I've been using the Anyone version as my base station for awhile. Has a great screen, easy to program, does everything you could ask. It does have a minimal parasitic power draw when off, so unplug it from your battery after every use.
Agreed. I have the AnyTone version. Programmed with the cable. Even has Amsat freqs & the ISS repeater on it. Very nice. Goes mobile & sits on the bench easy enough too.
I got my RT95 from the Retekess store on Lazada Philippines which( along with Shopee) is our version of Amazon. I like it! From first power-on through programming it in CHIRP to being up and running took maybe 30 minutes. The menus and functions are fairly intuitive, much more so than my FT-60R. It took another couple of hours tp find out how to get to the screen that let me enable scanning (so slow, but I only have 6 repeaters near me so it's OKish) and set the output power. (Short-press the FINC button to get to the second screen. Page 15 of the manual, kind of buried there.) The internal speaker's audio sounds fine, especially after I also enabled the mic's speaker. Sort of a poor man's Aess. No need for an external speaker.
Couldn't find any RT95(s) in stock. I ended up picking up a couple AnyTone AT-778UV II(s). Same price point being about $129 USD on Amazon. Based on this video and the other video where you hook the RT95 up for APRS the AnyTone AT-778 UV II is the same radio just different name on the case. It is a 25watt Mobile Baofeng UV-5R (If you know you know).
Oh I know - this radio is (Retevis RT95, Anytone AT-778UV, CRT Micron, SR-94HPC, Midland DBR2500) - More sweetness to come on the APRS front, just waiting for parts to arrive!
Hey Steve, does that round knob control volume, or is volume control on the mic, or ? I returned a radio to "Radio-Ditty" some time ago b/c it's "round knob" did not adjust volume and it took too many button-presses and made it unsafe for mobile use IMHO...... thanks! 73, K7KS
Aloha Steve! I’m not familiar with this model but I own three other AnyTone radios including the AT5888 UVII and two AT5888 UVIII with 220 mhz. I have a couple of TYT 9000D in 220mhz and another in 2 meters that has those same P1,P2,P3,P4 and P5 buttons and is super easy to manually program, no programming cable needed. Conclusion, this appears to look like two different radio manufacturers working together to produce this radio together. 👍👍👍
@@temporarilyoffline It's probably made by TYT like the Retevis RT85 HT is. I think TYT makes most of the radios for Retevis, Allunce, Cignus (Philippines) etc., just with different brand names on the outside.
Hi, could you maybe please make a video about what the best antenna's you would recommend fot the RT95! And when and why you want to use them?! I would really appreciate it! 😃 Or do you maybe have some recommendations? 😉👍
I did one a very long time ago: ua-cam.com/video/pKUC7GbflCo/v-deo.html The answer might not always be "Spend as much as you can" What is the furthest repeater from you that you need to contact - that you can actually contact with 2m? Then work back from that. Let me know some more details and we'll figure something out. Do you already have a brick chimney, mast or tower at your QTH?
Great bang for buck, I have the Anytone version, quite happy with it actually ! I really like the mic. Looking forward to seeing what you plan to do with it.. I was also thinking of using mine for aprs but not sure how to get started..
Where is link to live stream
If you're on mobile, it won't show: ua-cam.com/users/livehVyKsw9X2MI
@@temporarilyoffline didnt know that. perfect. thanks. loving your content

#ProTip!
Yes it does have power draw when off. Killed my battery a few times before i figured it out. I unplug it now.
One of my ham friends has this radio with a J-pole and it performs great.
Excellent, I'm impressed with it so far

It hits the sweet spot on a couple of points!
I have had this radio in my 4Runner for a while now and it works well. Excited to see what you have in store for it,
Me too

You'll have a lot of fun with it!
I have one of those I would like to put on APRS
I've got a video coming up for you then!
It has a clone, its called Anytone AT 778 UV same lay out , menu, and function buttons, but $200 in Australia
Retevis RT95, Anytone AT-778UV, CRT Micron, SR-94HPC, Midland DBR2500 - This little bugger gets around!
I used a similar radio to make an echo link node for my college radio club. It was a baofeng version of the same radio though
Nice!

How do you program the on/off function into the mic 's buttons.?

The round knob adjusts thr volume, I think you can program the up-down button on the mic to do that also
my retevis rt 95 the uhf output has only 5w for all power levels. can anybody help me?
Is it still under warranty?

This radio is sold from 5 different brands that I know of. It's a good box!

This one is actually made by Anytone - the AT-778uv, Retevis support is better than Anytone's though. @@jaym1301
LOL I did the same thing, only I went with the Btech GMRS-50V2 mobile.
That's a good radio too!

Put it on your tractor and you can mow and radio!
That could be a thing!
Nice radio. Does anyone know what the pinout is for the mike connector? I suspect it's the same as one of the big three.
I have a video coming out that details the Mic connector. The manual is online in PDF format also.
Cable producing audio on both ends... are you going to do digital with it?
Could be...
Always like it when you save me money, thanks
Glad to help

APRS is what's next for this guy! Stay tuned as I go down the APRS rabbit hole.
@@temporarilyoffline Awesome! Looking forward to that !
That's a nice screen for that price point.
Yeah, it's a cool radio. 20w > 10w from my 705¡
Nice Radio! i would like it to have DMR as well, but for that price you won't get it, 73
Exactly!
An AnyTone 778 clone?
I have the Anytone and use it as my base dual band-er. Great radio.
Yep, there are 4-5 different names for this radio. So far it's great.
Cheap as 🍟
What is the big surprise?
You'll have to wait and see 👀
