialist. So that makes sense.
My go to EMP are either Marksmen or Sledges(extended range helps too). super heavy tech on big things get the Marksmen who just shut down whatever they're trying to pull and if it's something on the frontline that's getting out of hand, e.g. balls/Arcs/Rhinos, they get Sledges. Works well if the balls are their very frontline because it slows them down heaps as well as disabling health sharing/absorbtion and armor if they're gone that way.
I like you going around because it gives the best view of the battle
mecha ball 'em
Get it together, Luna!
MEOW!
I do enjoy cat noises.
Frank Klepacki is such a baller
so the math is if he gets the loan each round; round one you get 400 vs your 200. round 2 he gets 300 you get 400. round 3 he gets 450 and you get 550 at this point you both have gained a total off; 1150 Resources. In round 4 he has 700 and you 800 and at this point forward you are ahead. also this forces him into taking that loan EACH round or else he loses. This tactic basicly forces you to win big and hard from the start, and steamroll your opponent.
You get 200 from loan and lose 300 the next round so you lose 100 every time
If you loan every round, as you identify, it’s even on round 3 (gain 200 to offset the 100 cumulative loss from rounds 1 and 2) but you’re behind 300 total r4 and then you never catch up again
Loan r1 means you have to win really really fast, or basically skip r2
Personally, I think camera movement is fine (and probably even preferable to static camera, as it also highlights where you're focusing your attention). What bothers me personally a bit are the micro-cuts (e.g. at 29:13), but I don't think anyone else noticed :)
Are you going to continue the Live and Impossible campaign?
Try out the auto/cinematic cam? It can zoom out much further than what you can do just to get all the fighting into one screen.
Beagle! Two new units! They both look really sweet! I hope you at least cast some games if you don't feel like playing.
I've still not seen you use some of these units, like the Melting Point. The icon makes it seem like a turret of some sort?
Melting point appears in match 3. It’s a giant laser
You controlling the camera is better than the autocamera or having a static view
giant specialist doesn't pay to unlock giants?
Isn't splitbeam a bit of a nonbo with healing? Like, the overall damage gets reduced with splitbeam, right?
Nice i have a cat name Luna too.
first game felt like a misclick, second game felt like a "real life demanded attention" thing
I don't hate the camera move but I prefer the cinematic view of the fight.
If they had placed the MP's well it would have worked a lot better, as you say they need to be supported and they placed their slowest units way at the back.
cat videos or riot
I think you need to flank with the phoenix first to bait out the mustangs and then place the arclight
Not getting sick myself (except when you intentionally fuck with the camera), through it is the same as with car sickness, you are fine because you controll it and expect the movement, other people are not, especially with fast jerky movement.
Personally I prevere the automatic cam as even with my 40% eyesight I can clearly see what is going on where I focus on, even with flanks on all sides.
I wouldn't say stop moving the camera around - videos where you just don't get a good view of what's going on are much worse - but since I tend to put these on in the background and drop in and out, it can make it a bit harder to read the state of the game.
also, funny coincidence. your cat's name is luna, my newborn daughter's name is luna
and your name is kat...
smoke won you round 7 in the last game, kept those melty from targeting the phoenix long enough
It does make it a little harder to understand the battle field and the positioning of units
I'm legally blind and don't care for flipping orientation true to angle, but i'm also not against it, so you do you. I enjoy your tactics. Suggestion wouldhave been use your second crawler to double flank.
Make more videos.... ooooo.... this is the ghost of Mechabellum viewership past....
Pleeeeaaase man I need to know. Why won't u use the intensive training enhance module combo????? Plz try it once pplzzzzz
i like enhance module i just usually like other stuff more
@@Beaglerush iv seen u pass it for 50 bucks
Could u try the combo my dude?
i have never seen multi-target Meltys work. i think it's just a terrible upgrade, there are so many better ways to deal with crowds. The whole Point of the Melty is the single target damage...
Please keep moving the camera. I find keeping it still boring.
Camera is fine. As someone who doesn't get motion sick, but gets VERY annoyed by obnoxious camera movement, I think it's extremely tolerable as you often get angles that I myself would want.
Just my own very personal take.
Rapid Resupply is a net cost of 100 supplies, but can really help if you're just barely short, and don't expect the game to go on much longer.
It can! Where it definitely doesn't help is where someone uses it and then doesn't buy anything that round.
@@Beaglerush well, if its a really fast game you can net your self some supplies if you keep going into debt and just face plant into the spiral.
- +200 [net: +200]
- -100 (-300 +200) [net: +100]
- -100 [net: 0] (if the battle ended here you would not feel the -300 next round)
Maybe they were genuinely trying for a cheesy turn 3 kill as the only reasonable explaination, similar to zerg rush (except they did not go into further debt so it is just a net -100 so maybe they forgot, IDK).
debt is always a net -100 profit when the next round comes along. it never ever stacks if you don't use it so it was super weird that this person did it and then didnt use it. however if you do it like you said then yeah that turn 3 6pool could be legit i guess??
I do agree in principle that it is net -100 in theory but I do want to point out for people reading this that is only true if the game goes on and there is a "next round" which might not always be the case. If I went to debt on round 5 I am on a +200 -0 form debt, if on round 6 I go to debt again and end the game there I am +400 and -300 from debt (hence net +100 because I don't end up paying -300 on the next round). This is also true on my round 7 but the equation flips and I start loosing -100 net if this spiral goes on past 3 debt rounds in a row. So you can net positive or neutral with debt spiral as long as you don't spiral down further than 3 rounds (which is why I like trying this cheese for round 2 or 3 since allot of my games end round 6).
I'd slow your camera speed if anything, go like half your expected speed, it is a bit jarring. Most RTS you don't expect camera to change. The major cause is the swivel rather than moving.
This isn't RTS games? Kinda boring just watch both sides fighting each others. They should make a RTS from this games. If not those assets just wasted.
i dunno y i just hate watching u play but youtube wants me to. cause 2 other creators i watcfh play and they are not as much a mess of talk like u are and wow
Who are we to argue with what the algorithim wants?
